It’s fiction insofar as the physical events are depicted interpretively. And it’s “true” because it’s (told) (witnessed) (attested) by a narrator who’s omniscience can’t be questioned.

I too find it hard to be proud of what ive just watched, after all (whatever the Zulus previous behaviour)it was their country and seeing men armed with spears mowed down by artillery and machine guns isnt war it is murder. Doubtless the ancient Britons had a similar experience when the Roman empire halped itself to what is now England!
The Zulus were invaders and imperialists themselves. The land was up for grabs.
