If your saw only bevels to the right then cut your boards this way without changing the angle or bevel. Reverse this if it only bevels left.
Right-hand cut: Face down. Top against the fence. Board to the left of the blade.
Left-hand cut: Face up, bottom against the fence. Board on the right side of the blade.

I think you need a few corrections on your plans. The bevel for the top trim should be 37^, not 31.7^. Also, your cut list should have a note that those are final dimensions. I was expecting them to be rough dimensions and then cut down, but the cut list doesn't show rough cut. Luckily, I was able to precisely cut and didn't have to recut anything. Finally, a few of the final trim dimensions were long - that could be due to the error in the angle. However, these were easy to make and I sold them for $55 each at a local craft show. Thanks!

OMG! you can't believe how helpful this is to me right now. A catering company needs 20 chafer surrounds that collapse by the first of Oct. I really couldn't come up with how I would do this. The box tree surround you just showed is EXACTLY what I need. Going to etsy right now and getting those plans...so cool.

I'm looking forward to starting this venture!

I use vintage aqua stain on the pickets, rub it off and then dry brush aqua paint over that. Then, take black spray paint and fog the top edges. Finish it off with a good coat of polyacrylic.

At the end of this video, you talking about sharing information and not being greedy was so good to hear. Not to long ago at least in America and probably the rest of the world the majority of people thought like that. And society was much better off because of it. In the same way you didn't see price gouging in emergency situations like we did see during COVID-19. And the few that did do it were punished for it either by arrest if they drew attention of authorities or by the community by excluding them by not doing business with them anymore. If you are a hermit you can live without caring about what people thought of you but most of don't live like that. We are a part of a society and when we work together and establish a reputation for fair play everyone benefits. In the long run of life making smaller profits from each sale leads to a more secure life for the whole society. I hope other people pick up on how important of a message you just sent. Thank you

I have a small suggestion/what if...could you make this in a way that it could double as a storage bin itself. Instead of it breaking down for storage, what if it was built in such a way you could store Christmas tree ornaments in the off season, like a fancy box?

    • @Marjax
      @Marjax ปีที่แล้ว +11

Those farm house planters from before are good for that. Otherwise it'd be putting in a corner vs a hinge and measuring the area of the lower opening and making a panel. 😸

Hey! I’m a new wood worker. Literally, just starting out. I watch your videos frequently, yet haven’t attempted to build yet. I went out and bought some power tools, Miter Saw and Table Saw specifically as I own a wide variety of tools after nearly thirty years in the Plumbing industry. With that said, for us new guys, could you do a quick “how-to” video on how to use the two tools mentioned above, as well as some safety guidelines to follow? I know there are multiple uses for each tool, but maybe just the basics? And yes, I know to keep my hand and fingers out of the way…😂😂😂 Thanks for your time and keep up the great work.

Another cool build Matthew, you are the best at describing these things. Another thing that could be done to these is to apply an a old time (yesteryear) burnt look. The other thing that I think that would be cool is, install rgb led strip inside the box, I think this would give a shadow box effect and probably would make the installed tree look much better. I always look forward to your videos, some of the things are not for me, but the techniques everyone could use. God bless

I like the build and want to make some. You have the nicest fence pickets, all i find at Lowe's is the furriest crooked pickets I've ever seen. They make yours look like premium pine plank

I'm going to make these and sell. I've been making cedar picket jack olanterns and selling them like crazy at a local feed store. Thanks

That’s awesome! Keep it up. This time of year people tend to spend quite a bit on decor.

How did I almost miss you penciling onto your miter saw for a quick repeatable cut?! Nice trick.

Hopeless lost. Double checked my saw for square fence and miters. Everything was fine. However now at the end, nothing lines up or looks right. Can’t get the sides square to attach the hinges. I have a feeling the bevels are wrong but can’t tell from the video or the plans. Any advice?

Thank you so much! I love this! I'm going to make one for myself as a test. I'm also very intrigued about the dome over your miter saw for dust. Please do tell more on that!

I’m confused on what type of fence pickets these are and how they’re so cheap. They looks smooth, like nice quality boards. Although at all the stores around me I’m paying 4$ for a really rough fence picket.

I could see you selling these to Christmas tree seasonal sellers to help them make extra money for point of sale. What does everyone think as to the number of size choices and what you should sell them for to Christmas tree sellers and how much to the consumer?

This might seem kind of on the nose, but what about using magnets instead of the slip pin hinges. Just unfold and they snap in place. Just an idea I may be wrong, correct me if I am please, still learning. Great video and gift idea definitely will try building some

Hi from across the pond, been watching your videos a while now, very informative & you share some good stuff that will make money.
I noticed at 2 : 01 when you took three wrap apart, it didnt look like you had "treated" the inside.
Speaking from experience, if you paint/varnish one side of wood, if you dont treat the other side, in time the wood will "warp".
I would assume you are aware of this, but some of your viewers may not be, I think it could be worth informing them of this.
Please keep the "money making" videos coming, especially the "smalls".
    Thanks again for sharing.
