    I don't have a need for a rig like that at this time, but that's super slick and badass. I've recently purchased an R6 on a deal and have been getting back into photography and video, and I've noticed battery life is slim compared to my old 60D. So something like this may be in the future for my setup.

    In terms of connecting the battery to the camera, does it power directly via USB C or is it always via dummy battery & d-tap?
    Also for the dummy battery you will have to keep the camera battery door opened. is the base plate elevated enough for it to sit unrestricted on a level surface?

    Great video! I have an R5 C too and watching that battery timer go down (even when not recording) gives me anxiety.
    Been contemplating for awhile but now I’m tempted to get this accessory after seeing your video. I mostly do run and gun hybrid shooting. Filming with this plate accessory is quite intuitive but for photo it might be clunky as it blocks the viewfinder, and one would have to spend time detaching the arca plate and stowing it away.
    I’m considering clipping a small rig v mount plate on my waist instead and tether a long-ish usb c cable to the camera only when I need to go film mode. Wondering if you had any experience doing that and if it worked well. Thanks!

    I don't quite understand why you want to mount the battery in front of the camera's screen. It is much more convenient to place the battery under the camera, like a battery grip. Two rods can go vertically with two plates attached to them - the lower one for mounting the battery and the upper one for the camera.

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's all personal preference. I like having the battery on the back because it balances out the weight with a lens and monitor. You can easily pull the screen out and use it like normal with this setup too.

  • @ForestCinema
    @ForestCinema ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry, but these dummy plates completely ignore the whole point of a V-mount battery by not providing any power distribution. Look up the Nitze N21-D6 for an affordable and practical battery plate. It’s mini V-lock sized, AND it has USB-PD built in, alongside two standard P-Taps for powering your monitor, wireless and focus motors, all from the plate.
    If you’re plugging your rig devices into your battery… just… I’m so sorry, that’s gotta be awkward any time you have to do a battery swap. I can go from one battery to the next in about 10 seconds with my distribution plate, and it’s just as small as this thing. My camera doesn’t even power down during swaps because I leave an OEM battery onboard for continuous power.
    Compactness of your rig for compactness’ sake is getting out of hand on TH-cam, this is clearly aesthetics-first rigging, at the expense of practicality in a real working environment.

      Why buy multiple fancy ported batteries when you can buy one good distro plate and a bunch of simple batteries and a proper charger?

      Everyone's needs are different. Some people are just looking for a simple battery solution that is flexible. I agree, if you are rigging up your camera and have lots of accessories on a regular basis then a plate with ports makes sense. Some people just need this once in a while or really want to have a smaller rig. It's nice to have options.
