I grew up on this show. I’ve been actually rewatching the episodes because that’s how much I loved this show. I’m SUPER disappointed that no one has been able to fund this project. Girlfriends was truly underrated just like living single.

Why all the comments on who she dates when most black men in the industry don’t date or marry black women and most of you give them zero grief for it?
So "powerful" black men (even the ones living in the ghetto) can date or marry whomever they want (as long as its a woman) and express their disdain for black women (ala OJ Simpson) but, in order to keep from being accused of being this swirler you refer to, black women should stay faithful to the race and only date and marry from the very small pool of mainly highly dysfunctional black men left that havent been taken by white women? @Craig D Jones through my findings, it is absolutely a false narrative. We do see black men with other races but it is no where near the majority and this includes the main subject..the black male athlete,. Being accused of overwhelmingly marrying non black women when it is literally the opposite.
Once you start looking up wives and girlfriends of athletes they are hands down mostly black and not by a slim margin at all.
But you are lying. The overwhelming majority of black men in any industry, who are married are married to black women. Stop lying. If grief is given to one sex, especially on this issue, its given to both. You're a liar, period.
I don't have an issue with dating or marrying outside the black race, it becomes an issue when black men or women have preferences because there is usually self -hate=image and they place white men or women on a level of accomplishment.

This was one of the best shows and nothing has replaced it. I watched Sex in the city and it was ok, but did not hold a candle to Girlfriends. It was magnificent.

Unpopular opinion but William was the best character on the show because he always let them know how crazy they all were. He was the voice of reason. He even said that there was nothing good about Toni and there really wasn't. I was trying my best to find one redeeming quality about Toni when rewatching it on Netflix and there is none. She may have been gorg but her personality took that away for me.

Because of Will, my boyfriend would sometimes watch the show, he thought Will’s part was creative and made him so funny. I agree! I hate how it ended so abruptly, leaving us hanging. I just wish they could come back and give us that happy ending we so desired.

If the L word could get revamped and a reality show, why can’t Girlfriends? Showtime executives are missing out rn. They can develop a storyline with a 10 year time skip, starting with a flashback to Aaron coming home to Joan, and the lives of the other characters. If they write Lynn to be strong character with a thriving music career like the L word did with Alice, it’ll provide balance to the friend group remaining strong.

Actually when UPN was bought out and was merged into The CW, the CEO/marketing wanted “universally appealing shows” aka white people shows. So all those beloved shows we once watched went into the trash.
Also, the writers strike didn’t help this at all. The company found any reason to cancel the show, to bring in new pilot ides to the masses.
