My nice 2-bedroom apartment in the heart of Cebu city was $258.00 USD or 14k pesos. Electric was $78.00 or roughly 4,400 pesos. Wi-Fi, Water & Gas was $45.00 or roughly 2,500 pesos. Which equates to $380.00 or roughly 21,300 pesos. Just over $600.00 or roughly 33,000 pesos for food & entertainment felt comfortable. But I was single, ate & drank good at home with friends and never felt lonely or depressed. Finding temporary companionship was never an issue.
Spot on and leaves extra out of the 1000 to save for emergency problems that can occur.👍
I'm moving to the Philippines next month, I will live of $400 USD per month, I will also have a Filipina girlfriend and I'm gonna feed her family, I'm sue I can live Well.

What I qualify on social security alone I can live in the US and extremely extremely well, in retirement its not about living tge high life, you were supposed to do that while you were working each and everyday, in retirement you're suppose to relax and enjoy, now if you have a Filipina that actually loves you for you, she won't be trying to live the movie star life style just make things a little better, not change who she is, I think guys go there get these young Filipinas who want a western life in the Philippines, western men need to keep in mind what and why we escaped to the PI and stop creating a Eastern version of Western women
How about health insurance? Car insurance? Car maintenance? Clothes? Seems to be much missing here.
Budget is simple. Live a modest life in a low end finished house, tiles, painted inside and out, full cr, public transportation (available within 50 meters in cities), cook yourself with outdoor market food, and don't go out to eat for 800 to 1300 USD per month. At the current exchange.
To live comfortably by US middle middle class type standards 1700 to 2500 USD.
This is by yourself. No family. If you can't live without sex, there are professionals for reasonable fees.
Again. This is current exchange rates that are good. There are signs of serious economic instability over the next year so be wary.
The video covers most expenses so listen carefully and do the math.

That is a good amount. I think that is better than most, to be honest. I am very much like you guys. I love to mix up my meals like Garry. Wishing you all the very best Leah and garry.
The main goal is to live more life for less money overseas. If you want all the comforts from back home will be very expensive. The lifestyle you want will always determine the cost no matter where you live. Its not my place to judge another person happiness. I am happily married overseas spending around $1,200 - $1,500 monthly living a comfortable lifestyle in Thailand. I save more money than I spend on a monthly basis. If single you can live in survival mode just taking care of basic needs well under $1, 000 a month. Some people live on $500 a month barely living life overseas. If living a very frugal lifestyle make sure to have money saved for the unexpected. The better the lifestyle the more it cost. Only you can judge what makes you happy in life. I hope this couple enjoys life that makes them the happiest. Make sure to do your homework visiting a place before settling down. Never rush to find love taking the time to meet a good partner. Always respect the locals and their culture leaving your bad habits back home. The hardest part is having a steady income overseas with meeting the visa requirements of the country that interest you. Always be smart staying safe while traveling keeping an open mind.

How much was your family paying a month before you got together with Gary? How much is your Filipino family friends paying a month in the Philippines? I’m sure it’s WAY more expensive when a westerner finds a Filipina and her kids to live with compared to a Filipino families cost of living.

It is more expensive because the westerner wants more ‘creature comforts’ than the Filipino family is used to having. Westerners are spoiled in life compared to the vast majority of Filipinos. Filipinos don’t miss what they never had. Westerners spend more to live spoiled lifestyle. It is WAY more expensive by choice, not by necessity. If you adopt the lifestyle of normal province family cost is cheap. If you move family to western lifestyle cost is expensive. It is the westerners choice, yes?

The expenses they have is definitely not ordinary compared to a typical ph family. This is already rich territory in the ph, even half of their expenses you can already live comfortable specially if you live in visayas and mindanao area as luzon cost of living is a bit higher. Most filipino live off around 20 to 25k pesos a month which is around $500 dollars and most live comfortably with it too.
Small things add up. If I pay $3 USD at a coffee shop each day, that is $90 per month. Crazy how it adds up.

They are living a very western lifestyle. I think once you bring in a partner and try and give them and their kids a western lifestyle also , it really drives up the price .
Even so, not every foreigner had the same western lifestyle, and expect retirement to be just like it was working full time. It won't be for most. Just like in the states, they'll have to cut back and/or be frugal.
Wow food bill is expensive. $650 per month? Yikes. You only have very small children. I spend about $350 in Florida, US, for two adults, which includes toiletries etc. We eat out twice a week, so about $250 a month. Compared with your $450 a month. Shocked at the prices there actually.
@@sandrabentley8111 You can eat well for much less than that but, surprisingly, food is more expensive than you would expect, especially fruits and veggies, which are grown locally.
Dumaguete is expat central the rent there is outrageous. 28k for a 4 bedroom house? Fuggettabout it. I have a 3 bedroom split level house in a gated subdivision in Liloan, Cebu for 15k a month about a 10 minute walk from the beach.
@@sandrabentley8111 You right , I live here in USA in a small town ,we own our house and to us living in Philippines is more expensive if you compare to some grocery items that are sold in big box store in PI , some pork and chicken are cheaper here, I could find 99 cents a pound for pork shoulder or whole chicken at Food for Less store for 99 cents a pound. Another topic medical it's hard just to roll the dice in P.I if you don't have a medical insurance or money in the bank to cover a large sum of hospital bills. We are both retired and using Medicare and Tricare for life for me and Tricare prime for my wife. In short $1500 a month that includes our property tax , house and car insurance. I'm a Filipino and I visited my county so many times so i know what I'm talking about.Let me add something, for foreigners it's easier to find a much younger girlfriends in asian countries due to poverty, most of this girls assume that these foreigners have plenty of money although some are receiving SSS which is still above the poverty level in the Philippines.
Apples and oranges for some of us - double income, no kids, vasectomy, modest accommodation, cook at home and chill 😎

@@marinex9592 That's the thing. Saying $1,000 is s struggle to survive in the Philippines is relative. What will that $1,000 get your in USA or Australia? A month's worth of groceries maybe. For that amount you would be living pretty good in the Philippines. Basically like a middle class Filipino. It's all relative. My pension will be around $2,000 USD and I will retire there. But I plan to live on half of that and save the rest.

Washington has the highest minimum wage in USA, which is $15.74 per hour. If a normal person works 8 hours a day/shift, then the daily pay is 125.92$. So the montly income will be 3777.60$.
If living in Phillipines is costing 2500$, then I think everyone should really think whether it is really cheap living in the phillipines where no facilities and jobs are available like the US has by any means.
I have not heard anywhere that Phillipines is developed in manufacturing sector, IT sector, agricultural sector or any other commercial sector. The cost of living is decided by the development in commercial sector which generates higher paid jobs, which ultimately decides what the spending capacity/habits are of the citizens. I can understand the house rent as it a very spacious and comfortable house, but other things are simply too expensive. Looks like to have a love life in Phillipines is a very costly dream :)

Some people think it’s cheap there. They are not there to see for themselves. It not cheap anymore but is is cheaper than the larger cities in the US. Since most people there are retired got to have a budget.
I think the point is if you only have 1000k are you better off living on that in the West or in the Philippines? I think the answer is the Philippines.

$2500 a month is very reasonable for your amazing lifestyle. Your house is beautiful and functional. I would likely prefer a woman with kids. I forgot to have kids...so I like them🙂 I am spending 5X that per month, or more, currently. Includes maintaining a home and a beach condo... travel a bit. Would miss weed though 🙂. Great video, because some people don't have common sense.There is a price to pay for healthcare and a list of other things stay in your country if you don't have social security and at least 300.000 in the bank.
I met Gary and Leah in Ground Zero while on vacation last month. I plan on retiring to the Philippines next year and settle down with my girlfriend. Gary and Leah are very nice and I find their channel is very informative and important to me.
So if they spent only on food 1100 and house 650, that can easily get knocked down for a single person to 400usd. So total for a single person can be 600 US to live comfortably.

I am on a budget of 60000 pesos a month have a girlfriend who unbelievably pays half of the utility bills and food with me she has a job that pay 20000 a month she saves between 8000 to 10000 a month as I pay the rent and all our holidays and social activities and treats clothes etc etc I have told my girlfriend from the outset I won't marry ever! Or have children and will only take care of her financially and medically if need be! And most importantly of all and I implore all expats to do this any friend or relatives of hers will not get any pesos from me ever, we have a great life and need nothing more I rarely spend my budget her life has improved in all aspects we are equals I will always support her nobody else ! I could never dream of this life in UK I'm so grateful to be here
I'm going to build a house so that cuts out $500 a month (maybe I need $200 for maintenance) so -$300, no kids to send to school so -$80 a month, I'm going to dine out half as much as you so that's -$225, and I'm going to spend about half as much on groceries are there are only two of us -$325. So I've just knocked $930 off the amount you spend a month.

I live in Thailand on 25000 bhat a month and give my wife 7000 bhat a month done that for the last 3 years
IMO Thailand is cheaper than the PI. My power bill is usually like $21 a month (condo), Phone unlimited data 1800 a year/$5 a month, Fiber internet 5000b a year/$12 a month, going out to eat local 50 -120b and good, foreign meals $4-10. Being able to go out to eat "local" and it being good is great. IMO in the PI housing, power, internet and food cost more and most foreigners really have to eat at foreign more expensive places to be happy dining out.

That is a very comfortable life, downright extravagant for the average Filipino, to be honest, it’s probably about the minimum for the average Westerner who has been used to that for their whole life.
The $75 for coffee should probably be classified as entertainment because it sounds like your husband is socializing, and having coffee at the same time, unless he’s actually addicted to that expensive Starbucks type coffee.
My goal is to retire in the Philippines but $2,000 seems higher then expected. Our monthly expense is less then $2k for a family of 5 here in WA state. We dont pay rent but put monthly payment for the high property tax on my two homes which is include in the monthly expense.
I agree. They spend a lot on food, eating out etc., and I live in Florida. I have the same weather, if not better than the Philippines, due to our 'cooling' off for 6 months of the year.

You can make it just fine on $1200 to $1500 a month, I know many westerners here making it on $850 to $1000, it's all about your lifestyle. Truth be told, I would rather live in the Philippines on $1000 than trying to make it on that amount in the U.S. ...........don't let these kinds of budget videos discourage you on moving here.

Hey guys, sounds like you are doing really well on that 2K budget. It sounds very reasonable as well as 500/mo for a buffer. So you guys do things like Netflix or any of the other streaming services? You did mention your internet costs but what about the phone costs for service and load? Do you have a recommendation for basic vehicle maintenance and registrations? How about things like visa extension fees or other government fees that come up? Thanks for sharing. And the new place really is wonderful. God bless.
@@beachkid1 they never said anything about that being the limits of his earnings. They simply stated that is their budget to live comfortably according to their needs and wants. There are people who don't spend every penny they make and live below their means quite comfortably.
How about one or more cell phones? I assume you have a cell phone plan, which can be expensive in the US but probably not in the Philippines. Any streaming services? Lots of miscellaneous expenses if you add it all up.

Well after watching MANY budget Videos I see they live a more westerner lifestyle Thank I plan to live Because spending 2 Months there this year & renting in 2 subdivisions cheaper places (4,500 Pesos per month) With 1 unit being Brand new construction 1 Bedroom 1 CR, the 2 of us spend $1,200 per month for rent, utilities, Food at home & eating out, traveling by bus, Jeepney & tricycle), resorts, Me buying My GF & neighborhood kids gifts, All in total expenses. SO for us a Budget of $1,500/ month is More than enough
People do define 'comfortable' differently as you well know. I appreciate the sharing of your situation and what your 'definition' is. Others might adjust somewhat if they differ up or down ? -- Inflation is hitting us in the US hard. Homelessness is exploding from outrageous rent increases in many places. - - - It does seem to me that those people on $1000 budgets might very well be better off just "surviving' over there - than just trying 'surviving' over here ? -- The weather in the continental US is not good for living homeless ! Other than serious health issues the Philippines does seem like a better choice unless you need serious medical care and don't have the money for it ? It could be a big risk or a trade off as I see it. - - - Depends entirely on ones circumstances as to what may be best. I can see potential scenarios either way to be honest ? It might be a very difficult decision for some.
I live in Florida. I have all the benefits of living in a sub tropical climate, sun, beaches, outdoor lifestyle etc., yet our food bill is almost half of theirs and eating out is half. They seem to spend way more on food Than we do here. Plus their electricity is more expensive.

Groceries for a family of 4 in the US right now is pretty easily north of $1000, and probably closer to $1500 is you had teenagers.
It is just my wife and I, and we spend about $600 per month on groceries here in Florida. I'm sure it would be half that in the Philippines.

Budgets depend COMPLETELY on standard of living Westerner willing to accept. As a foreigner are U willing to sleep on a foam mattress with a fan or do demand a luxury condo in Makati? Budget videos are very squishy at best. When U go to 'ground zero' is that a food item in your budget or an entertainment cost?
I guess many of the people who need to know about the $1000/mo.budget - is because it's likely all they have - and - are looking to avoid the sidewalk at night ? You see - they may not really - "want to" - either - but it might be better than where they are now !?! - - That is simply my guess. - - Your family of 4 should be quite content with $2500 allowing for anything and everything - a fraction of US prices. --- I'm single in the US and spend close to $600/mo on food just for me ! Some months perhaps $450. Prices are way up ! --- I do think $1500 should be enough for 'just me' over there ?!? > I'm pretty frugal mostly and a smart shopper.

We tend to eat at home most of the time which not only saves money but means we eat better.
All fresh ingredients and cooked the way we like it.

My wife and me live from 1000 euro a month, I had savings so we bought a house, no rent, 25000 groceries, 3500 electricity, 4000 gas car, internet 1500, 18000 other stuff, 5000 savings, thats about all and we are good
Sounds like it's more expensive there than in some less developed European Union countries. But, on the other hand, the rent sounds quite good compared capital cities in more developed countries; for example I pay close to 1500 euros for a (large) studio in Berlin, and that obviously is still cheap compared to some other places. But my grocery cost here in Berlin is like 120-140 euros for a single person per month, I think (although I'm not tracking it).
Btw, I will be in PH the entire December (thanks to the ungodly amount of vacation days I had from this - very busy - year), most likely visiting Dumaguete too, and I'm quite hyped about it. :)
Yes, for their lifestyle and young chick on their right arm. Otherwise, it isn't as expensive (though not really free or cheap now). If single 1k solid, bare minimum.

Household budget is 35000. Includes wifi, drinking water. Food. No rent as living in partners home. 3 beds. We eat out at least once a week. Have a tuk tuk. Fuel 500 a month. Deep well and rain water storage. Building a 12000 ltr cement rain water tank. We are 3 adults and a teenage boy
I like the budget, as for groceries here in America I’m paying for 5 and it cost me about $1500 a month. Plus another $120 per meal we eat out. I can’t wait to leave here and to stop paying for my adult kids (who have good jobs). My electric here is at cheapest $350 a month.

Less than Gary and Leah for food, gas, eating out and electricity. My Seco bill was $89 last month for 3 bedroom, Central A/C home. Average outdoor temp last month..78 degrees.

Most of these Budget videos are based on what they want to tell you...Yes, it's their experience, but everyone's situation is different. My wife works full time, and a 9 year old at school...our budget is no more than $1,500 a month. I'm not going to make a list, and we have our own transportation, living in Bulacan, North of Manila. Some times I just take what people say with a pinch of salt. Have a nice day y'all.

The lifestyle that a man can provide will dictate what caliber of Filipina you will get. She is young and model beautiful and therefore she is deserving of a decent lifestyle. Those men who can’t afford to provide such a lifestyle need to lower their expectations to what they can afford.

This video should have been entitled: Why you should not live in Dumaguete. It's so expensive there for everything from what I've seen/heard about from vloggers. I live quite comfortably here in Liloan, Cebu. I'm single but I have a 3 bedroom split level home in a gated subdivision with 24h security. Rent is 15k per month, internet is 1.9k (350mbps), electricity is around 4k (I have two a/c), water is 170-200 (depending on usage), Now the food is my biggest expense as I eat primarily imported rib eye steak) I can easily spend 30k a month. I rent cars also if I need to travel to the city and that's 1.8k per 24h. I do that about 3 times per month. Less than 2,000 U.S.D. to live here and want for nothing.

As a canadian who reside is the philippines in the winter time!$1000 a month Us or Canadian cannot work for u. Yes its cheeper in Ph but u need more than 1000k. Then again if u can pay 20.000 a month! Why not buy land and build your own house1 I own mu own house in Southern Leyte.
Im still not convinced that leaving the US for the Phillipines is a good idea when you can move states or from city to smaller and cheaper towns. You can downscale and save by moving from NYC to a small town in Iowa, Ohio, Vermont etc and enjoy quality of life. Or move to Puerto Rico. Its misleading to say the US is expensive when you have 50states and so many small towns with varying cost of living to choose from. These guys must just admit that the motivation for moving to the Phillipines was women, i dont think its worth it for retirees who are not interested in Phillipino women to retire in the Phillipines. This is not retirement, it looks stressful to me, theyre too worried about the cost of living. Whats the point of emigrating to a country where you cant work or start a business? Retirees say salaries are low and businesses fail, they have no way of making extra income in the Phillipines. I'll move from LA or Miami to a small town in Alabama, Oklahoma, Arkansas or something, warm Southern hospitality, trade my big car for an entry level car, cancel cable tv, stop eating out, get a part time job, start a work from home business, if there were no job in the US you wouldnt have so many immigrants.

rates and taxes on my current property is a fifth (less than a quarter) of what i paid in Cape Town for a house that is double the size of my apartment, alarm is a fraction of what they pay in Cape Town, I dont buy clothes because i dont have to keep up with styles and trends thats besides the fact that there are no "dress up" events to attend, i keep my hair short and am saving...my CT stylist would not believe it...what is the long hair for in a hot place like this when you've got nowhere to go,
no gym membership because i do a lot of walking, i love doing my own gardening its therapeutic, ive lost nothing and gained new skills from doing things myself and have reconnected with an old hobby which i now know holds the key to my purpose in life. From moving just 8hrs away from the pressures of city living, I found mySELF and am living, not just surviving, nothing matters when the Soul is alive and everything is in alignment.

That's the opposite of what im talking about. My post is about making adjustments and finding alternatives to moving to the Phillipines and Florida is not that. If you are going to talk about Florida you have compare that with Manila, Tagaytay etc in the Phillipines, im sure Florida's major centres with all their amenities will be equal or less.
There are towns in different states with mortgage repayments of between $500 and $600 on decent homes in decent neighbourhoods, I would imagine rental to be about the same, $600 is what they pay in the Phillipines. Going up to $800 and $900 in US those are stately homes. Thats the going rental for a not so stately home in the Phillipines provinces/outlying areas. $s for properties they dont own. Problems and misconceptions arise when you compare San Francisco, Manhattan, Miami, DC with Cebu, Dumaguete and Mandanao instead of Manila, Tagaytay and other matching cities.

You are probably right, if you live in Manila or Cebu. Not sure about smaller cities. Sometime, sit down and create a budget: rent, electricity (among the highest rates in SE Asia), internet, water and food (a big variable these days), travel costs. You'll probably find it's less than 1K for the basics. We live in a decent 3bdrm outside of the most populated areas of Cebu (god I hate big, noisy, crowded, polluted cities!). We are a family of 3, and eat mostly at home. Since public transportation is adequate here, no need to own a car, the AC buses run a regular schedule at the entrance of our gated community. If you must have an automobile, you need a couple hundred more, both for an emergency fund, and auto costs. The emergency fund, is in case you get into a wreck. Some guys I know here do okay with just a motorbike. 1K (assuming you're putting money aside, meaning you have at least 1.2-1.5K, should be more than enough, especially if you lean toward frugality). If you say you need 2-3K, what are you spending the extra dough on? A woman and family support? Constant travel? (who did that where you are originally from? Generally, we took a vacation once or twice a year. While some enjoy it, others find it tiring)? Going out to eat? (better to eat healthy at home, the local cuisine is less than dazzling to put it nicely).

I am confusedwhy are your monthly groceries more than your housing expense, it appears that you are very well off and have plenty of disposable income, which isn't the case with the average retiree, . Now Gary mentioned health insurance can you provide more information on private HI in the PI. For 2500 USD you can live good in tge US and mostly any country in the world.
You are exactly right, I think they have to pay a p*ssy premium, or are weak when it comes to saying no to their partner. Of course, it you go out to eat all the time, or travel a lot, then yes. Most retirees in the US do neither. They go out and travel occasionally. 1200-1500 is enough for most.

Generally speaking now, theres a price to pay for leaving your family and starting life afresh with a young man or woman with no work or business experience, who wants children, has no physical or intellectual resources to build on and no wisdom from UHK, the University of Hard Knocks. Raising a wife from a child bride or husband from a child groom must be a challenge.
This is not my understanding of retirement. My Venus conjunct the wise man Saturn in Taurus, I dont want to have to worry about the cost of living at retirement, I want to live.

Why should you pay for your Filipinas family?, that sounds like extortion, personally I wouldn’t do it, and I have a Filipina wife, I however have no problem with an occasional gift of food or something reasonable, but to outright support them no!

Totally depends on the lifestyle you want to live . Have heard many Filipina say they would be very happy and comfortable on a 1000 dollar budget with bf and 2 kids. My last two ldr attempts , both were more than happy at that budget and easy to do. You would be stupid to try without savings i agree, but i intend to own my own home with solar panels which will save a lot . Expats that spend huge amounts in an area full of other expats doing the same will only drive the price up of everything there. I feel sorry for the locals who get priced out when that happens. Idk man, the food cost is super subjective. I live in America, and for my family of three I've never spent more than $300/mo on groceries. I see ppl in the comments saying north of $1k/mo on food. What are you eating? Between us working and the kid in school nobody is even home to be buying all that food

Better to rent unless you're married foreigners can't own property only lease it's not a good idea if you're looking at it from that prospective.
