I've been mesmerized by your work since I found your TH-cam channel. I'll bet it isn't as easy as it looks. From one left-hander to another, you do an amazing job.
Gorgeous work, David! Excellent choice going natural without the resin, the grain looks so beautiful without it. The shape is perfect for this piece, it looks amazing!
Love the pot/vase the burl it beautiful. Have you ever tried a sand o flex? It makes it so the burl stays but is smooth. I love to see the nature in turned pieces. You did an awesome job on this project! Amazing! 🙃😎
Aside from a really interesting looking vase, I have to say that lathe must be bolted to the floor all the way through the Earth crust to the other side, it did not move at all when you started spinning that burl on there.
Thanks 😀 It is a heavy duty lathe so can take great abuse for sure and also secured to my bench very well. It is also key to mount the piece as even as possible so it stays well balanced 😀
I'm starting to run out of superlatives to describe your work! 🤭 Yet another beautiful piece, my favourite part is when the oil is added 🥰 Do you need to periodically add more oil to maintain the wood over years to come, or is the first application all it needs? 🤔
Thank you so much 😀 Yes, it is great to rub a little mineral / linseed oil time to time. What is very fascinating about wood that is never dies (unless it turned into ash :) ) so it will react to weather, moisture change etc .
@@DavidsWoodturning Ah, see, check me out - I'm learning something! 😌 Aside from mess, trouble, and errors in judgment, I'm not very good at making things, so I really enjoy watching those who can. Not that it makes a huuuge difference, but you being a homegrown talent gives almost a sense of pride too 🏴. Thanks for taking the time to respond, I'll leave you to get on with whatever you're coming up with next 😊🙋🏽♀️👍🏽

I really wish you would list the tools that you use and possibly where they can be bought at
Most from Axminster tools and Simon Hope woodturning

I'm intrigued by the laser guided tool. Never seen that before. What is it and how does the laser accurately show position?
In the minute 6:17 you can see better
And in this minute 6:52
Nice project David. Question for you, from 3:24 through 3:43 you were using a tool I’ve never seen before. What was it and where could I find one?
I'm pretty sure he was just using some kind of massively huge scraper
@@Fwr942 I’m sure. But I still would like to know where I could purchase such a thing.
Check out SImon Hope Woodturning scrapers

Great videos. Dave, for an entry level person wanting to get a lathe and play, what would you recommend and how much would one cost?
At least a £5-800. You will not just need a lathe, but chisels, sharepning system, chuck and other tools. But it is a loveable thing to do for sure
I noticed the red laser, is that so you can see how far in you're going when hollowing out?
Correct. It shows the wall thickness so i know deep down how much materials is still need to carve out
Dave who do you get to make your logo discs?
Check out Von Hanke on etsy
Hi Mr David, yours videos is very good.
