    Where can I get a reliable m57 in the UK?

    Called an r380 for a reason 😂 mind that right foot chap haha
    I'd have the Ashcroft locker in the rear and ATB upfront as back does all the work.
    Also with that power I hope you have Ashcroft HD C&P and would strongly recommend Getting Nige at Xcess4x4 to peg and tab lock your diffs as they will explode or strip the crown. I have had all that done on my 300tdi disco due to running 35s let alone having 200+bhp. (And with those axle upgrades and power no reason for you not to up your tyre size and re-gear 😉😉)
    Great build though looking forward to following

      Hey mate, appreciate your response. An r380 ran in Team Syncro's Ultra 4 race car for 8 races with 37's & running 300+ bhp, they are alot tougher than people think if the bearing are uprated, they are kept cool & oil is changed regularly. I Want the front diff to be completely open under normal road use, lsd in the front has a tendency to make it understeer. All crowns and pinions are HD. Pegging is really only used on off-road vehicles as adds a friction element which is undesirable if you doing high mileage, a well set up diff should be able to cope, but as you said its not uncommon for them to go. I'm not going for crazy big tires as frankly the car will be mainly used on the road (towing etc). Im fitting a 1.1 transfer box to match the power tho so still should be able to hit the magic 100mph haha. cheers for your support, ollie

      @@sixthelementengineering54 mechanical sympathy goes a long way with the box people shear the ends off with just a 2.8 and a heavy foot at the wrong time 😂 likewise people "say" they run 37s on stock parts and maintain its fine (probably road queen's haha)
      Mines my daily and does 27mpg and 80mph on the 300tdi with Ashcroft 4.12 hd gears which totally transformed the car.
      pegging once bed in there is no drag (less then pads on discs) and only when the crown rides up under mad load does it touch hard. General rule is peg on stock c&p than HD and no peg (he says with unpegged front on HD haha but have stock CVS as weak point which when I go to Ashcroft cvs will peg the front)
      Agree about ATB on front, had one upfront on my 90 and always pay more for selectable lockers now as didn't like the pull.
      I'm envious of your center atb, on my list as my plant gears feel a bit worn and like the idea of less tranny slop with the ATB rather than the actual benefit of a LSD 😂 also just about to get a LOF clutch👍🏻
      Like anything with modded cars and especially landies it is a suck it and see, upgrade one bit and you shift the weak point and it ends up at an expensive point (gearbox lol)
      Anyway opinions are like elbows on here haha, good luck and I look forward to following your project and channel👍🏻

      @@Roy666Batty Indeed it does! I've left the props as a weak point as I have a spare set on the shelf & they can be replaced in 15 mins. Yeh the tranny slop improvement is huge apparently it makes pumas a lot less lurchy.
      Thanks for the support should be dropping a new episode next week.

      Sorry but I disagree about the diff pegging , there’s no way you broke a crown wheel on a 300tdi through power !
      I have had all defenders apart from a puma and lots of different states of tune and tyres, including
      Superswamper boggers Fedimas and lots more and never broke a crown wheel !

    That gearbox bolts straight onto the m57??

    • @sixthelementengineering54
      @sixthelementengineering54  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, to bolt it to an r380 you need an adapter plate. I'm using Syncro Gearboxes adapter kit.

    Great video. I am mid build a V8 3.9 conversion from a 2.5NA ex Mod Tithonus 110. Who do you use to insure such a modded defender ?

      SixthElementEngineering thanks for he reply, as mine edges closer to being finished I am starting to think this will be an odd ball to insure.

      @@9MAS yeh i thought the same. I've heard Adrian Flux are pretty understanding for the need for engine conversions in Defenders. Just a case of shopping around, im sure you'll find something reasonable.

    What you doing for an ecu? M57 is common rail?

    • @sixthelementengineering54
      @sixthelementengineering54  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Simon Doherty sorts out the ECU , his email is in the credits. He remaps the ecu to 240 bhp from 184 & carries out an ews delete so I don't have to have the BMW lock barrel and aerial attached in the car. Yes it is.
