    Re taking part in the Olympic marathon at an advanced age, look up Jack Foster from New Zealand who only took up running at the age of 32 yet represented his country in two Olympic Games, finishing 17th at age 44 at Montreal in 1976.

      Definitely impressive, although he was a very good cyclist before he took up running. I'd say Rebecca Romero is more impressive as a Olympic medalist rower becoming an Olympic gold medalist in cycling. She started when she was around 25 which is obviously still pretty young but she was national champion in a year and an Olympic gold medalist 2 years after that.

    Yes he is older, but he also had the burden of running his last race while dealing with security issues and threats to his family. At that age, I can imagine it's more important to keep the head clear, as it easily destroys one's performance. But how can anyone block that out of their mind while competing. Hopefully, these sick people just disappear and leave him alone, so he can just can focus on racing his last few races. Let him be.

    Honestly, I know this is out there but, I think Kipchoge would have a solid shot at the 50k Road record set by CJ Albertson. I know the marathon and a 50k are two different animals but with Kipchoge’s insane endurance, speed, mental resolve and ability to just push when nobody else is could lead to a new record if he attempted the distance. Like I said I know it’s a bold claim but it’s just my personal opinion.

    Kipchoge's abs (3:01) and running form (1:19)
    What was that headband (3:13)
    My hope is that we'll see one more surge in the marathon career of Eliud. Maybe one, maybe two, but I think he still has some 2:01 type times in him (if not bumping up against Kiptum's time).
    What I am most excited about in Kipchoge's running future though is that he has said when his marathon career is over, he wants to move to the ultra marathon distance. I believe I've seen or read him saying that on two occasions but the specific niche of ultra was not mentioned.

    I think it is time to see Kipchoge running in Ultra Marathons or trail races. Nowadays everyone is there and these kind of competitions are becoming more and more popular each day. I would like to see him compete with Killian Jornette, for example; or Jim Walmsley. How about in UTMB courses? Competitional running should not be limited to road races for elite runners, I believe.

    • @cronikvialo5463
      @cronikvialo5463 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Trail running is a different animal. It requires specific adaptations, you need a long time to let your body adapt.
      First you have to adapt to the irregularity of the terrain, you must have strong ankles and good lateral stability, but also the massive hills and downhills that uses different muscles and running technique
      And i haven't even started on the ultra running aspect, it's not comparable to a marathon, it's 10x longer, muscle endurance and nutrition becomes a critical factor, your body also need to learn to get used to that. It's also a different kind of mental strenght
      Specificity is key, and at 39 i dont think Kipchoge have enough time to learn these new skills, especially for him who is fragile to hills and weather

    • @adyton
      @adyton 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cronikvialo5463 With respect, I don't totally agree with you. I have watched many training videos of Kipchoge in Kaplagat, Kenya. They run in groups so many long runs in forest paths, over hills etc. similar to trail running. And these runners all have background in cross country. Although I agree with you that road racing is different than ultra marathons and trail races, I think they will adapt the needs not in a long time.

    Likely impossible, my guy has become more of a celebrity than athlete which is very hard to balance in Running sports.

    I knew he was lean, but i never noticed how gigantic his abs are (thumbnail). Seems he's more than just lean. Can that come from running, does he train them specifically? Is there a benefit to a core that strong in distance running? I mean. Cyclists sorta lean on their arms all day and I don't see them having huge shoulders or triceps. It seems more than the muscle size you'd expect from endurance

    The lion on top of the hill isn’t as hungry as the lion climbing the hill. Translation: He's rich and happy.... plenty of younger Kenyans wanting to dethrone him.

    It's funny how just when a once a generation athlete is about to retire, suddenly a successor appears and take over. This time we were robbed of the successor to the throne (Kiptum). Perhaps there simply won't be a king for thie next generation.

      More than that! - he's been running since at least his teens, and maybe childhood - not necessarily competitively then yes, but still running.
      What a marvel he has been.
