      One of the best techniques is to use the pattern Jon shows us & pick all six notes then legato all six notes, pick all six notes then legato all six notes. Keeping them even and in time. It will help to synchronize the hands

    Great lesson. I would add that the pressure you need to apply is very different if you are not playing with a highly processed distortion tone. Clean tones and edge of breakup tones require a lot more strenght and so it's important to practice legato using your tone of choice because it has a huge impact on what works. Super light playing is almost useless if you have a large dynamic range in your tone because your legato will be inaudible compared to picked notes.

    • @lovemetal2467

      Exactly. Plus, if you use 54-12 gauge strings, you have too apply more pressure, which I prefer, because it adds more of an accent to my specific tone. I use a Peavey XXX in the studio, and I have a Peavey Valveking at home, I love how incredibly clear yet crunchy the gain is on both of them. Take Care Man.🤘🏻🤘🏻

I am 45 years old and "I'm trying to" play the guitar for over 30 years (with a break of several years in adult life), but so far my legato does not look so damn good even at 10% as yours, not to mention the Jon's play level. I knew everything Jon was talking about, but I couldn't put it together in a meaningful whole. But today I'm getting practice - so far i'm going good :)
    Thanks again!

    I've been struggling with excessive tension on my left shoulder when playing. It started improving when I started studying very basic stuff in a veeeery slow motion. Of course, no way to do legato really slowly, this bit about the ammount of pressure in strings is the best part of this exercise for me.

    • @Wh33lsofFortune

      Are you sitting with your guitar classical style (right handed player, guitar over left leg) or regular? Because, when I used to practice by sitting regular (right handed player, guitar over right leg) I ended up with tendonitis in my right shoulder. Once I switched I no longer had issues.

    • @anyshittynickname
      @anyshittynickname 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NeXusZT Yes, I study with it in the classical position using a foot stool. I improved a lot on this issue by paying attention and making a conscious effort to relax whenever I felt excessive tension forming. It was even worse when standing up, but this aware practice helped me a lot. I also bought a very good strap, which is an item many people simply don't pay attention to.

    The 10-minute practice is very powerful and it is a science based approach. Many people think that practicing non stop for hours will improve their playing. That's true but the progress is very less as our brain can't focus for such long session. So, practicing for 10 minutes each time will result in faster progrrss

    Legato is just a Rythym of hammer ons and pull offs inside whichever scale and notes you choose too play. I typically play legatos in the old school Blues Scale that's at the top of the neck that starts on the second fret of the A string. It's the 2-4. 2-4. 2-4. 2-3-5. Blues Scale. Tuned to E Standard of course. I use 54-12 gauge strings, so I actually have to push harder while playing a Legato, but I prefer putting more of an accent into it. Cool Vid Man.
