    I had a hen on multiple occasion lay an egg in the basket and be my first bird back in the top 5 birds in the combine. Over 400 miles races. Additionally I had one come home and laid an egg she was the second place bird at out 500. 🤷🏽‍♂️

      What do you think about Virkon H2O?

    • @Josh-NikkiB

      be honest as much as they all do have benefits for an animals if their been farmed on large scale.
      Most if not all virkon and Bio Xv products are very similar and contain some pretty strong chlorides, acids and limonenes.
      which as much as they are of course very diluted , I still personally think and our company chemist agrees do too much harm to the gut biome of healthy animals such as your pigeons.
      On large scale where proper stockmanship is difficult due to time and scale I can really see the plus points. But in the antibiotic free smaller scale environment such as your amazing loft I personally think you will hurt more than it helps.
      I farmed for first 10ish years of my working life and have about 4 years in manufacturing the products I used to use, but at the end of the day it is really just my opinion, but I mean I wouldn't ever drink it so I try to treat my pigeons as well as I do myself.
      Massive thanks for rest of your videos and guides helped me so so much in the pigeon sport.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      It is tough to say. More space is better than less space. 60 young may need 8 foot by 12 foot with a small flight pen.

      Thank you ... Question - what does feeding look like on the last day for a 750 km flight (putting on on Thursday and flying on Saturday)? I know that the food is rich - do you feed twice a day as much as possible, or with some restrictions?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      I will feed twice and all they want if I have time for a long flight the day of shipping. I use mostly fat seeds and mix Versela Laga Traditional Sneaky Mix with Versela Laga Energy.

      Thanks . In the upcoming season, due to limited time, I will try your method of feeding and training for females. We have quite a demanding plan - 14 flights, including: 4 x 530 km and 2 x 750 km. In previous years, my pigeons (except the yearlings) participated in all flights every week. We'll see for how long
      this new system will allow, because I will not hide that it will be a small "revolution" for my pigeons :) ...

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      They are an old family and Sion died a million years ago. It is easier to find a long distance pigeon that is very successful today and winning for many fanciers now. Your odds are much better.

  • @johnboscareno677

    although i wasn't able to watch live, as always a very informative video hopefully i can put some of the ideas into practice. when you talking about not loft flying because of the hawks. i too had a horrible last yb season. i had a small 8 bird team and lost all but three at various times. do you think that just bringing them on training tosses gives ybs a better chance of survival from attacks?
    keep up the videos

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      Once my young birds are training I no longer loft fly. You increase losses due to hawks by loft flying. My old birds are not even let out to fly once during the entire season. I go right from the loft to training but start at 1/4 mile and the birds are nice and light due to feeding. Loft flying early in the season will lead to hawks killing some of the pigeons.

    Frank do you pair your birds up before racing

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      I do not pair the birds before racing. I feel it may be beneficial to do this and the hens are less likely to mate to each other if they had a baby right before the season starts. I keep it very simple and just go right into racing.

  • @JamesKelly-hd7ns

    Hi frank super video as always i have a few hens i didn't race in 2 years would they be alright to get back racing this season or would i have to give a lot of training on the road first to get them homing

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      It is difficult to bring pigeons back to racing after two years off. It can be done and hens will certainly be easier. Start slow and give plenty of training before the races. If they have been loft flying all this time they will not need any extra training.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      Many use the yellow drops on the grain. It works well on the grain. I would suggest two drop per pigeon if you put on the grain then feed to the pigeons immediately.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      That is a mistake. When my birds arrive they can go to water and drink all they want if they like. They are dehydrated after a long flight and must drink upon arrival. Do not listen the the 'old wives tales". Let them drink.

    Excellent. At about the hour mark you mentioned only training a team out to 18 miles about one week before the first race. Were those old birds that had previously been down the road or previously raced, or did they literally have only that short experience to 18 miles out prior to racing?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      Hi Kerby, These were my old birds and the body weight was perfect. They had experience and came to the top with very little work before the season.

    • @kerbyjackson88

      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Have you ever seen young birds go to races with little experience at distance and still do well? Is the body weight a bigger factor than experience?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      Funny that you say that. I have seen amazing performances with pigeons with less training and perfect body weight. The birds need enough experience to home but they can pull away with perfect body weight. Young birds need some mixing and breaking but after that feeding is a big part.
