    This shows perfectly what a huge role music has in making a movie good. The Mata Nui/Tuma fight felt a lot more impactful with this ACTUAL music.

    I'll always say that Bionicle should be fully revisited and given the quality movies it deserves. Better voice acting, better fight choreography, it would be a dream.

      I mean the mirimax movies other than being still early 2000s CGI, and thus more stiff than it should have been, those where still very accurate to the lore, stories, and even the depiction of the Bionicles was in line with the books.

    Man, the Legend Reborn depiction of Tuma is so far removed from the Tuma seen in other Bionicle media that I'm forced to assume they're wholly different characters.

    I still find it strange, that they decided to make these fleshier, more human like beings, look and sound more robot like than the original bionicle. And they did it then of all times when they already had 3 movies with individual character models. The only one where it would kinda make sense Its Mata Nui. Its strange

      I think it's because it was a different studio that made The Legend Reborn and they might have thought the characters being more accurate to the toys would be better for marketing.

      i agree with that first part. But about the second, mind you, James Arnold Taylor also did Kenobis voice in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, so, at least, in my opinion, he's a great voice actor, he just gets cast as too many annoying characters in mediocre shows (Doesn't help that he pretty much does the same voice for Berix and Johnny)

    • @APinchofBazel
      @APinchofBazel  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So it comes down to two major things.
      One, the software. You need something robust that lets you work with as many audio channels as you need, not just the basic two, as well as the ability to actually key your audio levels, since ducking them in and out is super important on something like a rescore where you want the dialogue to actually be audible over whatever music or SFX you introduce. Adobe Premiere, Avid Media Composer, and Final Cut Pro tend to be the big three programs, but they can all be kinda pricey. DaVinci Resolve’s got a free version and I hear that gives you a fair bit to work with, though I’ve never used it myself. I use Avid.
      The other important thing is actually acquiring the right copy of the film. So you’re probably used to stereo mixes, the standard two-channel audio from left and right. But if you really want to get nitty gritty, you need the actual full 5.1 surround sound mixes or higher, which gives you access to the 6+ audio channels of a more intricate mix. This is important, because if that surround sound mix is any good, _most_ of the original music is gonna be in the front-left and front-right channels, while the core sound (mainly dialogue) is gonna be in the center channel. Sounds tend to bleed between channels, but usually, if you nix those first two channels (and maybe the rear-left and right channels for good measure), you can get rid of _most_ of the original music from the movie altogether, and get free reign to add in whatever you want. Unfortunately those channels might have some other important SFX in them (as I had to deal with on the Puss in Boots videos), so you might have to try and key those effects in individually, but that’s just if you’re feeling super anal about it. For bare basics, just cut out everything but that center channel, usually Channel 3 on a 5.1 mix.
      Unfortunately the only way to _get_ these sound mixes is by either directly ripping your DVD/Bluray, or consulting the high seas and pulling a little yarr-harr-fiddledy-dee to track down files that contain them. The latter can be dangerous and legally dubious so I can’t in good conscious recommend it. Proceed at your own risk on that one.

    • @APinchofBazel

      There’s only one real leitmotif in the whole thing, and the movie abuses it to death. Outside of some unexpected sauce on the Tesara and hot springs sequences, the music is largely pretty understated and underdeveloped, with this fight being the worst offender.
      My biggest goal here was that, regardless of how much I had to slice up and reshuffle the music to do it, to make cues sync more directly to certain actions and push that much harder to propel the action forward, because I think the original score really failed to do that. Instead it meandered throughout what was already a pretty listless action scene.
      And it sucks because I’ve heard this composer’s work at least once before, in that old Imaginext pilot no one remembers. And there’s a much bigger push in that score than here.
