Very apt for what I’ve been attempting - making beads. Big and small. After I punch some large dimples around the rims (solid disk, not filigree), the rims become wavy, thus hard to fit halves together. So, after edges have been sanded, filed, and agonized over, then finally soldered where I can force them to touch, I fashion a wire braid and solder it around the bead’s edge (rim). This hides the gaps where the halves didn’t fit well. The result is interesting, but would never sell in a fine jewelry store. To start, I’ve drilled center holes, thus when the bead (large in this case) is complete, I fashion a wire through the center hole and up twisting into a bale. If the bead is copper I like to finally sand it off with 0000 steel wool. This highlites the bumps I added to begin. Now I’m going to try your filigree bead. I recently made a different sort of flat filigree pendant with a stone soldered on. Since I’m a rank beginner, these are good accomplishments.
Now thats the challenge I've been looking for. Thanks Soham!! Now if only RIO would sell some patience I might get it done without getting a migraine. Lol.

Do you think it is best to cut the ingot into strips, then roll ? or roll the full ingot and then cut, its 75mm long, 50mm wide and 6mm thick, the durston coming tomoz, so be able to start making stuff, going to do your forged bangle first I think, thanks soham
hi, another question off your favourite subscriber, im still waitin for some equip to come, I will be working with silver, but eventually want to work with gold, I just cut a scrap ring, flattened it, annealed it, and was going to stamp something on the inner side, just practice really, but it didn't go that soft, and the stamp hardly showed, so my question is, are there different techniques between working on silver and gold, or are the techniques similar, thanks anyones help be appreciated

you make everything look easy soham believe me, just melted down some silver into a little ingot, about 8mm thick, I got a cheap rolling mill, cost me £100, it is too thick to go through, when you open the mill out, to take the 10mm, the two rollers on the side don't touch so the things don't turn, gutted, I didn't think a mill would not be able to do something 10mm thick, should of bought a better one
what size metal can your mill roll soham ? om melting ingots down, and my mill cant do it and its only 7mm thick, is that because its a poor mill or is that the norm ? thanks

ok, your right, its hard pouring a full flat ongot with out getting some im perfections in it, the durston came before best five hundred quid spent, Im making a twisted bangle as we speak, out of silver, just came to solder it, using propane gas gun, the solder didn't want to melt, then half the bangle just melted on me, I thought hard solder would have a lower melting point than stirling silver, am I doing something wrong do you think ? im going to post a video next few days showing my set up

most of my problems, stemming from trying to melt my own silver down, for the price, im prob just better, ordering it in the form I need it in, save all th messing, trying to make wire through the mill and its coming out like a banana
ye, i got iy for £100 second hand, its a cooksons, the cheapest one, gutted all my stuff arrived, was going to to your forged bangle, and my mill cant handle a 6mm ingot, suppose you get what you pay for, thanks
the only reason sterling would turn pink would be if you put steel binding wire in the pickle, or if you placed or removed the item with steel tweezers.
this would be a "back set" setting, make the filigree to the shape of the stone with claws at the back, push the stone in, then push the claws over, i will do one soon, am in the process of moving house and studio is in turmoil
i suspect it is a poor mill, it should handle a 7mm ingot easily. mine is a durston 230 roma, you usually get what you pay for in a mill, good ones are usually expensive, but worth it in the long run.

the flux does not stick to the charcol
i like the idea. you could just leave a portion unsoldered, and push the stone (pearl) in and push the portion back in place and leave it unsoldered.

it is easier to cast the ingot size you want to work with than to cut down a bigger one
stick the paper through about 8mm and fold it around the mandrel then it will stay on
