Céline came out way earlier, even before Whitney Houston. Céline debuted in 1981, and at only 15 years old she became the first Canadian artist to ever achieve a gold record in France and the first Canadian artist to sell over 1 million records in France. This was before Whitney’s debut as well. She was a French singer for a decade before she debuted in English in 1990.

She was singing way early! Had at least 7 or 8 french albums before her first English album in 1990 'Unison'.

I never understand how Celine critics think she lacks emotion in her voice/singing.

@@minmcgonagall9190 her popular songs are tame compared to her other work and live performances which is why many people including vocalist reactors think she is underrated or under appreciated when they finally hear her other work. I guess it’s better to be underrated than overrated. And to be underrated when you’re already a legend or icon just means you must be exceptional!

I was lucky enough to be there to see this show twice during the run. I remember this song so well the audience was entranced ...not a sound could be heard, A true moment in time. I was already claiming then, Celine is a Musician and her voice is her instrument. All singers/ artists are one of a kind but she really has created a category of her own IMO

The quiet moments in this performance are what hit me the most. This song is so complicated to sing and requires insane amount of skill and talent, not to mention patience. This is easily one of the best performances ever by any artist. Great reaction as usual.

Celine‘s English music came out a few months before Mariah ‘s, in the late 1980s. At least that’s when I discovered her. But she’s had a career since 1981 when she was 13 years old.

And what's incredible is that her success never made her capricious. She is simple. She is the youngest girl of 14 brothers and sisters, they were all musicians!! The mother played violin, the father accordéon, the brothers and the sisters played guitare or piano and everybody sang at night at home!! Céline was 7 years old and she loved to sing a song or 2 at their parent's restaurant for the WE. And when people called to reserve a table they asked: “Will the little girl be there? Her manager, who is her husband, was an adorable man who never wanted Céline to frequent the world of showbizness. She sings on stage and they both go home.

The wildest thing about Celine’s career is that her vocals have always been so immaculate, she’s known nowadays for giving and giving, and right around then was when people in Quebec started making fun of her mannerisms, her melismas, the way she emoted, her intensity. For at least 2 decades (up until recently) “mocking celine” was the cool thing to do. Ridiculing her “great singer” status was common in the Quebec medias. Insane…

Celine is Quebecois (French Canadian for the Province of Quebec). Her inspiration/mentor is Ginette Reno, also Quebecois. Celine's husband was Rene Angelil, who passed away a few years ago. Rene Angelil was Ginette Reno's manager until Reno decided to opt out of the international circuit. Angelil discovered Dion when she was 12 - 13 years, already well recognized in the province of Quebec. She won the Eurovision competition in 1988 at 20 years old. Interesting another superstar Belgian Lara Fabian finished 4th in the competition. th-cam.com/video/FNVR0yK8Ec8/w-d-xo.html. Fabian now resides in Montreal. For all Quebecers one of the most moving moments came with Celine Dionm who was hosting the 400 year celebration concert (2008) of the founding of Quebec was singing with Ginette Reno in the finale. I'm not being Quebecer, but I do know what it meant to the Quebecois. th-cam.com/video/YEB2C9Wx0Mw/w-d-xo.html
