All seasons he's great, and he subtly evolves each season it's fascinating. The guy plays Homelander with true nuance. Sometimes he even makes me pity him.
He's probably got a few NZ awards for his work in New Zealand's " outrageous fortune" , and there's no more prestigious award in the world than TVNZ awards. 😂😂😂
Honestly, I struggle to think of a character that's ever been acted this well. The way he makes you hate him or have chills on your neck, just by the grossness of his personality. Not just that, the way you can feel his own insecurity and vulnerability, mixed with this own humor and chaos. But the thing is... Saying all that, someone would think his personally would be all over the place, but it's actually extremely consistent. Consistently all of it at the same time, which makes it so disturbing, and intriguing.
What's wild to me is that Soldier Boy was actually loyal to the deal with Butcher. To take down homelander then they all turned on him. Say what you want about SB but he's a true solider and loyal. He could've easily turned and went to homelander but he made a deal
Yea I agree the fact Butcher made such a huge deal about Homelander not being SB actual son. For Him to then want to save Ryan who actually wasn’t even His was weird, and weirder Mave obviously still was trying to kill Homelander, so why not just let Solider Boy complete the Job? Kinda disappointed, Great season tho!
Ryan has almost dead eyes when he smiles at the end there.. that kid is actually a pretty great actor being so young, he really feels like homelanders son, very conflicted with what he’s left with..

Personally, I don’t want them to just kill off Homelander. I’d love to see him de-powered. He’s spent his entire life as a god, it’d be wild to see how he reacts to being a normal human.
I really thought it was going to be an avatar the last air bender moment, when Aang depowers the oh so mighty Fire Lord. I even got a subtle hint from Huey when he said “we save everyone, even if they’re not worthy of saving. Especially if they’re not worthy of saving” which I thought would be a foreshadow of homelander. But idk lol
Ryan smiles because he realizes in that moment killing someone isn’t something to be ashamed of. Desensitizing his value of life is another way of absolving himself of taking his mothers
Could see homelander showing the lad how he gets a girl that doesn't want him, then butcher saying that's what he did to his mum or something along them lines. Gets the kid back and Nadia (head popper) as ally
Antony Starr is one of very few people who can pull off the look where his eyes are both completely dead inside and fkn CRAZY simultaneously. He is just so spectacular in this role.
I really hope that instead of Butcher going on a suicide mission they instead give him the actual blue V as a last ditch effort. It happened in the comics and it would save our favorite character.
I doubt he's gone. In the comics, the CEO character is really the only one who actually "wins" in the end. While the show has obviously deviated from the comics, the guy's too good of a character to just discard.
I think he cares about Ryan for what Ryan can do for him, and nothing more. He cares for Ryan yeah but only because he sees Ryan as an extension of himself.
My theory is that Gecko (who Vought used in regenerative experiments in season 2) will be used in some capacity to piece together Noir with parts of Stormfront, to create a silver bullet against Homelander.
i love the parallel to the season 3 ending with ryan walking away with homeland the same way he did with butcher, both standing in shock covered in blood
What I would love to see, at least for one Episode, is a powerless Homelander. Maybe they can suppress his power for a short while. Would be interesting to see how homelander would react to that
I love how soldier boy can't die but is put back into stasis like weapon x because he can't be controlled Jensen killed this season with his limited showings and I didn't see Homelander disemboweling noir coming or Ryan siding with him. They messed up their mission so bad. They ended up losing their only weapon and creating a second super monster 😂
Why exactly is Soldier Boy captured? Just cuz? A powerless Maeve falls 30 stories into the trash and is fine? Noir doesn't even get to fight. A-Train does nothing... good season, but did not end on a high note.
don't forget they made butcher look corny as hell. "let me give up life goals so I can protect homelanders gRape baby who killed my wife". how many of the boys did you betray, use, and abuse to get here? how many lives lost? how many relationships destroyed. just to get your 1 rare opportunity to take out homelander and then you turn against the 1 weapon you had to actually accomplish your "life's mission". they have alot of work to do to redeem butcher. I view him as lower integrity than literally any other character in the show. like soldier boy said "your weaker than homelander" should smoked his ass too
I didn’t like black noir died like that after showing so much of his suffering. I so confused actually, I was expecting something different.but I really liked it overall. There's no way Noir is dead. He can survive having his brain bashed out, I'm sure his bowels will be fine. Deep and A Train need to have some super moments and turn on Homelander. Ryan may have his morality questioned but I think he will ultimately be the one to kill Homelander.
I thought in the season finale A train would come and help at some point, or maybe as part of the explanation for how Maeve survived, like catching it at the end on the surveillance tape. Anyway yeah they both by the end are definitely going to turn one way or another
Considering he’s in possession of the CIA. I feel like he’s going to be the governments answer to homelander and vaught as a whole. To actually defend his nation and it’s democracy or something similar. Theres no way he doesn’t come back, with how beloved he was.
Well if butcher only got like a year or so to live then this has to be the final season unless he takes permanent V and survives lol Also, I don't get why he was worried about Ryan getting blasted by soldier boy, he would've survived like Homelander would and just not have powers then they could kill homelander with no Ryan interference then finish off soldier boy. Thought it was an ok finale. Too much buildup between Homelander and Soldier Boy for what we actually got. And Black Noir’s revenge plot being completely waisted by a gut punch from HL didn’t stick for me. Also I thought bringing Ryan into the climax was kinda forced. Maeve’s sacrifice bait didnt work for me either. Still a great season regardless.
I'd even argue that this finale was the worst episode produced by the show. Especially for the fight to consume a portionable amount of the episode; it had too much happening during the fight for nothing to ultimately happen. The most eventful thing that happened was black noir's death, and even then it was poorly done. It just seems like lazy writing.

Homelander is fine, Meave is fine just injured, Soldier Boy is back on ice, Kimiko is back on V, Butcher is still Butcher, and Vought will somehow find a way to spin this. Just felt off for the amount of buildup that it had going into the finale. Also Noir was completely robbed I wont forgive them for that.
Soldier Boy was my favorite character from this season and him and Black Noir are my two favorite Supes. I hope we see Soldier Boy get a redemption arch with MM. I wanna see more of the human side of Soldier Boy come out and help defeat Homelander.
I agree with all of this. Sb definitely Carrie’s every scene he’s in and is always extremely crucial to the show Noir had so much promise with the back story they gave him, but for all that to be completely wasted. I really hope since he survived sb he can still survive this. He’s such a mystery character and seeing him possibly join the boys would be amazing. The deep hasn’t added anything for the show except comedy. But honestly I hate his scenes it’s just fucking weird. Butcher has been a baby this entire season. They had Lenny show up in his biggest nightmare, had a life altering mid life crisis. But then immediately reverted to being a cock.
I definitely think Black Noir will be put back together to resemble the Black Noir I’m the comics, not as in a clone of homelander but superior in strength. To me he has always came off as a character slowly being developed through the series. Season 4, we will get the true Black Noir. And also lol, Ryan is going to be a MENACE you hear me!?
How about the Homelander clone like in the comics but with "Prime Directives" programmed into him like Robocop. 1. Stay close to Homelander and keep him in check. 2. Dont reveal any new powers beyond what the original Black Noir has until facing his target. (Homelander) 3. Keep and/or create damning evidence against Homelander to make the people hate him. This would be closer to the comic book Black Nior story, which i didnt care for in the comics and thought it was a copout reveal. Now it would be executed better knowing that he always wasnt a clone but something Vought came up with as a contingency plan after the original Black Noir was murdered. The only thing that wouldn't work is that Homelander say he can see through masks... unless he meant that figuratively.

I think Butcher will take a step back or with his few months left do all he can to stop Homelander, Noir needs to come back, and I think Soldier Boy had a bit of a redemption by calling Homelander a disappointment, calling back to what his Dad said about him and Soldier Boy essentially calling himself a disappointment in that scene.
I didn't get that at all. My understanding of it was homelander is a disappointment because he's a crying needy bitch. All SB goes on about is how men today aren't proper men anymore. He considered himself a real man though, he wasn't disappointed in himself imo.

I think they played it too safe at the end. It's like they are afraid of killing off their heroes, which just hurts the suspense now. First, they did it with A-Train and now again in the final episode. Black Noir should have lived, and Maeve should have died. What was even the point of her "sacrifice" if she just lost her powers? That is what she actually wanted. Yes, maybe (probably?) Black Noir is still alive, but not having him face Soldier Boy was just a waste for his character. Alternately, Black Noir should have walked into the final fight and he should have been the one to throw Soldier Boy out the window. That would have been a perfect end for his character.
man what a great season. I love that they planted the seeds for next season throughout this one. only A-Train and the Deep remain in the 7 with Homelander. 3/7 lol. rip noir, I’m glad Maeve got out. Starlight’s gonna be public enemy #1 next season, after she willingly left her platform and resources. poor Ryan, the Boys and Butcher lost him - its crazy that they lost so bad, Homelander looking like the good guy to Ryan! a pyrrhic victory if I ever saw one.
This may be wishful thinking, but I do not think black noirs story is finished. Both Maeve's actor and Nathan Mitchell are reportdedly leaving the cast, however maeve was able to survive a blast from soldier boy at point blank. Why would they choose to kill someone that they've put effort into developing his character? I think that he will come back in season 4, but what do i know. EDIT: After watching the season 3 recap of episode 8 Eric Kripke has even discussed the possibility of the return of noir, and talks about how easy it is to recast the character. Which is the very reason why Nathan Mitchell is not used in the flashbacks as he wanted to leave the cast. So noir could come back, and they have explored these possibilities. Homelander is gonna be public enemy #1 now that people see how evil and sadistic he is, they just won’t be powerful enough to do anything about it. Only a loud minority of people would continue to support Homelander.
My favourite thing about the boys is how they manage to make so much twists but never make it over used or expected. I like how neither both sides (the boys and homelander) have any advantages over the other group. The writers made it so both groups are in the same playing field most if not all the time, and they don;t make it clear who has the upper hand or who doesn't.
I definitely thought Noir would play more of a part in this episode... whoops. On the flip side, Maeve did a lot more than I expected she would. Glad she didn't die, though I thought she did for a minute there. Starlight getting a moment to, wait for it... shine, was pretty good. She's never really struck me as particularly powerful though based on her feats in the show. Kimiko going berserk listening to that song in the lab was awesome, she's a beast. That final fight was convoluted but pretty good overall, quite a few crossing allegiances depending on who was fighting who over what. The ending was foreboding, especially by having Todd be the person who started the cheer. I've said this before on another video about last week's ep, but they 100% should have taken some more regular Comp V from the lab. I mean, Starlight was already there in the ep last week (coulda taken a few more doses once she read the doc about how Temp V kills people) & they were JUST there at the building in this episode.

Problems with the finale: 1) Soldier Boy's change of heart. Why even tell Homelander that he's his father if there was never going to be any attempt at reconciliation? SB deciding to attack HL makes no sense. 2) Meave should not have survived that blast considering she was depowered by that blast and fell 40 stories. 3) Black Noir was getting some intense character development to just die by being punched in the stomach? His story wasn't resolved at all.

His mental state on top of being a kid with a malleable mind and being the only supe kid and no friends kinda makes it make sense in a way why he's sticking with homelander. He's the only other person who he can't accidentally kill and understands him more than anyone especially butcher. Plus HL is his real father on top of being the missing father figure as well with butcher messing their father-son relationship up.
When HL said "I'm you" SB agree and said you're a disappointment just what SB'S father said to him he knew HL is way to fucked up he said all the reason way he thinks that and as far as we see in this season SB don't break promise when he said he will do it he will do it that's why when butcher protect Ryan SB called him out for being hypocrite, this how i see it, idk this episode feels off
Soldier boy didnt have a change of heart, I got the sense he wasn't going to side with him when they were on the phone last episode, & it lines up with his character perfectly. I also don't think Noir is dead. he got his head split open in the flashback & managed to survive that, he's got some healing powers, not sure how far the powers extend but I thought it was obvious he was going to come back & assist the boys next season.
I haven’t heard anyone talking about the fact that Soldier Boy didn’t have the Anti V ability until the Russians got ahold of him. Also, as far as we know, no one knew the nerve agent would keep him sedated before the Russians. They’ve provided better threats against Soldier Boy and Homelander than anyone else in the show. I think & I hope season 4 is going to be a return to Russia and a larger analogy of the cold war we’ve been locked in for decades
Stan Edgar’s reemergence next season will turn everything upside down! I believe he wants Vought destroyed so he can move on to what he really wants…absolute power!
I can definitely see the series ending with Stan Edgar running for President after Neuman, Singer, Homelander, etc are dead and then have audio leak that implicates him for crimes just like Raynor when she ran for Senate in the comics

I think this season had the least satisfying ending, all the build up did in Eps 7 was wasted to me and I think they could have handled the episode much better to give us a better ending rather than all the setup for Season 4.
Exactly. I loved the season but the ending wasn’t as satisfactory as the last 2 season’s. The primary reason for that was because of what happened at Vought tower. They almost had Homelander, the whole series could’ve ended there. But no, he got Ryan there and suddenly Butcher changed his mind. Believable, but what a buzzkill.
I personally don't think Maeve should be alive after that fall especially since she is powerless now, so how did she survive? Also Rip Black Noir kinda disappointed he was taken out like that. Decent finale 8/10 but I don't know if this show can keep the steam up for more that 1-2 more seasons.
Yeah maeve shouldn’t be alive as for black noir he will come back as a silver bullet. I doubt Victoria Numen can risk a unhinged homelander when she is now Vice President
I dont think the depowering is instant and maeve got hit by the blast as she was falling and the blast definitely propelled her faster on to the ground before she could lose her powers
I love the boys ability to subvert expectations, they love to go in the opposite direction the story has been building too and manage to make it more exciting and satisfying in an inconceivable way.
They did it in a way that made sense pertaining to the character’s motives and beliefs, but all that build up and tension between Homelander and Solider Boy just for nothing to happen was a bit of a let down. There was no conflict between Soldier Boy and Butcher until the last 15 minutes, why would I want to see them fight?
Im guessing this whole time Soldier Boy’s blast was overrated, when it kills humans but only takes the powers away from more durable supes. Thats why Maeve and Kimiko were fine but CC and TNT got blasted because they’re not very durable. I really underestimated Maeve
Kimiko would've been excusable since she was at the brink of dying and soldier boy didn't fire it with an intent to kill. He did it to break open the wall to go out. But then ofc the show weakens and nerfs soldier boy cause they wanna milk the show now
@@andyrobin7196 I disagree, maeve has been training for this moment, nonstop and homelander did not take her seriously at the start of the fight. I believe he was seriously caught off guard. Also we know Maeve as probable one of the most durable supes.
I think Starlight was underused this season. She had a lot of screentime and did a lot of important stuff, but she was basically just supporting Hughie and Kimoko in their progress while not really having any character growth of her own.
Amazing season but this finale was a let down. It really made this entire season for basically nothing….in the grand scheme of things, we are right back to where we started at the beginning of the season but just worse cause now homelander can do what he want. Also people’s actions did not line up with their character AT ALL! 1) butcher would 100% have stayed to the mission and killed homelander. Literally would have just taken the kid away and let SB do what he has to do. Maeve managed to keep to the mission! 2) Maeve def would have died from that explosion 3) black noir being killed like that was underwhelming….I mean sure it’s their choice but def not the best choice…literally HL getting almost killed by SB and Butcher and a lack noir coming in to save his ass and kill SB was 100% the way to go. 4) Ryan was honestly just annoying…he went from “I don’t wanna use my powers” to “yeah my dad just murdered someone and that was awesome” when really you would expect his character to be horrified at what he just saw….

God I love Homelander, I know you're supposed to hate him and he is a terrible person but man do they do a great job of making him sympathetic even after all he's done , brilliant writing (chefs kiss )
I think one of the key people we still need to look out for is the supe that escaped the Sage Grove Center, Cindy. She was left for dead yet she ended up hitchhiking. Telekinesis is nothing to scoff at and could be a wild card next season
Yeah i think shes gonna play a big role. Its way more than telekenisis. She can literally just clentch her hand and make somebody completely explode. Kinda reminds me of neumans powers a bit.

Tbh this last episode doesn't make sense for 4 key situations. 1. When the big 3 confront Homelander and Ryan was there, all they needed to do was get Ryan out of the room so SB can do his thing. I thought it was a little contrived in order to save Homelander for another season. They could have written that better. Butcher would not let that opportunity slip like that. Enough to fight his only chance at stopping Homelander. In fact he'd go hard to pry Ryan from Homelander. 2. Ryan smiling when Homelander kills a dude. He grew up with his mom. He has to know that isn't right. He was even disturbed by Homelanders words last season. How much seeing him murder a dude. 3. The crowd cheering for Homelander... I'm sorry but the normal public seeing that would be terrified regardless of which side they are. A supe just lasered a guy for throwing an item. That shit would scar anyone no matter how "extreme" they are seeing as they're just normal people 4. How tf did Maeve survive. She jumped off a building and lost her powers when SB exploded. She shoulda been crushed.
The whole episode felt weird to me. It all felt choppy and strange motivations. I just don’t buy that butcher would sacrifice two golden opportunities to kill homelander. Plus noirs death was unsatisfactory and how is Maeve alive?

The way that The Boys ties in social commentary is just perfect. When I saw the final scene I immediately thought of Donald Trump saying that he could shoot somebody and not lose voters. It was chilling to watch but so impactful.

Why would butcher turn on SOldier boy that did not feel earned at all. I mean I know in theory why he would but his whole motivation this whole show has been to kill homelander at all cost and to just throw it away twice within a few minutes was weird. Also if Maeve was that strong then butcher and her could’ve taken homelander down by themselves. Throw starlight and Huey in there and they don’t even need soldier boy. This episode was such a weird ending to a fantastic season.
He was protecting Ryan. It was his last promise to Becca. It showed Butcher’s love for Becca was still greater than his desire for revenge, thus showing Butcher is still a good person.
I totally agree! Everything doesn't make sense! Butcher should've let SB take out HL. Both HL and Ryan would just lose their powers, which is a good thing. And is like every character is brainless, everyone can see that SB is not as psychotic as HL. Out of the two evils, is better to have SB instead of HL. For me, a good ending to this season would be, have SB take out HL (no powers), then Butcher and the gang turn on SB, have them fight, then gas him. Ryan gets pissed that his father and SB got their a$$ kicked, runs away. But the twist is that Ryan DID NOT lose his powers, and gets revengeful. Both Homelander and SB gets locked up. Have the last scene showing Ryan still has powers and has a evil smile on his face. And to add more detail, as the power beam from SB is about to hit HL, HL grabs Ryan and try to use him as a sheild. But wasn't fast enough, and the beam hits both of them from the side. This detail proves that HL cares about no one but himself, and that when push comes to shove, everything he said to Ryan was really BS.
Hope Noir is still alive or can be brought back, somehow. Action scenes were sick as always, but don't really think either of SB or Maeve should still be alive from a plot perspective. I'd imagine it's building up towards a final battle of virtually everyone v Homelander (+Ryan)? Don't love when they literally just make Homelander Trump and his supporters the equivalent, it feels lazy, but this season did well overall in that social commentary department. Great season of a great show, even if this finale was a bit underwhelming - hopefully building towards an incredible s4

If he’s dead for good I would be kinda disappointed, no redemption just “hey let’s kill solider boy” as if he gained any confidence. But without his past, We would’ve been right back there. So I hope hes not dead he still has an arc to finish
They have had 4 major confrontations by now. Season 4 they have to kill Homelander and end the main plot threads. Maybe do a sort of soft reboot. Because if it continues after Season 4, it’d be milking. I trust the showrunners though, great season overall.
Knowing the business model of tv shows everyone love to milk it, selling merchandise etc. I’d feel like Amazon would want their own version of game of thrones which in my opinion they rightly have now. Holy shit this season was good
It’s ironic that this show is conveying the evils of massive corporations while being produced and streamed by one of the biggest corporations in the world. If we’ve learned anything from this show it’ll be milked for eternity.
If I were writing the show, I would have Soldier Boy show up to zap Homelander's powers and Butcher be about to kill him but then realize it's worse to just leave him as a powerless, lonely man who isn't loved by his father or son. I'm still wondering why Butcher and Maeve hooked up, and wonder if she will briefly return only to reveal Butcher's child.

The fact he was cheered for killing someone at the end was also quite shocking as well. - Soldier Boy seemed like the only one who was being logical at the end, seemed somewhat odd that they all turned on him and forgot about there actual goal for slapping Ryan after Ryan attacked him - Butcher I feel is going to become the ultimate villain of the series, with a year or so to live he has nothing to lose now and will go off the rails, like he does in the comics. I can see a double turn with Homelander becoming the hero and Butcher becoming the Villain. Butcher goes so far off the rails that Homelander has to step in and stop him and becomes a full on super-hero with a change of heart.
Just a theory but i don’t think butcher dies from the illness he could just take the blue permanent V and get actual powers it should reverse the illness

Him being protective of Ryan is pretty noble, but I see that as just a tiny human part within him just like how bad Butcher is he still care for his friends. I thinking it won't be the same Black Noir that will return, but Homelander clone that will replace the first Black Noir. The timing could fit so perfectly for that turn of events. I wish the writers would have the guts to evolve HL into a redeemed villain who makes one amazing heroic gesture to save Ryan ala Darth Vader saving Luke from the Emperor. However, even if they can write a scene as shocking as a miniature naked man jumps inside another man’s penis slit, I don’t think even this show can risk turning a racial supremacist into anything resembling an actual hero. That’s a shame too, because I think that could be an incredibly powerful move.

There's no way that noir is dead dude survived a building sized explosion, and got back up. This is just some straight disembowelling, I doubt he's dead considering that Maeve, and soldier boy are also both alive ,no way his story ends here.

The ultimate villain in the series has to be Butcher. The series has always shown that actions have consequences, and Butcher has too high of a body count in his wake. I think they will be brave enough to show a protagonist who is irredeemable.
I doubt it. If they had any balls they would have let Butcher kill Stillwell's baby in the season 1 finale when he blew himself up. Instead they wrote in that Homelander saved the baby so that Butcher wouldnt have to do anything bad.

If he tried to be a villain in the final season the writers would have all his potential murder targets escape and have him get redeemed by Hughie.
In the comics Homelander kills the vice president, the president gets attacked by an animal, and Butcher and Black Noir confronts Homelander in the white House. Although the show is different than the comics I can totally see Neuman and the other guy taking the white House just for Homelander to lead a supe rebellion. It'll be interesting to see how that turns out.
TBH felt it was pretty lame. They threw away alot of potential this season, really didnt do anything major other than waste black noir which was done so poorly. Im not a fan of ryan joining him out of nowhere, and the show had some major plotholes that i think just ended up seeming lazy in the end. The action was cool, but ultimately it was a let down.

My theory is that Edger will somehow create a clone of homelander that is completely controllable by him. The clone will take up, the now vacant identity, black noir and we will see a more comic based story. This will also allow edger to present a solution to the homelander problem and gain sufficient leverage to regain power.
But that currently wouldn't work since Homelander can SEE Black Noirs face at all times. Can't trick him that way anymore. And let's be honest Edgar already stated that he taught her to "play both sides" so if you believe that he isn't still involved on the back end to get her to become the eventual president of the United States somehow then you don't get what Edgar represents in this show lol.

A lot of people seem to forget that this season basically introduced the Kryptonite of the verse High amounts of Radiation can depower supes, and they got Soldier boy’s body again. Someone is gonna try and replicate that into weapons in season4, especially since Homelander is murdering in broad daylight. The immediate public and his supporters might not have a problem with it, but I’m betting some of the higher ups took notice

It's underwhelming but it had to be for season 4 and even 5 to be possible. They still could've done a little bit better tho honestly worst episode of this season.

not really, if homelanders mom is a human then that means he is half human hald supe so ryan would be 1/4 super 3/4 human but it seems the super genes overtake human ones. but if homelanders mom is a super than ryan is 1/2 super 1/2 human. also with how genetics work it seems that offsprings of supes are stronger, homelander is almost invincible, super strength, can fly and has eye lasers while soldier boy only has super strength and almost invincible (his new beam ability wasn't innate with him and is due to russians experimenting on him). so ryan can be stronger than homelander and gain more abilities, maybe even some of the abilities of homelanders mother if she is a supe.
They don't know how anyone will react to compound V. Mostly, people just die from it. About all they know is that if a supe somehow manages to have a baby at all, it's a miracle.
That would be the end of his friendship with MM. I don't think he would do that under any circumstances because even though he told MM that he wouldn't draw any line, his main motivation is to kill all Supes. But to become a supe himself in the process- I don't think even Butcher would lose his way that much.

It bothers me that Solider Boy was completely on Butchers side, THE ENTIRE TIME they were together. So many chances to switch sides or just kill butcher and move on. He had his goddamn son in front of him and still tried to kill him because of butcher. BUT somehow butcher still fucking turns on him instead of getting ryan out of there so they could continue the plan they had forever.
It bothered me too but I think it only makes senses if Butcher wanted to keep Ryan alive. Even if Butcher started running Ryan down the stairs, a fight to the death between soldier boy, Maeve and homelander would have destroyed the entire building since soldier boy has to go nuclear to kill homelander
Had Ryan not left with Homelander when he did in Vought Tower, Homelander would have killed Butcher. I think Ryan had did so consciously in part to save Butcher, even if he is conflicted. But all in all I was a little let down by the finale. It was a bit too much of a soft reset for the next season after how high the stakes were shown to be. Even Noir will be back, I suspect.
I noticed that Homelander always pulled back from going nuclear and killing people publicly before this finale; is it possible that Maeve gave him brain damage with that stab, and he no longer has any self control?

I see people complaining that butcher switched sides on soldier boy at the end, but that was the whole point of his growth this season. Learning to stop putting those close to him at risk. He made that mistake with his brother, wife, and sort of hughie, and wanted to spare Ryan of any more pain, even if Ryan didn’t realize it.
It's been pointed out that SB kind of respects Butcher, and this reminds me of why. Butcher WILL keep his promise to Becka, just like SB WILL honor an agreement. SB is nonplussed that Butcher seems to sabotage his own mission, not realizing that protecting Ryan is Butcher's mission.

Honestly, I struggle to think of a character that's ever been acted this well. The way he makes you hate him or have chills on your neck, just by the grossness of his personality. Not just that, the way you can feel his own insecurity and vulnerability, mixed with this own humor and chaos.
But the thing is... Saying all that, someone would think his personally would be all over the place, but it's actually extremely consistent. Consistently all of it at the same time, which makes it so disturbing, and intriguing.
What's wild to me is that Soldier Boy was actually loyal to the deal with Butcher. To take down homelander then they all turned on him. Say what you want about SB but he's a true solider and loyal. He could've easily turned and went to homelander but he made a deal

Thought it was an ok finale. Too much buildup between Homelander and Soldier Boy for what we actually got. And Black Noir’s revenge plot being completely waisted by a gut punch from HL didn’t stick for me. Also I thought bringing Ryan into the climax was kinda forced. Maeve’s sacrifice bait didnt work for me either. Still a great season regardless.
I'd even argue that this finale was the worst episode produced by the show. Especially for the fight to consume a portionable amount of the episode; it had too much happening during the fight for nothing to ultimately happen. The most eventful thing that happened was black noir's death, and even then it was poorly done. It just seems like lazy writing.

How about the Homelander clone like in the comics but with "Prime Directives" programmed into him like Robocop.
1. Stay close to Homelander and keep him in check.
2. Dont reveal any new powers beyond what the original Black Noir has until facing his target. (Homelander)
3. Keep and/or create damning evidence against Homelander to make the people hate him.
This would be closer to the comic book Black Nior story, which i didnt care for in the comics and thought it was a copout reveal. Now it would be executed better knowing that he always wasnt a clone but something Vought came up with as a contingency plan after the original Black Noir was murdered.
The only thing that wouldn't work is that Homelander say he can see through masks... unless he meant that figuratively.

I think Butcher will take a step back or with his few months left do all he can to stop Homelander, Noir needs to come back, and I think Soldier Boy had a bit of a redemption by calling Homelander a disappointment, calling back to what his Dad said about him and Soldier Boy essentially calling himself a disappointment in that scene.
His whole point was that homelander was like him "a disappointment", so that's why he tries to kill him

I think they played it too safe at the end. It's like they are afraid of killing off their heroes, which just hurts the suspense now. First, they did it with A-Train and now again in the final episode. Black Noir should have lived, and Maeve should have died. What was even the point of her "sacrifice" if she just lost her powers? That is what she actually wanted.
Yes, maybe (probably?) Black Noir is still alive, but not having him face Soldier Boy was just a waste for his character.
Alternately, Black Noir should have walked into the final fight and he should have been the one to throw Soldier Boy out the window. That would have been a perfect end for his character.

This may be wishful thinking, but I do not think black noirs story is finished. Both Maeve's actor and Nathan Mitchell are reportdedly leaving the cast, however maeve was able to survive a blast from soldier boy at point blank. Why would they choose to kill someone that they've put effort into developing his character? I think that he will come back in season 4, but what do i know.
EDIT: After watching the season 3 recap of episode 8 Eric Kripke has even discussed the possibility of the return of noir, and talks about how easy it is to recast the character. Which is the very reason why Nathan Mitchell is not used in the flashbacks as he wanted to leave the cast. So noir could come back, and they have explored these possibilities.

Homelander is gonna be public enemy #1 now that people see how evil and sadistic he is, they just won’t be powerful enough to do anything about it. Only a loud minority of people would continue to support Homelander.

Anthony Starr’s performance as Homelander is absolutely amazing
My favourite thing about the boys is how they manage to make so much twists but never make it over used or expected. I like how neither both sides (the boys and homelander) have any advantages over the other group. The writers made it so both groups are in the same playing field most if not all the time, and they don;t make it clear who has the upper hand or who doesn't.
I definitely thought Noir would play more of a part in this episode... whoops. On the flip side, Maeve did a lot more than I expected she would. Glad she didn't die, though I thought she did for a minute there. Starlight getting a moment to, wait for it... shine, was pretty good. She's never really struck me as particularly powerful though based on her feats in the show.
Kimiko going berserk listening to that song in the lab was awesome, she's a beast. That final fight was convoluted but pretty good overall, quite a few crossing allegiances depending on who was fighting who over what. The ending was foreboding, especially by having Todd be the person who started the cheer.
I've said this before on another video about last week's ep, but they 100% should have taken some more regular Comp V from the lab. I mean, Starlight was already there in the ep last week (coulda taken a few more doses once she read the doc about how Temp V kills people) & they were JUST there at the building in this episode.

Problems with the finale:
1) Soldier Boy's change of heart. Why even tell Homelander that he's his father if there was never going to be any attempt at reconciliation? SB deciding to attack HL makes no sense.
2) Meave should not have survived that blast considering she was depowered by that blast and fell 40 stories.
3) Black Noir was getting some intense character development to just die by being punched in the stomach? His story wasn't resolved at all.
4.) Ryan turning evil despite the fact that becca spent her life to tell her what's right and wrong

His mental state on top of being a kid with a malleable mind and being the only supe kid and no friends kinda makes it make sense in a way why he's sticking with homelander. He's the only other person who he can't accidentally kill and understands him more than anyone especially butcher. Plus HL is his real father on top of being the missing father figure as well with butcher messing their father-son relationship up.
When HL said "I'm you" SB agree and said you're a disappointment just what SB'S father said to him he knew HL is way to fucked up he said all the reason way he thinks that and as far as we see in this season SB don't break promise when he said he will do it he will do it that's why when butcher protect Ryan SB called him out for being hypocrite, this how i see it, idk this episode feels off
Soldier boy didnt have a change of heart, I got the sense he wasn't going to side with him when they were on the phone last episode, & it lines up with his character perfectly.
I also don't think Noir is dead. he got his head split open in the flashback & managed to survive that, he's got some healing powers, not sure how far the powers extend but I thought it was obvious he was going to come back & assist the boys next season.
I haven’t heard anyone talking about the fact that Soldier Boy didn’t have the Anti V ability until the Russians got ahold of him. Also, as far as we know, no one knew the nerve agent would keep him sedated before the Russians. They’ve provided better threats against Soldier Boy and Homelander than anyone else in the show. I think & I hope season 4 is going to be a return to Russia and a larger analogy of the cold war we’ve been locked in for decades

I think this season had the least satisfying ending, all the build up did in Eps 7 was wasted to me and I think they could have handled the episode much better to give us a better ending rather than all the setup for Season 4.
Exactly. I loved the season but the ending wasn’t as satisfactory as the last 2 season’s. The primary reason for that was because of what happened at Vought tower. They almost had Homelander, the whole series could’ve ended there. But no, he got Ryan there and suddenly Butcher changed his mind. Believable, but what a buzzkill.

I personally don't think Maeve should be alive after that fall especially since she is powerless now, so how did she survive? Also Rip Black Noir kinda disappointed he was taken out like that. Decent finale 8/10 but I don't know if this show can keep the steam up for more that 1-2 more seasons.
I don't think the depowering is instant, we only found Kimiko lost her powers after bringing her to the hospital

I love the boys ability to subvert expectations, they love to go in the opposite direction the story has been building too and manage to make it more exciting and satisfying in an inconceivable way.

They did it in a way that made sense pertaining to the character’s motives and beliefs, but all that build up and tension between Homelander and Solider Boy just for nothing to happen was a bit of a let down. There was no conflict between Soldier Boy and Butcher until the last 15 minutes, why would I want to see them fight?
Im guessing this whole time Soldier Boy’s blast was overrated, when it kills humans but only takes the powers away from more durable supes. Thats why Maeve and Kimiko were fine but CC and TNT got blasted because they’re not very durable. I really underestimated Maeve

I think Starlight was underused this season. She had a lot of screentime and did a lot of important stuff, but she was basically just supporting Hughie and Kimoko in their progress while not really having any character growth of her own.

Amazing season but this finale was a let down. It really made this entire season for basically nothing….in the grand scheme of things, we are right back to where we started at the beginning of the season but just worse cause now homelander can do what he want.
Also people’s actions did not line up with their character AT ALL!
1) butcher would 100% have stayed to the mission and killed homelander. Literally would have just taken the kid away and let SB do what he has to do. Maeve managed to keep to the mission!
2) Maeve def would have died from that explosion
3) black noir being killed like that was underwhelming….I mean sure it’s their choice but def not the best choice…literally HL getting almost killed by SB and Butcher and a lack noir coming in to save his ass and kill SB was 100% the way to go.
4) Ryan was honestly just annoying…he went from “I don’t wanna use my powers” to “yeah my dad just murdered someone and that was awesome” when really you would expect his character to be horrified at what he just saw….

I think one of the key people we still need to look out for is the supe that escaped the Sage Grove Center, Cindy. She was left for dead yet she ended up hitchhiking. Telekinesis is nothing to scoff at and could be a wild card next season

Tbh this last episode doesn't make sense for 4 key situations.
1. When the big 3 confront Homelander and Ryan was there, all they needed to do was get Ryan out of the room so SB can do his thing. I thought it was a little contrived in order to save Homelander for another season. They could have written that better. Butcher would not let that opportunity slip like that. Enough to fight his only chance at stopping Homelander. In fact he'd go hard to pry Ryan from Homelander.
2. Ryan smiling when Homelander kills a dude. He grew up with his mom. He has to know that isn't right. He was even disturbed by Homelanders words last season. How much seeing him murder a dude.
3. The crowd cheering for Homelander... I'm sorry but the normal public seeing that would be terrified regardless of which side they are. A supe just lasered a guy for throwing an item. That shit would scar anyone no matter how "extreme" they are seeing as they're just normal people
4. How tf did Maeve survive. She jumped off a building and lost her powers when SB exploded. She shoulda been crushed.

The whole episode felt weird to me. It all felt choppy and strange motivations. I just don’t buy that butcher would sacrifice two golden opportunities to kill homelander. Plus noirs death was unsatisfactory and how is Maeve alive?

The way that The Boys ties in social commentary is just perfect. When I saw the final scene I immediately thought of Donald Trump saying that he could shoot somebody and not lose voters. It was chilling to watch but so impactful.

Why would butcher turn on SOldier boy that did not feel earned at all. I mean I know in theory why he would but his whole motivation this whole show has been to kill homelander at all cost and to just throw it away twice within a few minutes was weird. Also if Maeve was that strong then butcher and her could’ve taken homelander down by themselves. Throw starlight and Huey in there and they don’t even need soldier boy. This episode was such a weird ending to a fantastic season.
You're forgetting homelanders most underrated power, he can fly. They would just get lasered from the sky if they tried to fight him for real.
He was protecting Ryan. It was his last promise to Becca. It showed Butcher’s love for Becca was still greater than his desire for revenge, thus showing Butcher is still a good person.
I totally agree! Everything doesn't make sense! Butcher should've let SB take out HL. Both HL and Ryan would just lose their powers, which is a good thing. And is like every character is brainless, everyone can see that SB is not as psychotic as HL. Out of the two evils, is better to have SB instead of HL.
For me, a good ending to this season would be, have SB take out HL (no powers), then Butcher and the gang turn on SB, have them fight, then gas him.
Ryan gets pissed that his father and SB got their a$$ kicked, runs away. But the twist is that Ryan DID NOT lose his powers, and gets revengeful. Both Homelander and SB gets locked up.
Have the last scene showing Ryan still has powers and has a evil smile on his face.
And to add more detail, as the power beam from SB is about to hit HL, HL grabs Ryan and try to use him as a sheild. But wasn't fast enough, and the beam hits both of them from the side. This detail proves that HL cares about no one but himself, and that when push comes to shove, everything he said to Ryan was really BS.

Hope Noir is still alive or can be brought back, somehow. Action scenes were sick as always, but don't really think either of SB or Maeve should still be alive from a plot perspective. I'd imagine it's building up towards a final battle of virtually everyone v Homelander (+Ryan)? Don't love when they literally just make Homelander Trump and his supporters the equivalent, it feels lazy, but this season did well overall in that social commentary department. Great season of a great show, even if this finale was a bit underwhelming - hopefully building towards an incredible s4

They have had 4 major confrontations by now. Season 4 they have to kill Homelander and end the main plot threads. Maybe do a sort of soft reboot. Because if it continues after Season 4, it’d be milking. I trust the showrunners though, great season overall.
Knowing the business model of tv shows everyone love to milk it, selling merchandise etc. I’d feel like Amazon would want their own version of game of thrones which in my opinion they rightly have now. Holy shit this season was good

It’s ironic that this show is conveying the evils of massive corporations while being produced and streamed by one of the biggest corporations in the world. If we’ve learned anything from this show it’ll be milked for eternity.
If I were writing the show, I would have Soldier Boy show up to zap Homelander's powers and Butcher be about to kill him but then realize it's worse to just leave him as a powerless, lonely man who isn't loved by his father or son.
I'm still wondering why Butcher and Maeve hooked up, and wonder if she will briefly return only to reveal Butcher's child.
This would be an excellent departure from the comic!

- Homelander actually caring for someone is quite shocking and refreshing. The fact he was cheered for killing someone at the end was also quite shocking as well.
- Soldier Boy seemed like the only one who was being logical at the end, seemed somewhat odd that they all turned on him and forgot about there actual goal for slapping Ryan after Ryan attacked him
- Butcher I feel is going to become the ultimate villain of the series, with a year or so to live he has nothing to lose now and will go off the rails, like he does in the comics. I can see a double turn with Homelander becoming the hero and Butcher becoming the Villain. Butcher goes so far off the rails that Homelander has to step in and stop him and becomes a full on super-hero with a change of heart.
Just a theory but i don’t think butcher dies from the illness he could just take the blue permanent V and get actual powers it should reverse the illness

Him being protective of Ryan is pretty noble, but I see that as just a tiny human part within him just like how bad Butcher is he still care for his friends.

I thinking it won't be the same Black Noir that will return, but Homelander clone that will replace the first Black Noir. The timing could fit so perfectly for that turn of events. I can see, Stan Edgar doing such a thing to get back control of Valt.

I wish the writers would have the guts to evolve HL into a redeemed villain who makes one amazing heroic gesture to save Ryan ala Darth Vader saving Luke from the Emperor. However, even if they can write a scene as shocking as a miniature naked man jumps inside another man’s penis slit, I don’t think even this show can risk turning a racial supremacist into anything resembling an actual hero. That’s a shame too, because I think that could be an incredibly powerful move.

There's no way that noir is dead dude survived a building sized explosion, and got back up. This is just some straight disembowelling, I doubt he's dead considering that Maeve, and soldier boy are also both alive ,no way his story ends here.

The shaved head girl from the facility is also still alive. I feel like she will play a major role. Perhaps Edgar will use her to get back into power?
For sure a wildcard. Heard Kripke will use her character soon since she's stronger (and more invincible?) than Stormfront and the other supes
My theory for season 4 definitely involves some kind of team up between Edgar and the Boys. Can't just write off Giancarlo like that.
The ultimate villain in the series has to be Butcher. The series has always shown that actions have consequences, and Butcher has too high of a body count in his wake. I think they will be brave enough to show a protagonist who is irredeemable.
I doubt it. If they had any balls they would have let Butcher kill Stillwell's baby in the season 1 finale when he blew himself up. Instead they wrote in that Homelander saved the baby so that Butcher wouldnt have to do anything bad.

@@imaginationcore2104 it matters because clearly the writers wont let Butcher do anything bad. Butcher meant to kill the baby but was protected from the consequences by the writers. If he tried to be a villain in the final season the writers would have all his potential murder targets escape and have him get redeemed by Hughie.

In the comics Homelander kills the vice president, the president gets attacked by an animal, and Butcher and Black Noir confronts Homelander in the white House.
Although the show is different than the comics I can totally see Neuman and the other guy taking the white House just for Homelander to lead a supe rebellion. It'll be interesting to see how that turns out.
TBH felt it was pretty lame. They threw away alot of potential this season, really didnt do anything major other than waste black noir which was done so poorly. Im not a fan of ryan joining him out of nowhere, and the show had some major plotholes that i think just ended up seeming lazy in the end. The action was cool, but ultimately it was a let down.

@@nalapala_ Not a plot hole. In the beginning he couldn’t control it, hence why it was so quick and sporadic. Over time he COULD control it, hence why it started taking more time for an intentional blast.

My theory is that Edger will somehow create a clone of homelander that is completely controllable by him. The clone will take up, the now vacant identity, black noir and we will see a more comic based story. This will also allow edger to present a solution to the homelander problem and gain sufficient leverage to regain power.

A lot of people seem to forget that this season basically introduced the Kryptonite of the verse
High amounts of Radiation can depower supes, and they got Soldier boy’s body again. Someone is gonna try and replicate that into weapons in season4, especially since Homelander is murdering in broad daylight.
The immediate public and his supporters might not have a problem with it, but I’m betting some of the higher ups took notice

its kind of Butchers fault through, he pushed Ryan away as a means of not wanting his own death to hurt Ryan if it happened. especually blaming Ryan for killing Becca. that was very low. with Homelander understanding that it was an accident and the fact he never really cared about Becca made it easy for him to show support for Ryan

Then you go back and watch all the scenes with her and homelander and see how uncomfortable she is with him around. Idk about you but I wouldn't want to be around my rapist if I were in her shoes. Plus why would she try to hide from homelander and help the boys try to kill stormfront?

not really, if homelanders mom is a human then that means he is half human hald supe so ryan would be 1/4 super 3/4 human but it seems the super genes overtake human ones. but if homelanders mom is a super than ryan is 1/2 super 1/2 human.
also with how genetics work it seems that offsprings of supes are stronger, homelander is almost invincible, super strength, can fly and has eye lasers while soldier boy only has super strength and almost invincible (his new beam ability wasn't innate with him and is due to russians experimenting on him). so ryan can be stronger than homelander and gain more abilities, maybe even some of the abilities of homelanders mother if she is a supe.
Ryan is Gohan. Half human half Saiyan. Best of both worlds with deep hidden powers.
They don't know how anyone will react to compound V. Mostly, people just die from it. About all they know is that if a supe somehow manages to have a baby at all, it's a miracle.
Billy needs to take the actual compound V, so he lives and goes at it with Homelander
That would be the end of his friendship with MM. I don't think he would do that under any circumstances because even though he told MM that he wouldn't draw any line, his main motivation is to kill all Supes. But to become a supe himself in the process- I don't think even Butcher would lose his way that much.

It bothers me that Solider Boy was completely on Butchers side, THE ENTIRE TIME they were together. So many chances to switch sides or just kill butcher and move on. He had his goddamn son in front of him and still tried to kill him because of butcher. BUT somehow butcher still fucking turns on him instead of getting ryan out of there so they could continue the plan they had forever.
It bothered me too but I think it only makes senses if Butcher wanted to keep Ryan alive. Even if Butcher started running Ryan down the stairs, a fight to the death between soldier boy, Maeve and homelander would have destroyed the entire building since soldier boy has to go nuclear to kill homelander
Had Ryan not left with Homelander when he did in Vought Tower, Homelander would have killed Butcher. I think Ryan had did so consciously in part to save Butcher, even if he is conflicted.
But all in all I was a little let down by the finale. It was a bit too much of a soft reset for the next season after how high the stakes were shown to be. Even Noir will be back, I suspect.

I see people complaining that butcher switched sides on soldier boy at the end, but that was the whole point of his growth this season. Learning to stop putting those close to him at risk. He made that mistake with his brother, wife, and sort of hughie, and wanted to spare Ryan of any more pain, even if Ryan didn’t realize it.
It's been pointed out that SB kind of respects Butcher, and this reminds me of why. Butcher WILL keep his promise to Becka, just like SB WILL honor an agreement. SB is nonplussed that Butcher seems to sabotage his own mission, not realizing that protecting Ryan is Butcher's mission.
Really great observations. Truly enjoyed it. I can’t wait t see Edger come back.
