  • 1989 to 1991 to some was the pinnacle of the C4 Corvettes. Fast, old school engine, and new technology. This is one of them.
    This 1990 Corvette is owned by my friend Andy. It makes 245hp and 345lbs torque. It's a 4 speed automatic. It was a blast to drive.
    If you're interested in inquiring about the car, email andy at
    AndystuntsYT@yahoo.com
    It's a very solid car. No issues with it mechanically at all. Definetley a good time and worth looking at if you are looking to buy a C4 Corvette.

    89 was the first year of the 6 speed transmission but it had the L98, older nose and tail and older interior style.
    90 had the newer style interior but was otherwise the same as the 89.
    91 had the newer interior and newer nose and tail but was the last year of the L98.
    personally 89-90 are the sweet spot in C4 corvettes.

  • @3dvorator

    i agree with the opticrap description but ,GM had it redesigned to partially solve the moisture build up.They went in 95 with an upgraded vented unit to prevent the moisture build up inside the opti.The redesign was actually a nice improvement .With a new fitting they added fresh air from the intake air filter box creating a positive pressure inside the opti,at the same time, another output fitting allowed a tube to vacuum air using the negative pressure produced by the intake system (eight cylinders create vacuum while moving down).Plasma gasses are produced inside the opti by sparks when the rotor hits the spark wire terminals.Moisture and plasma gasses mix together creating an acid environment that destroy the optical sensor made by Mitsubishi.The new ventilation system while remove moisture and gasses keep it dry and fresh,a huge improvement over the previous non-vented unit...

    Your info is a little off about the 89 corvette. It still has the same interior as the 84 85 86 87 88. No air bag. The 89 also still had a mass airflow sensor. The 90 and 91 doesn't. That's why the corvette u are reviewing has the clamp on K&N air filter mounted on the the throttle body. I like the 90 the best too. It has the old school lines with the updated interior. The 91 looks like the lt1 but has the old reliable l98. U change the intake to a mini ram setup and it will make 300 hp like the LT1. The cool looking intake runners make gobs of torque but not hp like a mini ram or lt1 I take does.

    I picked up a 1990 convertible 6 apeed with low miles a few years ago and with some minor modifications and old fashioned hot rodding got it down to 13.0 @107 1/4 mile time with a 2.2s 60'. This is with the TPI and it's 100% reliable (after maintenance/sorting) and gets 30 MPG on the highway. I'm very pleased with mine. These were the Corvettes when I was young (along with the C3) so I had some unfinished business with them. With the torque down low it feels like a 12s car whenever you drive it around town, unlike my new Camaro which comes alive only at higher revs and feels like a Camry down low.

    Many years ago when I got back into C4 vettes I came to the same conclusion that the '89-91's were the best for me. And out of those years the "most" C4 of them has to be the '89 with the Atari dash which in the day made this car the coolest on the road. I talked my brother into getting a '89 4a roadster and he loves it. I have a '90 roadster 6m/fx3 that's not too common. My main criteria for my ideal C4 cost no object was the 6m, gen1 SBC, and the old body style leaving only 2 years for me to choose from. I've had mine for many years and still love it and haven't gotten tired of it at all which I tend to do. It's a total hooligan car for sure,

    My first job out of high school was in the shine shop of the Chevy dealer my uncle sold for. I used to detail the bosses demo every Friday. I fell in love with C4s. My uncle and I went on the caravan to the opening of the museum in his new 94 6 spd coupe. My current Vette is a 90 coupe: red on grey int., auto, no ride control, 307 “sport perf” rear axle, and 68k miles. The 90 is a one year only car, very cool and a ton of fun to work on and drive. If your into Corvettes this is a great one!

    The engines are bullet proof, I have had several LT1 cars, my first one I bought with 80k miles, and beat it down as a 21yo kid would, for 6 years, sprayed with nitrous, put a cam in it, and never pulled the heads. Sold it with 170K miles, and it didnt smoke, never had an opti fail, and it was still being sprayed with a bottle of nitrous through it every week, never less than a 150 shot. I have an LS1 with 197K miles on it now, and its driven every day, and every day to the rev limiter. Your issue with miles is nonsense. LT1 Optisparks can be changed in less than 45 min, and 15 years, 10 LT1 cars from non vented to vented optis and had ONE fail, ONE. The Opti problem was blown out of proportion. If you have on fail, replace it with a new DELCO unit, and you wont have an issue. A fast shifting 700R4/4L60? Boss you havent driven many cars man. Im glad your a fan, but some of your information is internet garbage, not actual issues.

    • @U2Jaime1317
      @U2Jaime1317 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are no such things as new ac delco opti sparks. Everything made (even if they promote it as new) is a remanufactured unit that doesnt use the same Mitsubishi sensor that the OEM one has. The only "new" opti toucan buy is that expensive msd one, where even that has a good failure rate.

    Cool video - Opti is not the worst thing ever. It does hide behind the water pump but getting it wet won't necessarily kill it. If it does, you need to service it! OptiSpark actually times the spark much more accurately and is one of the reasons the LT1 can have 10.5:1 compression prior to COP ignition. Mine has 230,000 and runs like new. The weep-hole is there to warn of in impending seal failure. Water should not ever come out of there unless there is a problem. Love that '90 though! Thanks for the vid.

  • @nineelevener
    @nineelevener 7 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    Hey Jim, before you deem any one C4 "the best", you must get your hands on a C4 ZR-1. That car had the LT5 engine developed in conjunction with Lotus of England. It is a DOHC engine that develops, depending on the year, 380 to 405 HP with gobs of torque. (The 93-95 cars had 405 HP). There were only around 6000 of these made before production ended in with the '95 model, but I really think you should try to drive one. They were expensive when new--$65K to $70--but they have not retained their value all that well because people are afraid of their semi-exotic engine. I've owned three of them since 1990, and I currently have a '95 that I bought two years ago with 1800 miles (yes, eighteen hundred) at that time. I also bought one used in 2011 with less than 50K miles on it for around $14K. That was a sweet buy, and my godson, who has owned it now for several years is enjoying trouble-free use for almost daily driving. The C4 ZR-1 is solid--bullet-proof--in every way. You have a good knowledge of Corvettes. I can tell this from your videos which I faithfully watch. You must round out your knowledge of the C4 by driving a C4 ZR-1. A group called the Wazoo club in your neck of the woods is devoted to this car. You should try to contact one of its members for a driving possibility. Just offer to do them a video on the car and see what happens. I think if you can get behind the wheel you'll be duly impressed. Your '96 is really nice, but I have a feeling you'll want a '95 ZR-1 for a similar dollar currently. They will ultimately start to appreciate in value because of their unique qualities and limited production, but for right now they're a steal. By the way, they were only made with the six-speed like yours.

    I have a 85 C4 corvette. It's got the tune port 350 5.7 Chevy V8 it's pretty quick I had it rebuilt bored over bigger crank thumper cam Pete Jackson noisy gear drives. Race chip n computer hooker headers glass pack exhaust. It's same color as this one it's red n black. The inside is black and red as well all digital ect.. it came with the bose system but I changed all that out and kept it ect so when I sale it the new owner can return it to stock. I kept all the stock parts for it.. it's a super clean vette it's loud it's really quick it is twin turbo now since I had the engine rebuilt and beefed up.. it runs high 8s low 9s but I put alot of cash into it.. and yeah they shift really quickly for a automatic they was underestimated for a long time until you drove it lol they are quick and was supposed to be the fastest cars in the world back then. I have 3 vettes and my 85 that's built up came from my grandfather that bought it new. And when he gave it to me for my graduation present in 06 I just built it up.. and now it's a demon lol.. same factory V8 just been modified heavily as for the rims I put brand new vette rims and tires on it but I kept the C4 look... so when people try to race me and say the C4 is a slow muscle / super car from the 80s.. they get their feeling hurt by it when they can't even come close to keeping up with it. My grandfather has the brand new vette he got it about a week ago and omg.. those are serious fast cars stock.. but I'm happy with my C4 and C6 and my old 1950s model vette. That I'm building up I have a 502 ram jet going under it's hood.. I grew up to corvettes camaro and transam and lambos my whole life. I have a 06 Gallardo as well but it needs work I got it for 53k it just needs a front bumber it's been rebuilt as well the whole car and it cost a small fortune which imma resale it and buy a hurrican I got my eye on my wife's brothers white hurrican he is saling. We got the cash for it but if I buy it now it will put us in a hard spot so imma sale my C5 and my Gallardo to get it. But anyways c4 vettes are amazing cars they ride horrible I dunno why but they do really stiff. But they are quick and easy to work on

    Didn't they redo the design for the Optispark in 1994? Is it only slightly safer after that year or is the water/evap issue completely fixed? Was thinking of going after either a 1989 C4 (that retro instrument display is sick) or a 1994-96 at some point.

    question is the sun roof shattered ,, or why does it look like that

    • @R6_Arel
      @R6_Arel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The roof is made of some type of glass, maybe like a plexiglass. The heat from the sun makes the top of the glass look that way, but if you feel it, it isn't cracked. Mine has the same effect more or less.

    I paid 15k for my torch red '96 LT4 with 62k. The week spot in the appearance of those around the '90 to me is the location of that extra brake light at the top of the hatchback. It just ruins the profile of the vehicle to me as it sticks out like a sore thumb. I like where it is located on my '96 on the back end but have wondered just what purpose it serves located there as it is only slightly higher than the regular tail lights.......lol

    • @dukeman7595
      @dukeman7595 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 85 had only 190 h.p what a dog, and the 4+3 was troublesome. This is why I have manual only
      vettes. They produce more power because they are direct drive to the wheels, and a whole lot more fun to drive,

    • @dukeman7595
      @dukeman7595 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 700r4 auto is really a weak transmission compared to the 350 which is nearly bullet proof if maintained , also GM used the 700 r in just about all their light 1/2 ton trucks which didn't hold up if run hard.

    No, an Opti C4 will NOT "shut itself off in the rain". I have an LT-4 and I've driven it in the rain. No big deal. The Opti on my car has 100,000 miles and it runs fine. Try that with an HEI on the L98....

    I have an '89 with the exact same exhaust as his... Also the '89 does not have the updated interior nor airbags, It's '90+. Also the exhaust has a muffler built in, it's not just tips. If it was just tips it would be loud af, go take off your exhaust and see how loud they get it's hilarious.

      My Vette has been in my family since my father bought it new and sold it to me. It has 33,000 miles, original paint and always has been garaged. I drive it in the spring and summer months, weather permitting. Hopefully one day it will be given to my son. These cars are a blast to drive especially the six speed.

      LT1 if you plan on modifying it, there's only 6000 LT5 and 7000 LT4 cars out there those are some crazy low production numbers it would be a shame to molest it with after market parts. Just putting headers on can cause a chain reaction of shit breaking due to extra heat under the hood, wiring harness's get cooked and start causing electrical problems that damage the computer and burn out the gages, gaskets will dry out and oil will start to leak onto other things which causes even more problems before you know it every rubber hose,wire, gasket goes bad and turns the car into a shit box with to many problems to fix so it winds up just sitting there and rots away which would be a shame for a rare car.
