I bought one new with a burgundy color matched Windjammer fairing. Had to get used to the shaft drive as it would torque on the curves if you let off the gas so you had to accelerate through the turn. Awesome bike for cruising all day.
All boxer engines smoke on startup. It's not the valve stem seals. It's the oil remaining in the piston rings at shutdown draining past the rings into the combination chambers on the left side. The same thing happens on the right side but that oil ends up back in the sump. Air cooled VW engines would smoke as well but from all 4 cylinders. If they didn't smoke the ring oiling holes in the Pistons were clogged with carbon and would end up damaging the Pistons and cylinders due to a lack of oil getting to the rings.
I bought a Super Sport 750 Honda in 1976.My roommate bought the GL1000 and it was much quicker. I now own that GL1000 and it has 9000 miles! Those bars are stock height, however these bikes look much better with lower bars. I think 'chopper ' trendy in those days.
It smokes on left side because of oil is heavier . On the valves on that side cause of the kick stand the bike is leaning on cold starts. That is way had two gl 1000 same common problem normal!!
@@erikpaaske1069 I love many different vintage and antique things. Vintage/Antique cars, motorcycles, clothes, etc... It's also interesting learning things. I just happen to know the smoking on the left is a design quirk, nothing to worry about. (Some ppl don't know that)
@@alexar.h.5031 wow! The 78 or 79 has been my dream bike for some time now. I want stock with maybe a Vetter fairing. Black jeans with jean jacket. That funky gold wing bird on the back of jacket. Bell Bulitt or Gringo Helmut. I am into all sorts of retro stuff too. You should see my living room. You are one cool chic! Good luck on the bike

Better than any Harley ever made
Now everybody knows why they call you Crazy Ed.
Apples & oranges. I suppose you compare 1932 Ford / flathead V-8's, with modern day Ferrari's... But then, it takes all kinds, huh ?!

If that’s a third year model, what’s my’75? Still in gestation?
How do you get all of these nice retro Hondas?
Plenty of hp there, in this old bike, around 85 hp, that's a bunch!
78 hp
I just got a 78 goldwing from my father in law. It only has 14k miles.. i cant find someone to look it over for me... can anyone help me?
nice bike...
Do you sell the Goldwing 1000?
Smoke is normal from side stand. They tried to correct the problem with the 79 but thats nothing to worrie about. Nice survivor!!
Yep it's just a quirk of an evolutionary design
@@alexar.h.5031 Rebecca? You are into old bikes?

Take foam out of the seat
That what I did I’m 5 6 works great
That thing sure does have a chirp to it… not sure if it’s valve or piston slap but something is certainly not right about it.
It’s the straight cut primary drive gear, that’s perfectly normal
HONDA 💖🇯🇵💖
Sounds like a bag of nails !
