Helping a blind white squirrel find it’s way home for Christmas

- This is a story about a very rare creature: a sweet albino squirrel. She was fully blind and had been living in a tiny cage. She deserved a better life. But would she be able to find her den in a big aviary, with other squirrels around?
Hi everyone, I’m delighted for you to meet this almost mythical little animal. I named her Polar. She has been with me for some time now and after some ups and downs she is flourishing now.
She is a Japanese squirrel (Sciurus lis). Unfortunately sometimes a white one is born. Unfortunately because they tend to have less sight. And in very rare cases, they are completely blind, like Polar. Of course I wanted to give her the best life possible.

Kind of a disclaimer:
Squirrels make wonderful pets… yet, I believe animals should not be held in cages. These Japanese squirrels that are living with me would be considered a thread to nature in my country in the wild. Therefore I am not able to set them free.
If you would ever consider owning a squirrel yourself, please, before you do so, read all you can about how to take care of them first. Realise that they need you to play with them as much as you can (at least an hour per day!) and, most important, build an aviary that is as big as you possibly can afford… Before you get them.

That's why I feed the birds and squirrels every day with one squirrel coming in the window. To give as many conscious beings a better day as I possibly can. There's a video of the window squirrel on my channel.

Honestly, my heart nearly broke for poor Polar when I saw her sitting all alone in the cold at night, although it later just lit up when I saw her come out of her new den with her new cuddle buddy. 😊😊😊

See i am too young too. I cant legally get my rehabbers perkit for another 3 years. So instead, i rehab other small animals like snakes and other creatures. And in the event of a pandemic, and everything is shut down, then i will rehab it myself.

Nah, he doesn't have enough patience for people.
Some people have the patience to help animals, some have the patience to teach screeching toddlers, some have the patience to adopt, some have the bravery to rescue others from mortal danger, some have the patience to study medicine in a lab, etc., etc. In my case, I get excited by watching clouds move for ten hours straight (meteorology/weather forecasting, which is used to give advance warning about deadly weather events).
There is no one perfect person. We all need to be good, yes, but we also need to find the kind of good that we are personally gifted with.

I know that a million ppl have said it but this man is for sure one of the most caring, thoughtful, kind and amazing man to all animals. And whenever i watch one of his vids, it just makes me so happy so i want to be just like him. He works so hard for his creatures and loves them non stop. I'm legally blind too. Retinitis Pigmentosa. I can pretty much see what's in front of me. My perifrial is gone and I need a lot of light.
I have a ministry called icons for the blind. They are Orthodox icons. Its on a donation basis so not trying to sell something, but email if interested. I will figure out a way to fit little Polar in the picture somehow.

You stopped at nothing to save a chick from suffocating in its giant egg. You hand raised a tiny bird, even despite being like, a hundred times bigger than him. Underappreciated detail about this story: how quickly Aka's gf decided that Polar is her new bestie. She was apparently the first to approach polar when she first showed up in the aviary, and then proceeded to invite herself over to be a nighttime snuggle buddy when Polar found herself a den on the second visit. 💕

Kids often are like that, wanting to help animals, take them in, etc. Adults are the ones who get too busy with their own lives to care sometimes and think it will be too much trouble or responsibility.
Adults too! Start by teaching kids and hopefully they’ll grow into rescuer adults.
Something I’ve started to do because of my boyfriend is checking discarded boxes and bags on the sides of the road or on the highway. We hear about lots of animals dumped boxes, so we always have to go back and check. Haven’t had to rescue any animals yet, but we’re doing our part to check out anything worrying.

You are the one person in the world I am most envious of. You get to spend your life taking care of all these animals. All I’d want is a bed, and a place to put my guitar and I’d switch places with you in a heartbeat.
I had a cockatiel that lost his eyesight when he was 27 years old and he completely adapted. There were only a couple of times we changed his aviary after his blindness, but he always adjusted after some initial fear. He lived happy, healthy, and blind until he was 37 years old. He lived that many years past the expected captive lifespan of 15 years. He passed away in 2015 and I still miss him every day.

The way she moves around, navigating by her hearing, her whiskers, and sometimes her paws, reminds me of my little blind cat, Button. Her eyes were destroyed by infection when she was a kitten, likely due to being born someplace dirty, before she came to us and we had to have them removed. But she's done quite well, visiting friends are surprised by how well she gets around without sight! Like how I was surprised by how spry Polar is, even jumping from aviary-wall-to-aviary-wall at times!

The squirrel Looks albino, most albino animals are generally more blind then other animals, like albino people most have bad eye sight but they're a beauty.

With ferrets, it's actually linked to deafness. Millie, my albino gal, can see just fine, but she couldn't hear a thunderclap if it went off two feet behind her.

Awe such a sweet squirrel. That's a very rare Albino squirrel. Unfortunately even in the human race Albino's are usually either born blind or over time will lose their eye sight. There are Albino's in most species. They have the neatest eyes, red pupils. The most incredible pale skin. It looks like the softest skin you will ever see. Like clouds or pillows of marshmallows. Or silky white fur. One of my neighbors down the road has an Albino horse. Oh my god is she amazing. Being blind she is a bit skidish or jumpy but she is getting more relaxed and use to her surroundings. They have an amazing acreage and built everything to suit her.
Such a beautiful squirrel. Sad fact that many albino animals do suffer blindness. She is so lucky to have such a caring person.
