I got this game on the mega drive as a kid on holiday, spent all my holiday money on he his piece of shit.
But it's a reasonably rare game you know? Sega had to pull it from the market after three months as they didn't actually have the rights they thought they had to it.
But I did read a few articles on why it was so bad and TL;DR it was a rush job because of a tight deadline.
No idea why infogrames got the job though, they couldn't make platformers to save their life. Ever play Tintin on the moon? Eugh. All Sega had to do is give them a copy of castle of illusion and say "do this"
Dat music on the intro of Tintin on the moon though... pure bliss
I personally have the Japanese-version of the game, which aside instruction manual written in symbols, is identical to PAL-version (yes, music is indeed also "PALfied", which actually "corrects" some of the songs unnessarily sped-up in NTSC-version).
((Yes, I have Mega Drive with "the corners" chipped off, in case you wonder; such was the joy of having a (not much anymore) tech-savvy mother back then.))
Makes one wonder what the game would have been if it was developed by Virgin Interactive (sad Titus had to give the "final kill-shot" for Virgin...)
infrogrames was probably cheaper
Have no fear, Mike, exactly 1 year from today, Fantasia will be 75 years old, making it, officially, public domain. As such, you'll be able to put as much of it online as you like and Disney can't do a thing to stop you.
What about the Kingdom Hearts dream Drop Distance Fantasia level that was a really good adaptation of the source material
Cool references, KH "Nobody" symbol the shirt, the Frozen 8 or 16 bit soundtrack.... and the last minute payback, " you still owe me 10k for my ruff" LOL
Apparently one of the developers said that the game needed more development to tweak game mechanics. Doesn't surprise me...
Hey, thanks for using our cover! It's good to know it was appreciated.
Thanks for allowing us to use it. =)
Really digging the "where it could have gone" segment. Would love to see more like that! Quality content as always.
When they "showed" the clips from fantasia i laughed when they just filmed a broom falling down...
Man... the Genesis really takes an absolute weedwhacker to the classics of Fantasia's incredible soundtrack selection. Yuck. >:C
I look forward to your next review...~
The Genesis soundchip is pretty interesting. You have to try really hard to make something good sounding come out of it, but when you do you get things like Ice Cap Zone.
And here I thought I wouldn't get "Let it Go" out of my head. Damn you Andrew! :P
Kind of sucks how you can't use any copyright clips despite fair use says you can.
Corporations: WE DON'T GIVE A SHIT!
Shouldn't this movie be in the public domain at this point?:/ I mean it's 75 years old guys so really IDK what you guys are worrying about with Fantasia getting you potentially a "strike".
(I am just saying unless Disney has been extending it then they can't do shit at this point to stop you guys.:/ Sure they could flag the video for reviewing the movie but then they would be ignoring the U.S Copyright Law System. Oh wait this is TH-cam even stuff in the public domain could get you a strike despite the fact that certain things are in the public domain!! -_-
(I mean seriously if a big company was this stupid they probably think classical music can get you a copyright strike despite the fact that a lot of those songs are in the Public Domain.)
I mean for companies this is something they should know it's basic Copyright knowing but yet they don't because they don't care to pay attention. You know honestly I hope TH-cam can realize this and fixes it because if not maybe someone else or me may lawsuit them to get off their asses and pay attention to these false Copyright Infringement strikes that bigger companies are doing to the TH-camrs.)
Although I have to ask why would big companies take down videos about their products getting reviewed? What the big companies are doing is illegal because reviews are 100% fair use according to the Copyright Law of the U.S for my country at least.:/ And if anything the company that would be doing that is just making a ass out of themselves by doing that. So why do it then?
(Makes 0 Sense to me even if I looked at it in a business perspective.-_- You get no benefit from taking down reviews you just piss off people by doing that do these big companies not realize that?)
Because you have to protect your profits? What do you need to protect them for if anything positive reviews advertise your own damn products yet even if they were positive you're still gonna take down certain reviews because they used footage of your own films?(I am referring to companies like Viacom,Fox,Disney, and so on.:/)
That's just being ridiculous and in a way dick ish Big Companies.-_-
Okay asides my whole rant about this Copyright B.S Problem on TH-cam this was overall a great review.:) I have personality watched the film today and it's a fantastic film IMO.:) Definitely recommend it to people who love Disney and Animation in general.
Super Gamer61499 tl;dr?
I freaking love your show. It's informative, heartwarming, and hilarious. Please continue Electronic Heroes!
after hobbit PS2 he didn't
the Night on Bald Mountain music was done waaaaay better in Earthworm Jim!
Yeah, this game is definitely not one of Infogrames' finest. It's a damn shame, too, considering they've made WAY better games, like the Smurfs.
These are amazing. Keep up the great work!
OK i've been watching your videos since you Megaman 1 retrospective and i just need to say this; your intro is fucking sweet man
am I the only one that liked "Night on fart mountain"?
I'm gonna be such a cool ass hipster when people ask me, "hey have you heard of this Andrew Dickman guy? He's awesome and super youtube famous!" And I'll say "I knew about that guy way back in his early days, before he did the white house correspondence dinner, I was watching his stuff even before E-Heroes took over the Game of Thrones tv slot. He was cooler when he was underground"
3:22-4:29 ...OMG this was THE BEST...Uummm...THING evArrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????!!!!!!!!!
I want your duck hunt pillows...
Music game that could do Fantasia justice? For me it´s obvious. Rayman Legends music levels. Those at the end of each world. Imagine that. Ofcurse you whould need some slow moments when you don´t have to run or speed trought all the time. BUT for example in the Dinosaur part when the three fingred T-rex (Just so you know) appears, that is when you have to run as fast as you can. Imagine Bold Mountain like a Rayman Legends level. Cracy! Ubisoft make a Disney game. And I hope capcom will do more Remaster game.
Music based game?
How about Tadpole Treble?
I could see Fantasia being done like that.
Well that was fun!
You do realize that Fantasia is probably in the public domain right?
Awesome Review!
Now, whenever a video is down, I going to blame it on the youtube copyright claim robot! Damn you corporate cog of the system!
What! This game was released in 1991 and Finding Nemo was Released in 2003. So those fish in stage 1 weren’t any cameos.
I've completed this game, and I have no regrets.
Well, you sure cleverly circumvented those copyright laws.
That's showing that nasty, ol' robot!
@11:28 Have you heard Hitoshi Sakimoto's work on the Sega Genesis?
Dat NoBody shirt
Also I forgot to donate through your Patreon. . .
I'll go do that now
OMG I WANT THOSE NES CART PILLOWS!
oh, I just noticed this the second time watching this video, you used pony figures in your fantasia reenactment.
The game is selling on Amazon.com for $144.29... is it worth that much???
3:22 Words can't express how much I laughed and enjoyed this part! Such a masterpiece~ >u
Andrew, this is AWESOME!!!!
The AVGN has taught us to never buy anything that comes from LJN.
The Joueur du Grenier has taught us to never buy anything that comes from Infogrames (which, by the way, is not a word on the English dictionary, that would be "infography").
As a collector you must always keep this in mind to avoid buying a bad game..... unless you want to review it, since for some reason EVERYBODY likes to pick on bad games :D
But Infogrames was involved with the Oddworld games.
Really? I had no idea. So they made a good game after all?
10:58 is the best of a bad bunch for music
Saw NiGHTS in that group shot.
Yes good. Subscribed.
How did they add Nemo and Dory 12 years before Finding Nemo?
3:21 - I didn't think you could improve what was already perfect but here it is before my eyes, I guess Ponies really do make everything better :3.
I kinda like 'the Sorcerer's Appren-Dump in the pants' XD It's got a nice beat.
My second game ever was aladdin for the genesis. I was very surprised to learn how different the SNES version was and how I was effectively gyped as a result.
So if it was the same developers, yes they *are* to blame.
careful, your letting out your walken impression
What music is playing near the end of the discussion?
This channel needs more subscribers the into alone is amazing to watch
Man, your videos are getting better and better!
Eh. Finally found that game i've played when i was 6.
From which game is the music starting on 7:09 ?
Great review
you're using Quackshot music 7:15
I always dig these reviews. Very well put together
Good
NIce work at avoiding the TH-cam copyright censorship, lol!
About Fantasia on Genesis/Mega Drive... Yeah, I remember back in the day some videogame magazines in my country posting preview screenshots and stupidly stating that this would be the "spiritual successor" of Castle of Illusion... And when I rented this crap for the first time, I couldn't figure out how broken was the gameplay, at first I thought the game was painfully hard.
You would think with the amazing Quality Control that Disney has that they would have paid closer attention this game. That soundtrack has to be the worst midi files ever processed through a Sega Console.
And a big A+ on the AAA Special Effects :) You have a gift Andy. Can I call you Andy? I knew an Andy in high school. He couldn't draw, he just had a truck.
Okay, you guys NEED to do a fully sweded version of Fantasia. I would buy the shit out of that. XD
Boo! Boo Copyright bullshit! BOO! Regardless, nice workaround. Another enjoyable video man, just discovered your stuff earlier this week and glad to be a subber.
I like how your bashing the sheer atrociousness of the game for most of the video and then your giving a truly heartfelt discussion about WHY the game turned out so bad. The fact you actually put some heart and empathy into the subject matter is definitely unique among other vids like this.
Talked about how bad the game was, especially the music, but still gave it some kind of positive discussion at the end?? You sir, deserve my like...also cause I saw my name on there too.
Well but Infogrames is the studio of Alone in The Dark(the first survival horror in 3d)and Eye of The Beholder ;)
Where did you get those couch pillows, AWD!?
I've seen those on ThinkGeek
I wouldn't worry too much. There were a lot of video game references to Fantasia afterward that made up for this atrocity. My favorite is the demon fight in Kingdom Hearts.
My favorite Disney video game is Kingdom Hearts Birth by sleep
Hope Michael is doing okay, wherever he is today since he hasn't uploaded on his channel for over 6 year.
man, to think I got my genesis back in the day just because of the screenshots of this game that were published in a magazine
This is cooler
These two would later do a podcast version of Animated Anarchy.
Dat ending doe
Another thing, the movie was based around music, so the music notes make sense
Also, the movie was released in theaters in 1940, not 1990, which again, probably means its in the public domain
Nintendo is incredibly litigious when it comes to Public Domain, they have fought to keep all their animation from becoming public domain by heavily lobbying to have it extended. Steamboat Willie was released in 1928 and it's still not Public Domain. Morale of the story, best not to trifle with Disney's army of lawyers or TH-cam's copyright robots...
Nintendo? You mean Sega
I actually meant Disney hahaha.
Eric Brady *re-release
Re-Release?
Will we ever see that green bitbug from you're galaga video ever again?
The credits song...... OMG ITS EARAPE!!! frozen music and genesis sounds do not match.
You're stupidity is over the charts!
1. The 8-Bit cover is really good.
2. It's not Genesis sound effects, it's 8-Bit. And not that GXSCC crap.
Maybe your funniest video yet. Night on Fart Mountain made me choke on my soda! Keep up these awesome vids, Dickman, you're an inspiration!
Andrew Dickman Excellent and funny video especially the part with your toys re enacting the scenes from Fantasia but if you had Barbie dolls or even Equestria Girls dolls you should take their clothes off and tie them up with strings to make them fly in order to re enact the scenes the naked fairies from the Nutcracker Suite and speaking of naked fairies you only have to kill one in the first stage the one that takes you to that useless underwater level the other naked fairies takes you to places that you actually need to go and I know this because I have this sad game on an emulator and even with cheat codes it is still a pain to play this broken game and what makes even sadder is that Fantasia is my all time favourite Disney movie the only video game based on it is just terrible it makes Home Alone 1 for the SNES look like Sonic Adventure for the Sega Dreamcast
Just for the let it go chiptune I gave you a thumbs up
Haha, excellent use of real life ceiling hole.
Genesis FROZEN XD
Nobody t-shirt! I want it!
11:37
Someone's a Brony
But Fantasia is bad
lame acting is lame. but awesome Intro.
the acting is lame on purpose
Fantastic. :)
E spin etc 6:06
4:43
Hilarious. Enjoyed it.
D
Infrogames may not have made any good games themselves (as far as I know), but they have -published- good games in the past, suceh as Lost In Time and it's pseudo-sequel. Yeah, they didn't actually make them, but still.
I can make a better Disney Fantasia game than this Sega Genesis piece of crap!
I cant believe infogrames made this. Ya know, Smurfs nes infogrames, Asterix and Obelix infogrames. And ironic that they made some of the best videogames tunes...while this is just fucking horrible.
I hate this game's butchery of classical music as much as I despise the movie for racist centaurs. And The Little Mermaid can go to h**l for the "blackfish" clip and appropriating trans culture by making Ursula an unauthorized DeVine tribute.....but
Hindsight is 20/20, you know?
Nobody Emblem!
