    I have a couple suggestions that might save you some time on jobs like this:
    1) For the first operation, rough cutting to length - use your tail stock as a stop and lock your carriage into place. Then just feed material through the chuck after each cut-off. There's no need to move the carriage back and forth to measure lengths. Install your drill chuck in the tail stock with a short piece of drill rod as a stop.
    2) Make an internal stop for your spindle. It will save you a lot of time measuring and improve accuracy. There are numerous ways of making a spindle stop. The easiest may be a collet nut that threats on the back side of your spindle with a central hole to accept a piece of drill rod and a set screw to lock it in place.

    another great video !
    a plug inside the head shaft would help with the position of the part
    but as you said a fast non repetitive job don't need much set-up

    Nice job. At first I was wondering why you didn't use a 5C collet and decided that without a speed collet closer it would probably take you longer to get the job done. Well done and I look forward to your next video.

      Very lucky that my 3 jaw is really good , I do have ER32 chucks but this job did not need more than the 3jaw offers , Cheers Ade.

    Nice, I’m subscribing !
    Ii would have made a 16mm thick ring to make the stickout setting easier, especially if this job is recurring.

    I think any suggestions. I could make you have countered or answered in the other comments, the parts look very similar to Mig welding tips Lol 3.8mm wire now that would need a plug upgrade

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mig with 3.8 wire . yes a bigger power supply would be needed, much bigger , very similar looking , but they are gas jets for an inverter generator LPG conversion to make it dual fuel , make your own mig tips would make a good vid , Cheers Ade.

    Hi Ade,
    You could do with a er32 collet chuck, less worry about runout.
    I had to make 8 spacers 12mm diameter and 5mm long for prototype job.
    Tolerance of 10 Microns in length, it took a while measuring with a mic, the collet chuck paid for it's self
    I always thought it was spelt Rohm ?

      Hi Adam , I actually have 2 ER32 collet chucks , one on an mt3 that fits my spindle and a chuck type that i made in a past video , this job was ok in a 3 jaw and i am very lucky that mine runs really well, Cheers Ade. Yes i think it is Rohm ,

    Great videos Ade, informative and to the point. Question on your lathe next to and above your chuck is, what appears to be a stationary shaft, what is it"s function ? Thank you and cheers from Milo, Maine, U.S.A. .

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the pivot shaft from what was the chuck guard , removed on the day of purchase, health and safety police need it to be sold in uk , it is interlocked to the start and when the guard was up i could not start the lathe , i should remove it but i am thinking that one day i might have a use for it , not thought about it yet but you have reminded me to think about a practical use for it , Cheers Ade.
