    It has been five years since the release of the "NVH" app for iOS and the "NVH for Android" app, and they are both going strong. Yes, it is an expensive app, but it also eliminates the guesswork involved in vibration diagnostics. Quit wasting money replacing parts that did not fix the problem and find out what type of vibration you actually have. Additionally, you will find out what type of vibration you do not have.

      For those wondering, it is $99 at the moment (Yes, even 5+ years after release).

    I have an nvh app, in my job it is insanely useful. Previously I had spent customers money and my time balancing shafts and wasting time (very unfortunate) these apps have saved me so much time and money. Fun tip: I've noticed it's very common for tires to shake, regardless or brand or wear. Always watch the wheel/tire on the balancer to visually see it is true, if it's not you will have to measure the out of round. Sometimes a out of round tire and rim can be matched low rim spot to high tire spot, I've had this work many times. This app was used on my 1970 c20, and detected a severely out of balance driveshaft, ironically after I had installed used tires, the driveshaft lost a weld on weight, sent the shaft out thinking it was still tires and sure enough, smooth as silk. Sometimes cars can be tricky, this app helps!

    That's really great how the app tells you if its a first order or second order vibration.
    My butt cant decipher a first or second order vibration unfortunately. Throughout the drive however it may produce a vibration on multiple occasions of various amplitudes.
    Imagine the pain involved in swapping out a ujoint that is assumed to be the problem when it actually needs balanced.
    Very Cool!

    Fantastic app. I bought it for $99 and that’s definitely worth it at that price. Having mechanics guess what might be wrong and replacing unnecessary parts quickly makes this app very worthwhile.

    Met John and his son at a allison transmission function recently and talked to a few of the engineers for allison that are using this app all thing were positive about the app - the cost of the app. I am currently working on and trying to get my shop to purchase the app and a iPad for shop to put it on for the shop to use. From what the allison transmission engineers have said it will be very useful tool. Hope to have it in our shop soon.. and John like watching your videos on here.

    Love the idea of this app , to diagnosis my Audi Quattro and it’s many driveline related shudders . But the reality is I can replace 3 cv shafts for the price of this app and that’s about 50% of the possible issues of the vibration . Wheel Bearings and ball joints pretty easy to diagnose. Tricky stuff is “out of round” rims or small drive line imbalance

      I guess:
      App has signal characteristics of axles. Smart phones have acceleration sensor on its own. You give app prior knowledges about axles and phone records vibration signals. In conclusion app matches prior information and vibration signal. And it makes a prediction.
      This is my estimation.

    I have a question regarding how to manually set up my specific vehicle. It is a medium duty, 6x6 former military vehicle that I’m working finding the cause of a vibration. I assume that I would have to manually enter all the information which is fine, all of that information is available. The vehicle has 2:1 geared hubs and has an effective R&P ratio of 7.80 because of it. Do you recommend setting the axle ratio at the 3.90 with a tire rolling diameter of half the actual diameter or 7.80 with the full rolling diameter? …or would you recommend something completely different?
    Thanks for your time

    Will it diagnose rear end or transfer case vibrations too? I've got a 2005 Dodge 2500 quad cab 4x4 diesel that I bought in 2007 that was hit in the right front hard enough to twist the front axle. I replaced it when I rebuilt the truck and have ran it 80K miles since but have always noticed a harmonics vibration at road speed. When self diagnosing it, I removed the wheels and ran it on my lift, still had it. I removed the front drive shaft, still had it. I removed the rear driveshaft and it ran smooth. I had the rear driveshaft balanced twice and even install another driveshaft & still vibrated. They took the weight off the front of the driveshaft and it helped but I could still feel it. I also wonder if its a bearing in the rearend. Now this month, a new buzzing vibration started under load at all speeds but hardly noticeable when decelerating. It's May 2018, is there a better analyzer now to find the problems my truck has?

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The App can automatically tell you the exact type of vibration the vehicle is experiencing (there are at least 10 different types of vibrations on a typical vehicle). The App will lead you to find the exact cause of the vibration by following step-by-step diagnostic and repair procedures. We have identified at least 276 different causes of vibrations on a typical vehicle.
      I suspect you have a second order driveshaft vibration. This type of vibration is typically caused by improper/unequal u-joint working angles. The NVH app includes diagnostics and repair information for that type of vibration.
      There is no better NVH analyzer out there in my opinion. Best wishes

    You know what would be wild. An audible replication of the frequency which you can listen to and go BINGO!
    And likewise, shut off unwanted frequencies like if the third order tire is interfering with you listening to your first order propeller

    Hi, some mechanics mark the output flange of the differential and transmission when removing a drive shaft. Is that really necessary ? The front and rear drive shaft are balanced together , but the transmission and differential position doesn't matter right?

    • @le0nida525

      Did you get any answer regarding this? I am fighting a driveline vibration. I have tried multiple things. Somebody asked in a forum if I had taken the flanges out of phase. I am assuming this is very similar to what you ask. I cannot even remember if I moved them, but for sure I didn't verify, nor marked anything (since I thought the only thing needing a balancing was the driveshaft

    I was all set to get this app as I have a "wobble" in the car that so far ball joint and wheel bearing have not fixed, latest suspect is a subframe joint, but at £100 UK thats a bit steep to see if it works, I see there is a £23 one also but it doesn't really show much on the functionality and again not willing to spend £25 to see if its useful

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your feedback. £100 UK is a great price for what the app does. That is the sales price, it is normally £400 UK. You could easily spend more than throwing parts at your car trying to fix it. With the app you can skip the guessing, diagnose it properly and see what it really needs. Best wishes.

    price is a bit of a barrier. I'm sure the math and logic are excellent but is smart phone on dash a good sensing tool. I would have thought it should be securely mounted. what about device bouncing vibration?

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for your feedback. The price is low compared to guessing and buying parts and services you do not need. This app not only tells you the source of your vibration, it eliminates the rest of the parts on the vehicle as possible sources. Every rotating part on the vehicle has a unique signature. The device ignores anything that is not a possible part on the car. This means that bouncing, cracks in the road, etc, will have no affect on the diagnostics. Securely mounting the device is not necessary, although it is preferred. The only difference between securely mounted and not securely mounted is the amplitude level of the vibrations detected. The frequencies of the vibrations are the same either way. It is all relative anyway. The frequency with the highest average amplitude is probably the vibration you are feeling as you drive the vehicle. I hope that helps. Have a good day.

    • @WeberAuto

      If there was no death wobble before you replaced the driveshaft and the brake drum, then the driveshaft and the brake drum is responsible. I do not think the driveshaft would cause that, but a brake drum could. Perhaps the brake drum is out of round or not mounted properly, or defective. Best wishes!

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for the feedback. in my 22 years of performing vibration diagnosis I have learned that almost all vehicle vibrations fall into one of three groups of rotating parts. 1. Tire speed related vibrations. 2. Driveshaft speed related vibrations. 3. Engine speed related vibrations. There are other very rare, but possible conditions as well. Determining which of these groups/conditions your vibration falls into has been very difficult until now. The NVH App will show you and tell you which of these groups the vibration on your vehicle fits into. Each of the previous three groups has many possible conditions/malfunctions/mis-adjustments that can make the rotating parts cause a vibration. The diagnostic procedures and repair procedures for each of these conditions are included in the NVH app as well as dozens of training videos. I will be making additional videos in the future on these topics.

    The app really needs a remote magnetic wired or bluetooth accelerometer probe to narrow down the source of the vibration (ex which motor mount, which U Joint, which tire). As it is, you have to spend hundreds and hundreds or thousands of dollars on disassembling parts to determine the specific part that is bad.

      That is true, there are a lot of great mechanics out there. There are also a lot of mechanics that have no idea of what to do if balancing your tires does not fix the problem, so they will start guessing and wasting your money. (By the way. balancing tires will cost you at least $48). We have identified nearly 300 possible causes of vibrations of a typical vehicle. Out of balance tires isn't even the number one cause of vibrations, it is number two. The number one cause is time consuming and difficult to do, so it rarely gets checked.

      @@WeberAuto I would like to know how well it can pinpoint problems. I was in an accident and cannot discern where exactly a vibration I have is coming from. The mechanics replaced the wheel hub bearing, and that took care of one source. I don't know if that one came back or now I have another one, my initial guess being the transmission. (fought to get that covered by my insurance) but now I'm more inclined to think it's something else, though a local dealer says it is the transmission. I would like to be able to definitively say without taking the transmission apart. I strongly suspect now that there is some other source like the cv axle. Just how microcosmic can it get? I'm really in a pinch - I do not want to swap the transmission out with a used one, and don't know anyone I really trust. this could be just the answer I needThanks.
