    This dude is right,when i started playing, i learned a few scales and speed comes with practice, once i had it down, the speed just comes. These litrle riffs,scales etc really do make you a better guitar player. Start slow and after awhile your shredding and you dont even know how you got there!!

    I quit playing for years because someone stole all my musical equipment, but I recently got a new Ibanez and a nice amp head to go with a Randall cab my friend gave me. I found your channel shortly after and watching your videos make me want to play 24/7, which is slowly making me a better guitar player. Looking forward to more Lessons with Jon for sure. Just wanted to say I love all the content!

    The accents on 2 and then later on 4 were kicking my tail.... Solved it with inflection in my counting. With the traditional one-ee-and--aa counting I emphasized where I needed to accent in the count.
    For the twos: one-EEE!-and-aa, two-EEE!-and-aaa, etc
    For the fours: one-ee-and---AAA!. two-ee-and-AAA!, etc
    This really helped me out when I applied this approach.

    Ola I'm quite thankful to have found your channel! I started playing guitar in the early 90's but just sucked. Life has kept me away from practice for a long time but you have inspired me to pick up my dusty guitars buy a new amp and try to play again. Thank you dude! Thanks for everything from will it chug to this you are quite amazing!

    9:42 that shoe lace example is spot on and we can all relate to it!
    10:00 then Ola suggests opposite approach of going as fast as you can then fix your technique
    best of two worlds

    • @LykanVarion
      @LykanVarion ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both are valid, Shawn Lane himself said among others like Troy Grady to start blistering fast, to find the comfortability in doing so, then slowing it down and making sure you keep the comfortable "good" technique when slowing down too

  • @Kai_Degen
    @Kai_Degen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Starting with an up- or downstroke depends on you right hand position, especially how you prefer to hold your pick. I prefer to hold the pick pointing slighly upwards, so starting with an upstroke is definitely more cofortable, as the pick is positioned above the strings right before you have to switch to the next string. If you prefer to hold the pick pointing slightly downwards, start with a downstroke. If you are a master of pick the slanting technique anyway, you'll do it automatically the right way ;)

    I taught myself guitar and, somehow, naturally found alternate picking. When I started working as a studio/session player I was dumbfounded when a producer asked me how I was so good at it. I had no idea people need to learn and practice it when it seemed so natural to me. Sometimes you pick up bad habits, sometimes good ones. Hell, I often play solos and single-note pieces with up-strokes only! Haha. Stay safe everyone. Cheers from Florida.
