    Thanks, having a 90 with an auto sure isn't like the Z51 6 speed. But more of a cruiser. New shocks, tires, and countless servicing for a 33-year-old. As with any car that age, even with low mileage. The fun is still there. It's not the fastest or easiest car to get in or out of. But of all the cars I' ve owned It's so different. Hard to explain. It's a good handling car. Brakes are so-so. Speed is not the thing. But highway manners are where it shines. Funny I traded a C5 for a 370Z, and the Z was way better handling, brakes were good, not an LS engine but just enough to get you moving at a nice clip with some small mods. As for a cheaper C4 these days why not. It doesn't need to be a C8 to be fun. Thanks again for this blast from the past! CHEERS

    I have the same C4. So nice to see a review of "my" car! This review was very on point too. Most of these cars now require some TLC and are enjoyable to work on (most of the time), but are an excellent value at getting one into the Corvette hobby.

    Nice! Hope you do the 300zx! And living here in the Bay Area we are spoiled with Sears, Thunderhill, and great roads like those around Berryessa.

    I have a 1991 6speed with 39000 miles . Lot of torque quick enough to have fun and get 30 mpg on the highway

    Once you level your audio in the car up a level. And balance the sound for headphone, making the voice more present in the sound. You'll absolutely kill it. Every thing I have watched from you has been gold. (Helmet with the car in 8/10, non helmet 6/10)

    RE f/r brake bias; Doug Rippie master cylinder spring. imho DRM is the Guru on these cars and the Corvette Challenge series. Fun fact; The C4 decimated everything in SCCA showroom stock for 3 or 4 years straight until the SCCA would no longer let them compete. That is why the Corvette Challenge Series was born. Vids of the race are still on youtube.

    • @newoldcars
      @newoldcars  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yep! I still have a spare DRM bias spring sitting in the garage (for the next C4 track car, of course). And I've watched those Challenge videos religiously. Their domination in SCCA was no joke

    Fantastic video. I owned a 1996 LT4 because I wanted the extra RPM. Unfortunately I was unable to find one with performance suspension so I had base FE1. In reality the best C4 would either be a 1995 ZR-1 or a 1996 LT4 car maybe with Z51/Z07 suspension. I upgraded to a C5 FRC with Z51 and it is *chefs kiss* on track.

    • @newoldcars
      @newoldcars  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! Love the LT4. I'm always low-key in the market for one, but only if it's spec'd right.
      An LT4 with the factory Z51 package would be the best platform to build on a C4 racecar. Springs are a little soft on the '96, but they can be swapped out
      As optimal as the 1988-1990 Z51 cars are (for their suspension) that would mean settling for the L98. It's definitely worth going the route of the more reliable LT4
      C4 ZR-1's make fantastic street machines but are just too heavy for the track, and not much faster than an LT4 around a circuit (if at all, might even be slower? Hmm .... that would actually make a great video... )

      @@newoldcars Fully agree. I love the C4 and always will and as a kid I HATED the C5. I thought it looked like a boring bar of soap. In my 30's though I have learned to love the C5, especially the Hardtop with factory Z51. I have slung mine around Mid-Ohio and VIR and I cannot tell you what a pleasure it is to drive on-track. It responds to your thoughts in ways my C4 never could, and the chassis is incredibly rigid, so much so that it was basically re-used for C6. To me, looking back, the C4 was just more of a GT car while the C5 is really what you want for track driving. You can't get the 80's vibe with the C5 but it is PURE 90's at its core. Remember design work started in 1988 and it was supposed to debut for 1993 but was pushed back four model years due to budgeting (I'm reading "All Corvettes Are Red" at the moment). Definitely give a 2001+ C5 Z51 a look as well for a track build unless you're super set on a C4, they are fantastic packages. At the end of the day, after owning my LT4 for six years, I realized that the chassis was just inherently compromised and no amount of horsepower was going to help overcome that. The C5 fixed it and is now horsepower-limited rather than chassis-limited.

Also there was a certain way of delivering the information. Watch old motorweek episodes to see what I mean. But this is awesome stuff man! And the stig outfits? Broooo you got it down!!! I thought that Z51 and FX3 were separate options but I guess you could combine them? 🤔

    • @newoldcars
      @newoldcars  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Buyers could only get FX3 on the Z51. But not all Z51 cars had FX3. FX3 was only an option for Z51 cars (not the base model), as FX3 was only engineered for Z51 cars 👍

  • @grabir01

    The reason you are only 2 turns lock to lock is because of the limited space for the front wheels to turn which is about 30 degrees. Can you say 3 point turn arounds or not able to turn around on your local cul desack? lol

    • @varmastiko2908
      @varmastiko2908 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're right about the turning circle but not about the quick rack steering. The 2 turns lock to lock only applies to the Z51 package. Regular C4 is 2.75 turns lock to lock. The turning circle is the same, the performance pack simply makes the steering quicker.

    • @gordocarbo
      @gordocarbo 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@varmastiko2908 had an 88 and 9 Z52 the steering rack was super quick. ANyone know the ratio on those

    How hot do these Vettes run? JW bc it seems like a lot of sports cars that are “bottom feeders”(no grill) run hot when pushed or when stuck in traffic

    • @newoldcars
      @newoldcars  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Temperature was never an issue. Remember, these share the same cooling systems as the Challenge race cars (essentially Showroom Stock). This car handled a full track day (6 sessions, bone stock) with no issues. The same cannot be said for most cars we've tested. Bottom-feed cooling system is not a problem when designed right. See the Thunderbird video for an example of an inadequate bottom-feed system
