  • What not to do when hooking and unhooking a set of double trailers? If it's done properly it shouldn't take long or be too difficult. When done wrong and to fast things can go terribly wrong!
    Its important to remember while hooking your set of doubles one never yank or pull on equipment because you could call yourself an injury. Also always be mindful of where you team mate is in the process. I would never wish it on anyone but it does happen... a drive crushes their team mate between equipment!
    Another come injurie is fingers getting crushed between equipment resulting in the loss if a finger. Ouchhhh
    Hopefully you find this helpful and you can learn a few tips or tricks yourself to hook and unhook your set of double trailers. Most importantly what not to do so you can avoid injury or death.

    If your dolly is at a slope somewhere and doesnt have air and you need to have it stay there you can use your air lines and set them down by the tires ,like a wheel chock. Also if your ever picking up a dolly from a yard and its in a slope with other dollies get close to one and if u can't lift it up because of the slope use the chains to pull it out that hill if your having trouble 👍 hopefully this makes sense and helps out .

      Thanks for the tips. Yes they make since. We definitely have done the chain to the back of the truck or trailer to pull it up from a grade. Curious who do you drive for? Stay safe and many blessings

    How do you crush your fingers if the handles are on the side? Do people not use them? Im new to trucking and am learning the saftey ropes around this trade. Would be awesome if I could get a response. 🤗

    • @SimpleLivin
      @SimpleLivin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people don't use the handles... which is silly. Others times drivers try to rush amd things are not lined up and the dolly starts rolling... smashing there hand between the equipment. Hooking doubles can be very dangerous

    Great video! And great tips in the comments too! Thank you! Got a question, Im an ow/op thinkinng on leasing to an independent contractor with fedex doing these doubles, what kind of rates should I expect per mile? Not my percentage but the actual rate fedex pays. Thanks in advance! Blessings.

    • @SimpleLivin
      @SimpleLivin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are welcome! Glad you found it helpful. We drive for a contractor so unfortunately I do not know the rate that fedex pays contractors. Just what I guy pays us. I drivers make between $.48-70 a mile. I know thats a big range but each own is different

    Why when you connect to doubles the trailers keep beeping

    • @SimpleLivin
      @SimpleLivin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fedex equipment has safety features that unil the air tanks are full a buzzer will go off. If there is a leak, it continues to go off after takes are full. They usually stop with in a minute or so

    Is backing doubles anything like a regular 53’ trailer or no?

    • @SimpleLivin
      @SimpleLivin  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely not. Legally you are not to back them. Can you yes. Does it take mega skill yes. They bend in the middle and get jacked easy

      @@SimpleLivin You have to train yourself to think double backwards and keep in mind where the converter dolly is at. It is possible, but not pretty.

    I have a semi truck driver's license class A and I have doubles and triples as the endorsements
    I was not able to get a job because I couldn't straight back a dolly converter to a pup and or small trailer any advice?

    • @SimpleLivin
      @SimpleLivin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Backing a dolly or short trailer takes time and practice. If you have a yard tractor and yard trailer maybe try back with that. I short trailer or dolly always responds quick. Slow and steady and small short turns of the wheel.

      You might try a company like xpo or another one that has their own driving school. Sometimes they put your in class for a few weeks to give you a refresh or teach doubles.

      There's xlp not that far for me in bridgeview I'm going to take a chance on it in the spring right now I'm working at UPS as a package handler I flunked their school so I'm just going to be patient and keep moving forward thank you thank you thank you so much I thought it was just me being stupid not being able to drive our backup attractor with a dolly converter but I didn't know it took practice I thought it was going to be too easy.

    • @SimpleLivin
      @SimpleLivin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are able to be a package handier durning the winter i would definitely stick it out. Xpo has a very good school. I (angela) went to it and is how I got my license. I have been driving for almost 13 years now. If it doesn't come after xpo I would it might not be for you and that's ok. Pulling doubles can be extremely dangerous. I have unfortunately witnessed major injuries including loss of life while hooking.
      I have a few other videos about double maybe check them out. Im here to help
