    JT-R here w/andersen hitch and max tow. w/5k 21' camper towed 1100 miles each way over the Rockies (Denver to Aspen) route so a lot of up/dowm climbing ... on those 7% grades up/down for a few hours kills the MPG and on the steep climbs it tough to get above 50mph bur otherwise after 25k miles still glad to have made each piurchase. one change I did make was at 20k miles I changed out diff oil for some 75-140

    I tow 5200 lbs camper, wife, 2 kids and a bunch of gear with my sport willys edition. I added the class vi mopar hitch and mopar brake controller.

    My 30 footer is 7k-7.5k lbs loaded and it goes nice. I am a professional driver so what I feel comfortable towing is a bit different then others. The truck is stable when properly set up even lifted.

    Great vid Mike. Isn't it fun how many random people ask questions about the Gladiator towing at gas stations? You've had the same experience and conclusions that I've had with a similar setup I also added airbags to reduce the squat.

    I just bought a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon with the 3.6L and love it! However, I live in CO and I would never tow something like that going over all of our high mountain passes. Living in OK, I might do it but the payload in these little trucks is limited. Tow with caution. I know Mopar makes a trailer brake but you lose your 12V so I like your idea of the Redarc. Thx for the video.

      @@drewsmudemyoozik The Gladiator Rubicon I had was rated to tow up to 7K lbs. and the max payload was around 1,400 lbs. Because the payload is on the lower side, I would keep the camper around 5K lbs. and no longer than 25 ft. Double axle and weight distribution hitch will help a lot. The hitch weight is ~15% of total camper weight plus the passengers, pets, beer, etc. so payload goes quickly. Just get in the right lane and take it easy over the high passes. You're not going to win any races but you'll get over. Airbags help too but not necessary. Also, if you don't have a 4x4 (I assume you'll have your Gladiator) as your tow vehicle, get chains in the winter months. CO State Patrol will check. The Gladiator is one bad ass ride but if you want a bigger camper, I would definitely look at a 1500 and up. Good luck my friend.

    285hp with 260lb-ft torque. would you tow 5k in the mountains with that? From personal experience, let me tell you-- if you are a nice person, you will pull over to let people pass you, alot. its a v-6, the truck is already pretty heavy, and it just doesn't have the power. There is no difference between how this toes and how a hemi grand cherokee tows... again, from personal experience.

      I held 69MPH on Honey Creek Pass 2 days ago. I have no complaints. I don't need a $100,000 dually to tow a 24 foot camper. Thanks for watching !

    If your gvwt is 7500 lbs and your trk is 5500 lbs you can only legally can pull 2000 lbs trailer. If a d.o.t officer pull you over it could cost you thousands of dollars in fines. Not sure one your vehicle but I would check with local state d.o.t officer. If I were you.

      Towing capacity and GVWR are two different things. Thanks for watching.

    • @AstroNerd
      @AstroNerd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Sport S with the max tow package has a max towing capacity of 7,650. In this configuration, the JT’s GCVR is 12,800 or the maximum the combo of the Jeep and trailer cannot excess this. The vehicle’s GVWR is 6,250 (the Jeep, its contents, passengers and cargo in the bed) and hitch weight cannot exceed this. It’s worth noting that if max out the Jeep’s GVWR and max out the towing capacity, you’ll be over the GCWR by its curb weight is about 4,700. So as Mike mentioned, towing capacity is not GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) by 1,100. It’s not just about one specification like towing capacity but many others (payload, axel ratings, etc.). It’s important to know all these numbers and what you Jeep and camper weighs…get it weighed on a truck scale.

    • @LifeIsAJourney4Us
      @LifeIsAJourney4Us 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Not sure you understand towing. You are mixing up your numbers. the 7650 is towing capacity. GCWR is gross combined and for the Gladiator Max tow that is 12,800. The gladiator GVWR is 6250 which means IF he has the gladiator at its GVWR then he can tow up to 6550. The Max tow usually delivers at a curb weight of 4800 pounds and if you add 300 pounds of people you are at 5100 and then maybe 600 pounds of tongue weight you are at 5700 and maybe 300 of cargo you are at 6000 leaving 6800 for the trailer. He is only towing 6000 which means with his 6250 GVWR gladiator he is well below thew 12800 GCWR.
