"If it's understandable, it's enough" is the most important thing when communicate in foreign language (unless you're student or employee that is expected to know that language). All the grammar and other stuff just make what you say sound more native-like but don't really change the meaning that much (yes, sometimes the meaning change but the other party normally understand what you actually mean).
Just gotta be able to get your point across, and then you'll be able to engage with the language more, and pick up more of it, and be able to get your point across better, and engage more, and pick up even more even faster...

Not only did she write the whole thing letter by letter, she also read it out loud. She's almost flawless, just gotta work on pronunciation
Honestly, even her pronunciation is surprisingly on point, I'd say. She's definitely much more skilled in English than the vast majority of native Japanese speakers I know who've tried learning it. She needs work before she could be called fluent, but nonetheless, I'd say she even beats Haachama when it comes to pronunciation. I'd love to see the two of them do English learning streams together, maybe with A-chan as well. Aside from Coco and the ID and EN crowd, they're definitely the top English-speakers in Hololive by a very wide margin.
@@Wyrdwad To be fair, I'm somewhat certain that Haachama's bad english is intentional to a point in order to fuel memes.
I'm not sure how good Haachama's english is but I'd put it above Lui-lui's even in pronunciation assuming Haachama stops trolling.

@@scavrefamndragonclaw9785 As someone who's taught English to Japanese students for many, many years, I'm inclined to disagree. Haachama's English comprehension is certainly WELL beyond any other current Hololive member's, there's no doubt about that -- I'd even go so far as to say she's functionally fluent. But when it comes to pronunciation, I don't think she's faking anything. When she REALLY TRIES -- such as in her original song "Infinity" -- she CAN pronounce English almost to the point of sounding native for a moment. But she has to really try; it does not come naturally to her. I don't think Haachama put much time/effort into pronunciation when studying English, electing instead to focus on comprehension and conversational fluency.
With Lui and A-chan, I feel they've put considerably more time/effort into practicing English pronunciation, but still need to work on comprehension and fluency -- kind of the opposite of Haachama's approach. This is a very common approach among Japanese students of English, as there's often a real desire to SOUND fluent, in order to leave a better first impression during interactions with foreigners.
Haachama, in typical Haachama fashion, simply didn't seem to put much stock in that. Who cares about first impressions? It's all about END RESULTS with her! Which I can totally respect. ;)

I fully expect based on how often she talks with EN and ID in english, online and offline, that Lui may well become an extremely solid bridge again between the branches of the company (specifically EN and JP, since ID seems to just be crammed to the brim with polyglots) and I am very excited for the day when lui goes from conversational to fluent levels of understanding.

@@villahermosasebastian8794 tbh it is hard to prove any argument about this but i watch a lot of lui stream and some of haachama full english stream and i still stand on my opinion. lui's collab with ID and EN really convincing for me. haachama's english is conversation lvl on the other side i believe lui could do an academic writing.

I also think lui is very confident which helps her a lot.
Its great because after coco left they had to rely so much on kiara/bae/sana/calli to facilitate interbranch collabs.

Aside from being understandable, if you can deliver it confidently (good diction is a plus), grammar doesn't really need to be strictly observed.
Wow, is Lui the best English speaker on the JP side? Subaru is pretty good as well, is anyone else at their level? Maybe Haachama?
It made me so happy that she spelt "a lot" correctly. Most English speakers spell it wrong.
As for the "don't" vs "can't" part at the end either works. If fact "don't" is the better option I think.
As someone who is not native, I am surprised to see you guys saying that the natives write "alot" instead of "a lot"
@@zaishijunior9455 It is far too common with native speakers. I do get a laugh though when they right click to correct the spelling (when whatever program they use says it is wrong) and change it to "allot".

Question for people that frequent her streams.... does she ever translate what she is doing into english? Or does she speak japanese and only speaks english when someone talks to her like here?
She's speaks almost entirely Japanese and like you suspected only speaks English with a strong enough prompt. It's not comfortable for her despite her strong comprehension.

@@reaperherpderp7782 Makes sense, I think clips are a good way of enjoying their content too. It goes without saying that being able to read chat and also follow along with the streamer is a big part of any live stream, regardless of what language it's in. Although if you ever did want to learn Japanese then IRyS is the best middle ground for both sides of the fence. JP bros like her since she so often double speaks in both JP/EN.
