Agitated Animals are so brutal early on, lost a perfectly fine Fort to it. Too be fair, building almost entirely above ground while also mass deforesting may have been a bad idea…
One silver lining to untamed wilds that I’ve noticed is that you normally never have to worry about meat. The meat walks up to your front door and even removes some of the mouths you need to feed before they get butchered. It’s a 2-for-1 deal.
13:09 Last thing I remember, I was Running for the door I had to find the passage back To the place I was before "Relax," said the night man "We are programmed to receive You can check out any time you like But you can never leave"
To establish contact with more places/civilizations, you can can send some dwarves to demand tribute and that seems to do it without causing a war or anything for the most part. This might help you get more visitors from those places.
Yeah, as of the most current version, demanding tribute will never cause a war. If anything, the thing you really need to worry about is getting overzealous with demanding tribute, leading to every new season causing 10+ trade wagons to show up without diplomats to request goods from. Sounds OK, until you realize that your fort has turned into an endless wagon train of merchants hauling in crap you don't want and bringing pitifully small amounts of gold to buy with. If you _really_ need to sell _a lot_ of stuff and are buying very little, and you don't mind spending 30 - 45 minutes dicking around with the trade menus every season, then it can work out, though, lol.
DF does have a "hand out flyers" option! It consists of sending an unarmed belligerent "messenger" in their own squad to "demand tribute" (presumably via their patronage) from uncontacted civilizations. This gets me caravans from nearby civs, but I haven't had success with natural tavern and library visitors. It seems like forts just get those from the start or they don't, no matter how many polite advertisements you send to other civs. Oh well. They mostly just show up to steal artifacts anyways.
@hoodie hair I rationalize it from a role-playing perspective that dwarves are rather rude and instead of getting house warming gifts from neighbors, they go out and demand it. Like instead of getting the free casserole from the old lady neighbor they all march up to her door and demand it.
Ah, these stories give me confidence the morals I can find being: when hungry eat a horse, don't bury the dead , and add 'hand out flyers' mission to the game via mods XD
Fun project! Such tragic little stories occurred along the way. I always thought it would be cool to make an ultra-luxury hotel (that happens to be riddled with ghosts) in Dwarf Fortress. No idea if you could make it pleasant enough to live in to make up for all the paranormal activity.
It’s refreshing to see how many creators (you included) don’t frame dwarf deaths as failures where so many games are about keeping your individuals safe, this game can be brutal really fast and it’s cool to see how you can still manage to pull it off through hardships. I’ve not had much success on the wild biomes but I’m hoping to try one next time! Thanks for the videos and ideas!
I really liked this multi-story style! Really felt like I could follow the overarching story a lot better than if they had come out 2-3 days apart, Loving the content, please do keep it up!
Another great video, keep it up, that Rocket notification in the background at 2:20 caught me off guard, thought I would have to stop watching and get back to work haha
This started as a Monster Hunter spinoff and ended as a legit Stephen King book. I don't know if it's the best fort yet, tavern-cavern still beats it, but it's definitely the best story.
I have subscribed to like 100 different channels on youtube, but only your new videos put a damn big smile on my face. Thanks for making so much amazing content!
My current fort has the same problem, turns out that in some cases if your embark area overlaps with the ocean you just won't ever get visitors. My last fort constantly had 50+ useless nobles visiting, so for me it's a nice change of pace.
ive had a similar thing with 0 visitors when settling in a coastline, then read in the forums that there is a bug where settling in the coast makes the game think you are an isolated island, so only your own civ shows up
Without a craft dwarf my forts would all fail early on. I use the shells from my fisher dwarfs for trade for food and beer as I literally hate the early farming it's so weak and you don't have forces to push deeper and darker 😅
great video, but I'm confused. don't ropes count as "chains" as far as being used to make a well is concerned? I swear I've used pigtail ropes to make wells before.
I embarked on a "Terrifying" biome once and had lots. I went in expecting to lose to scary werecreatures, zombies and necromancers. You know, monsters. My doom ended up being back to back herds of bloodthirsty rhinos. :|
@@Derkson i remember that i got rekt when i embarked close to necromancer tower because zombies + necromancer attacked me quite quickly and i didnt had military set up properly yet. Zombies were fully armored with weapons so my dwarf poorly equiped were nor quite ready...
What are some of the difficulty settings you use to get attacked by over 30+ animals and animal people at the start of the fort? Im looking to make things more difficult in my games
This is what happens if you take any Untamed Wilds biome and cut down 50 trees, I don't think the difficulty setting affects this particular dynamic. I guess you can put in on 'hard' to be "safe." Edit: Do note how killing a wave spawns another, immediately. Horrible mechanic, totally gamey, incentivising you to keep the last specimen of a hostile group around.

No such things as bad ideas. Only !FUN! ones.
I started a fort last night. Literally second day giant crow killed everyone lol.
Quick tip if animals you cant deal with are the problem use traps especialy in long single rectangle wide tunnel

You seem like the type of fella who sees a glass that’s half full, says fuck it and Smashes it so everyone can have glass
You can harvest meat by going to the caverns. But, military training is sped up since the dorfs get battle exp.

How terrifyingly accurate of Dorf Fort to refer to a stepdad as a passing acquaintance.

Oooo, the Hotel Dwalifornia sounds like a fun project itself!
This short-form, GUI-light style is so unique among DF tubers and I've really been enjoying the contrast.

Holy crap those agitated attacks were intense! I wouldn't have the patience to suffer through them that long!

i hear 'demand one-time tribute' is a decent way to start getting contact from other civs that seem to be ignoring you
yeah I thought they would be mad at me if I tried that but apparently they don't mind too much

Fun fact, you dont actualy heed just a chain for a well, a rope made of any cloth at a clothing workshop will work too!

5:53 - Dumat Eturbomrek, militia commander: I had a bath. I do not see the bliss in this
hahaha
RIP Uzol, slayer of birds. A true dwarven hero.

How do you keep coming up with those hilarious descriptions, I could never!
So dark yet so hilarious
What a shame. Ay?

This is like building a hotel on the coast of Sentinal Island and being surprised that trouble would occur.
Wow a 13 minute long one! How wonderful!

you have outlandish patience with those agitated animal attacks lol
YAY MORE HOODIE HAIR CONTENT
Major amounts of Dwarven blood spilled... all for a hotel nobody wanted to visit
rock and stone, brothers
12:51 you need to demand one-time tribute, but maybe you already know that. Think of it as if you were soliciting them to buy timeshares.
Loved the new format (and the video)
Great video as always
That was truly hilarious, looks like I'll be perusing your channel today. Cheers!

i really enjoyed this one, well done
I'm starting to think this might not be an ideal spot for a hotel
Your videos are hilarious mate, good job! :)
awesome stories this was great
Always love your dorf videos
Great storytelling.

They do but my ropes were also in the wagon
@@hoodiehair ah, yep, that'd do it
Hey hh. It's good to hear from you again. Your voice is kinda goals, you ever gotten that one before?
This was such an epic story. Must've taken a ton of micro-managing all those fights. Inspiring.
Great video
Great sorry telling
And damn those were some pissed off animals!
love your videos thanks hoodie hair
need to re-market the hotel as a big game hunting lodge
new hoodie hair wahoo
What a treat
god damn how wild is the land you settled on its just animal after animal
This video is such a win
Lake and ocean biomes will never get visitors. It's a bug that's been around for a long time unfortunetly.
sheesh, what's with that location and the wildlife, that was so brutal
Really good video
Hahaha holy shit man, how did you manage to get such a wild map? Mines are always so quiet and peaceful.
Agitated animals are super overtuned atm. Sweet video though
Not sure but I think the quality of the room the tavern is in plays an important role in getting visitors?
Lmfao. This was great. Thanks for the content! :)
Im suprised that there was so many agitated animals. it is some kind of setting to make this kind of onslaught or embarking on specific type of biome?
I embarked on a "Terrifying" biome once and had lots. I went in expecting to lose to scary werecreatures, zombies and necromancers. You know, monsters.

How did you custom named your fort?? Great vids ❤ thanks for sharing
Are the wilds more savage in the steam version? I dont remember the term 'agitated' in vanilla
This was so good! Your content is incredible, hh : )
Wells can be built using ropes?
love your uploads as always no fckn interest in this game but boy u make it seem really cool and fun
Soooo... cage traps... help a lot
whos agitating all these animals, thats the real question
Bob Dylan's 115th dream...
I thought you could demand one time tribute to initiate contact. they will just respond with no but wont declare war on you over it?
Is it me or is the tourism industry getting more and more rough?
One little comment: Where hospital?
:3
nice 13 mins long
I love this longer form content.
Great storytelling.
