This monitor was supplied to me from Feelworld free of charge. This review and it's content was not reviewed or paid for by outside persons or manufacturers.
Hey Caleb, I just wanted to let you know that you are the first person EVER to instantly sell me on two tech related products!
First the Aputure Amaran F7 which I instatly bought two of after you said "USB-C powered" and "under 100"
And now this monitor, after you said "can power GH5" and "under 200"
You make me poor but god damn happy! Great timing on your videos and awesome selection of products lately, thank you!
Edit: I hope, you get a few bucks because of me buying via your Amazon link!
Well done Caleb!
I can't believe I just watched the whole video even when I've done a full review for the exact product! :)
I must say, you are excellent at finding items that are just on that fringe between cheap and good, for those of us on a budget. Please keep that up. Thanks.
That is one of my top goals here on the channel. Good without breaking the bank!
Got this about a month ago - CHANGED MY LIFE with the a6500 and now the a7iii. Absolutely love it and so much less than the SmallHD Focus.
This video autofocus is quite amazing LOL , the focus is even correct when Caleb move the arms around
5:43 - Anyone notice the A73 focused on the camera and monitor setup and then back to his face when he finished talking.
It's alive!
Yep my money is gone again thank to Caleb lol. You always find these good budget gear. Awesome job 👌🏿
Haha! I'm so sorry!! Thanks man!
Haha right?! I can't seem to hold on to any paychecks when he comes out with videos 😂
I've been on the fence about this monitor for months. Good to see some video reviews from creators I respect. Will probably end up picking one up. I am loathe to spend as much on a monitor as I do on my main lens, and I think this will fit my needs very well.
This angle is amazing. Was hoping if you'd do something like this when you made the new backdrop.
The setup is much improved on the first time you used this background. Getting closer, off to the side and letting the light spill all helps to tie it into the room with you. A couple more little accent lights for the dark spots over your right hand shoulder to balance it out a bit would help but it'd be very easy to go overboard and make it distracting.
Very cool Caleb! Thanks for sharing!! I hope SmallHD adds an "auto mirror" function soon to the focus!
I think this is great for any Sony users like myself. I tend to use my phone as a monitor to compose my shots in a sunny day. So this is great for the price.
Most definitely. Loving this thing on my sony bodies!
DSLR Video Shooter nice
Do you use your phone to replace an articulating screen if vlogging and in case you do, how well does it handle your needs?
Jeff W I use my phone only if I'm myself or as a monitor when it is too bright outside and I can't see my screen on the camera. Now I use the sony app, it lags a bit but it still come in handy especially the fact that you're able to playback to video you shot on your phone. Hope that helps. Any other questions let me know.
So it's a good enough solution to see what's in the frame, etc. when you're vlogging and pointing the camera towards you?
So happy to see another video from you Caleb. Im adding yet another gear to my wish list. I'll pick this up when i come back to the US for the summer.
I love Caleb's reviews. To the point, clean, thorough and informational. Thanks!
-Will
Great review, and very cool monitor! I'll likely be picking one of these up.
2 minutes into the video and I bought it. I'm crazy.
Hahaha! Nice!
How has it held up for you? I’m wanting to buy this
Tyler Just bought one today to use with my XT3... will report back soon!
Bought it 2 minutes before the video. Snap! Lol
Pretty much what I was looking for! Thank you for this great review!
Nice! Glad to have been of service!
I just got one of these based on your review - it is actually NICE for the price :) and the build quality is not that bad imo - Thanks
Idea/tip for vlogs: Make a hack for a cold shoe connected to the monitor to the side that has the ports (not the bracket side). Then when flipping the monitor your mic flips as well.
What timing! Been looking for a 7" after watching your reviews but I think this 5" guy will do me just fine. Thank you for this presentation👍
Btw I'm a fan of you, your knowledge, reviews, advice and know how tips. 🎥🎬 As far as your background...not a big deal for me. 👍
Happy to have been of service! And thank you for the kind words!
A MUST for Sony users! I've been using this monitor since it's release and it works better than I expected. I'm currently using it in a short film along with the Sony FS7 and it's WAY sharper, bigger and better than the included monitor especially for framing and nailing focus (and the colors are well calibrated)!
I think it will be a killer setup along with an a7III/a6500 or GH5 💣
I was looking at this monitor! That 12v option is killer
I just got this yesterday!! Can't wait to shoot with it. Great review!
I have this monitor for a while now and I’m totally satisfied. Yes it is plastic but there is plastic and plastic. I was surprised how the feel of that monitor is. I was really underwhelmed when I unboxed the the atomos samurai blade back in the days for which I spent about 800$ or so. The andycine is also bright enough to work in daylight.
LOVE IT! Gonna take a look at the A6 plus!
Im using this monitor like 2 months already very cheap and good ! you didnt talk about the focus peaking very handy
Am I the only one drooling over the Pocket Knife? 😛
I missed your reviews so much. I need mooooreeee.
More are coming!
Just got this today. An amazing monitor. I agree with everything you said. Another positive point, the response time is really good.
Great review as always, DIG the new studio angle. I purchased the ANDYCINE for features and price to use with
my Panasonic HC-X1. It supports 1080p camera output and 4k but the other UHD outputs do not show up on the monitor,
not huge issue as I usually shoot at the two supported outputs. I am happy with the build quality and quality of the monitor image.
Thanks man! Have you tried newer HDMI cables? Might take a look at HDMI 2.0 capable models to make sure.
THANKS, I didn't pay attention to the type just length. Great tip THANKS
Definatly buying this over the small HD
Best video quality video I've seen from DSLR video shooter. Wow, super crisp and clean. also, love that video monitor too! great review.
Caleb, love this intro you have now. Great video!
Bought the A6 plus, just came today. Loving it. Plus, when the sun shade is on it just looks amazing lol. I suddenly feel like im in "pro" zone lol.
Hey Joe, what is the difference with the plus version
@@handyveganreviews2556 It has USB-C port power input, so you can power it from any DC 5V supply like a powerbank. It can power your Camera as well. It has full touchscreen interface. Better firmware/OS. It has S-Log2/3, V-log, Log-C native support, you can load LUTS via SD card and preview in real time. Assist features like waveform, vectorscope, false color, auto-mirror functionality. I didn't own the original version but I adore this monitor!
Sorry I'm Joe Riggs, replying from my other TH-cam account. The one I bought all the gear for. And yeah, the touchscreen alone is worth it, instead of having to use a dial on the side. And being able to power it from USB-C if needed in a bind is great, and I bought a adapter so I can power my camera from the Monitor. I haven't even played with all the features yet. But i'm glad i bought it. Also has 360 degree tilt arm and sun shade and great hardshell carrying case.
I am talking about the A6 Plus Version 2. Sorry about that. In my original comment from a month ago I hadn't yet realized I had the v2. So yeah mine is A6 Plus V2. I think V1 has some of those features, but not all. The V2 is $199 retail. Got it a little cheaper on Amazon.
@@fundamental5117 Thank you for your respone I may get on to these. If I do I will use your aff link
Awesome!!! Always bringing the good stuff! Amazon here I come!!
Looks good. The flippable feature is a big plus.
What's the quality of the arm like, and its connection to the screen? This looks amazing, but it always looks a little slanted like the screen is too heavy for the arm, if that makes sense? Thanks for the video as per usual Caleb!
It's not to heavy for the arm but like he said as you rotate the monitor it just seems to loosen the tightening screw.
He gave a very good description of the arm quality, but I've just noticed it after a couple of film projects. It could definitely be stronger - but it works alright even with the heavier Sony NP-F batteries.
Thanks for the advice, every video i've seen of it it just looks like it's buckling under its own weight a bit! Good to know that it's generally ok, will make a nice addition to my a6300 filming setup :)
Was really waiting for this review, thanks
This looks to have exactly the same engine as that Neewer 7 inch field monitor you recommended for $140. The UI is exactly the same, it has the "Field Monitor" text that pops up, and the buttons look the same.
This monitor has been a dream, I was able to get beyond 1 Hour continuous recording with no overheating in extreme sun. I can’t seem to get the zebras working tho🤦🏿♂️
I still like my focus. Good OS, no latency issues and hi-bright.
Definitely a better angle! Great video, as always.
Heard of it a long time ago. Was going to buy it but still havent done so. Good to see a review of it.
Thanks Michael!
I got the Feelworld F6 witch is the same monitor... Loving it with my Sony a6500!
Looks great. I'm ording it now to use with my BMPCC4K
Dylan White How’d it turn out? I’m thinking about buying one for mine too
You finally got one. I saw your comment awhile back on a video about this lol
Yeah I was having issues with the monitor until I realized several of my HDMI cables were dying lol.
With these options at this price, it's the best monitor for Sony cameras.
"The sunhood holder or whatever..." LOL. Great honest review!
Thanks Nate! ;-)
Dude, great video and I'm def interested in this monitor for my 80D. I'm not digging the autofocus on the a7III though. This isn't the only video I've seen where focus is *just okay*.
Is the link an affiliate link?
Because if yes I´m gonna buy it with the link as soon as I buy the a6500
Yep! Thanks for thinking of me Noah!
No dummy batteries cable included, please update
No problem, i wanna help great TH-camrs whenever I can so that they can create more of the stuff I love
so If I do buy that monitor, does that mean I should buy a battery for that monitor too?
Since I don't have any sony cameras, I don't have any sony batteries.
hey, responding even though you commented this 2-years ago: yes, I just bought this and it does not come with a battery and I'll have to buy some before it can be used. 🙃
Just FYI for anyone wondering.
Great! Finally an alternative to the hd focus.
Boom!
Great review as usual thanks for doing the leg work for us
I might need a couple of these!!!
This looks pretty awesome!! Might need this for my vlogging setup! :O
Great Video, I am seriously considering buying this monitor ! Very informative !
Have this monitor and love it. Great bang for the buck!
Nice! So great.
Thank you good sir!
-Will
Great little monitor
Great review! I have the Feelworld F6, which is an identical monitor. Very good product for the price. I have exactly the same thoughts about it.
Why I choose this monitor is you can power your camera as well
I don't have to bring two types of batteries
One charge for monitor and camera
awesome
Does it have touch to focus?
This will probably be the last time I buy cheap gear to save money. My F6 monitor came with a hot shoe mount that didn't even fit my GH5. It falls right out even after tightening it all the way. The right side of the screen flickers and buzzes decently loud. I understand it's made cheap, but I need my monitor to at least be able to stay attached to my camera.
I bought this! I'm having the hardest time powering it off of the DSTe 770 batteries but the wall power works fine. Hoping customer service can help me.
I just need an external monitor because I use a teleprompter (film talking head TH-cam videos) and I need to see my display. BUT I want to be able to still see the display in the camera when I go to start filming.
QUESTIONS:
1. What is the point of all the fancy stuff this screen can do if I just fix everything in post with luts and what not?
2. Can any of these external monitors start/ stop recording
3. What would be the best one to fit my needs?
Sweet! So this is 1080p the Image should be better than the focus monitor!
Caleb! There's no latency. It's the camera! Use a Blackmagic camera if you don't want latency, instead of a prosumer photography camera with video features.
I have the F6 and it’s awesome. I velcroed a piece of Lexan to protect the screen as I’ve seen another review that mentions slight bumps to the screen can cause slight blemishes. I also bought the 6AA battery adapter but used Energizer Lithium’s and it gave me about 8hrs of use while being lighter than the large battery. Now, lithiums are expensive but it’s great for a backup that’s guaranteed to work when you need it. I use mine in the dark with the brightness all the way down, connected to an IR modified camera so you may get slightly less record time.
Thanks for the review Caleb, I made sure to use your affiliate link.
Really impressive little thing! Now I'm torn between that and the Lilliput A7S. The ability to use only one battery for both camera and monitor is amazing and simplifies a lot. But then again a 7" screen on the Lilliput over the 5" one on that... If you had to choose which one would you pick? I'm more focused on narrative work than vlogging.
Sweet little thing!
Question: can I use this on my canon 90D? The cable to charge the camera ?
Great. Thanks!
Nice monitor, I think I found the one I’m looking for.
Do I get the DC cable in the to power the monitor from the wall outlet?
I like your setup 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Christian!
Hi, great review as always! Your comparison video of 9 camera monitors highlighted the Bestview as one of the best ones under 200$, will this Andycine beat that one?
Hi Caleb! Love all your reviews and bought this video monitor. I'm rockin the videomicro on the side like you and noticed a buzzing coming from the monitor. the micro picks it up easily, especially since it's so close. do you notice any sound coming off the monitor or do you think I have a faulty unit?
What a great find, Unfortunately I went ahead and ordered this to find out the dummy battery won't be delivered until JUNE! 40+ days to delivery...
Thanks for the review!
I was the first one to buy this monitor
How are the colors of this monitor? Looking from the video the colors in the 2 screen dont't seem quite match... any thoughts?
OBSERVATION: Caleb. I couldn't help, but notice the screen is not locking down *Level* to the arm tie down metal mounting swivel bracket. Is the swivel bolt *bent ?* The monitor looks to be ascew ????
great stuff! $180 for SmallHD
Can you add LUTs? Or at least boost the colors so you can see if it´s correctly lit when filming in LOG
Thanks so much for the review, Caleb! I had been considering a SmallHD Focus, which I know is nicer and has a better UI, but at basically $550 cheaper, I pulled the trigger on the A6. I think the monitor itself will do well, but mine came without the black rubber spacer that goes between the monitor and the tilt-arm, so there's no tension to hold the monitor in place - it just flops around. I've written to them and we'll see if they get back to me, otherwise I'll have to return it. Have you heard of anyone having similar issues?
Thanks again for all the knowledge you put out - much appreciated! :)
Does it support luts ? That would be freaking amazing at that price..
Yuset, unfortunately this is not a recorder; so it cannot change the image your record from the camera.. so no... no LUTs.
It's only a display... how could this put a LUT on your footage? :P
Jas Bataille they have displays with built in luts that don't burn on the file but give you how your shot could look with a on screen lut..
Jas Bataille go check out small hd monitors
check out the Andycine A6 Plus, to begin shipping this week. $219, touch screen, SD card slot for 3D Lut: andycine.com/andycine-a6-plus-5inch-touch-ips-1920x1080-4k-hdmi-camera-monitor-3d-lut-camera-video-field-monitor-p2026481.html
Great Review, purchased one after watching this, used it this weekend at a wedding and holy crap....it was amazing! Amazon is out of stock with no ETA, is the feelworld F6 the same product the same monitor?
like the setup
Did you tried a tv with hdmi as a monitor? My camping tv with hdmi-in is very good and I do not see any delay...
Monitor is awesome in every way EXCEPT it won’t display my Canon 70D image full screen.. so it’s basically just a 3” image on a 5” screen.. so I’m forced to return it.. Can you recommend a monitor that WILL play the 70D image full screen? Thanks!!
Gonna buy this. Gonna but this NOW. :D
How do you charge it? Can you charge the dummy battery?
I have this monitor and have been loving so far. Thanks for some of the advanced features that I have not tried yet. I do have a Panasonic camera wondering if that dummy battery option could work for my G85?
Cool monitor !
filmmaking guide English is a strange language, you said it has a bad white balance i think 😜
Giuseppe Restuccia haha
You should mention that the Sony cannot "face detect af" when connected to hdmi.
Agreed, its really a bummer for Sony. Have been looking for optimum solutions for this.
The only method so far, is to record externally via an external monitor i.e Atomos Ninja V which is a costly solution for some of us.
@@shutterNpixels booooo. I was ready to buy this budget monitor but I guess I'll use the money towards an atmost ninja v now.
@@rattoh well frankly I got this monitor out of tight budget to improve compositioning and that horrendous a6500 dimming LCD screen when i shot 4k.
I would say for its price points, this is pretty worthy as atomos is an external recorder, whereas andycine / feelworld is just an external monitor. Atomos features may overkill that you might not need most of them.
Depending on your type of filmmaking, i would say Sony AF is great even without the face recognition and it will take a breeze for you to get used to. Saves so much of my production time in terms of review shots and adjusting composition.
can you see Audio Levels on this monitor? I noticed that you had levels on your camera, but it wasn't showing on the monitor :/
How long the battery last when you have the dummy battery on the monitor vs when you don't use it?
Can that latency ruin the focus of a moving shot?
How is it in daylight outdoors?
