  • After a night of pure terror, we arrive on Catalina Island. This couldn't have been a more welcome sight, a complete contrast to our last 12 hours . We have arrived in a true paradise and it's time to celebrate!!

Imagine two or three hundred years ago tying up a giant sailboat and just going ashore it's easy to walk around there easy to walk

Just gorgeous. Never been but seen other cruisers go to Catalina. IP38 is a beautiful boat. In a future episode would love to hear your top 5 likes and dislikes (if you can find that many). You’ve done the hard part at this point. You made it look easy but I know you’ve planned for it. Observations making the Pacific Northwest to Mexico is another episode suggestion. Thanks for sharing!

Hundreds of years ago imagine going there the terrain is about the same it's easy to tie up your boat and take a small boat ashore

A welcome rest stop from the terror night of the lightning storm. I really enjoy the drone footage. Lovely boat, even when under engine it all seems smooth and not too intrusive from a noise perspective. What rpm to you generally find the 'sweet spot ' for motoring and what does that equate to in SOW ? Some of your previous videos showed the arrival , marina berthing etc which always helps the viewer arrive with you, and learn a few tips from you too 👍. Best of luck and some great footage, thanks for sharing. 👍

I'm glad you don't find the motor noise too over powering to the rest of the audio. I struggle with that. We usually power at 2200-2500 RPM trying to sustain at least 5kts. 5kts is what I assume as an average when planning our next leg. As for the camera shots, I find it really hard filming everything. Tanya is not interested in the filming process so that just leaves me to shoot and captain the boat but I get it, its not for everyone. Thanks for your comments, I appreciate your feedback. Keep em coming!

Do you guys think the IP 38 is big enough for FT cruising? If you had a do over would you go smaller? bigger?

This boat is actually perfect for a cruising couple, I wouldn't change a thing. Of course bigger would be nice but its really not needed. Now, if you have a family, the 38 might be a little tight.

Do people always mention a wind generator you can even build one before you leave

The terrain is good for pedestrians it's not like a bulldozer came and flattened it it's just good to walk naturally

never ever trust a mooring ball many a boat has been lost or damaged due to trusting these try to dive a nd check it out if not send a waterproof camera down to at least check some of it

I've always had my doubts but so far we've been lucky. Good tips on the waterproof camera!!

since the last text I've seen a add for this plastic pyramid shape mooring device that you throw from the boat and lower a bright light with waterproof camera attached where you can check out the moorings or if anchoring know what the bottom looks like, you leave the pyramid floating tied off to the anchor chain and you can set it in 5mt and onwards for an alarm to alert you to anchor moving
