The relationship between Protestants and the Papacy is rapidly thawing. For the papacy to regain its lost power, it must secure the support of not only secular authorities but also Protestants. This is crucial because the U.S. is founded on Protestant principles, which contrast with those of the papacy. If the papacy wins over Protestants, it could have the support of both Protestants and secular authorities to carry out its agenda, just like during the Dark Ages from AD 538 - 1798.
