    Thrilled that your excellent series covers my local line (specifically Cambridge to Hitchin) and is done so with your customary attention to detail and excellent commentary. Bravo, sir!

    1:27:08 the class 387s max speed is 110 MPH which is still slower than the speed limit so on the ECML fast lines they can go speeding along at their top speed

    that "4" on the driving desk is indicating how many carriages you have on the unit
    For the Desiro city units it's "RLU 8" which means "reduced length unit 8 carriages", FLU 12 means "Full length unit" 12 carriages"

    i get this service regularly, had no idea that there was this many stops at one point id never have the patience for that. It now calls at Cambridge and is direct to Kings Cross.

      I use this service for my commute. Morning peak and from afternoon peak until end of service, it also stops at LGC and Royston between KGX and Cambridge

    Ely is here I lived until I was 11, I rode trains all the time from Ely station for days out and to see my grandparents who live in kings lynn. They absolutely nailed Ely station, from the approach past pocket path and the river great ouse to the station itself with the underpass. 10/10 station.

    Hey, btw you can set the destination using the code 1010 for Kings Cross on the TCMS screen to the left of you as it is a partially functional screen

    Lovely video. On the question of whether the 'Cambridge express' still runs - yes, Great Northern run two non-stop services per hour between King's X and Cambridge with 8-car Class 387s, which then continue on to either Ely or King's Lynn. 48 minutes from London to Cambridge.

    The Cambridge express today is only available in the form of a class 387 that carries on past Cambridge to Ely or Kings Lynn (including the return journey), it’s still a nice journey except there’s no class 365s running up and down the line anymore

    • @dansummers2965
      @dansummers2965 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True: it's still fast from KGX to Cambridge, I believe, but the front 8 coaches then disconnect and continue stopping to Kings Lynn.

    • @DitzyNizzy2009
      @DitzyNizzy2009 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dansummers2965 - No they're not: they're 8-coach trains from Kings Cross all the way to Kings Lynn (the platforms at Watlington and Waterbeach were extended to accommodate 8-coach trains in the late 2010s, with the services starting in December 2019).

    Great video as always. One question though, I thought half the reason the 387s took over from 365s is because they can do 110 on the ECML? I might not be remembering correctly as it's been a while since I've been on a 387 on that route.

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My understanding is that Class 387s were limited to 100 on the ECML due to the pantographs and the OHLE used, though I could be wrong.

    This train has no cruise control? If I remember, the cruise control button is under the brake panel next to the yellow button.

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From my understanding of Electrostars, most (but not all) classes have a speed set/cruise control, but drivers aren’t supposed to use it. That’s certainly true of Southeastern Class 375s and Southern Class 377s as a driver told me about it.

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I run it on an SSD. My processor is a bit faster than yours but not hugely faster - maybe 15-20% at clock speed. The processor is the Intel Core i9 10900k 10 core processor with a base clock of 3.7ghz. Though I do have an AIO water cooler on the processor with intelligent overclocking turned on with the motherboard - taking the base clock speed of 3.7ghz up to a maximum of 5.3ghz. My graphics card is the Nvidia RTX 3070, which runs around 60-90% faster than your card. The CPU is more important than the graphics card when it comes to Train Simulator!

    • @PTGRail

      It’s my understanding that it’s related to the overhead catenary on the ECML, more for longer trains with multiple pantographs - but all 387s were limited to 100mph.
