    At last! At 80 I despaired that any "religion" would embrace my beloved plants and animals. With that there was no place for me either. With this viewpoint I see where they still exist and far beyond just serving humans in the here and now. No more regarding them as just "things" with no place in "church", they are indeed part of a magnificent and infinitely intricate Church. The individual beings I have encountered here are still there along with an eternity of beings so vast I can barely form thought around it.

    What of garden pests and other organisms that harm plants? “Bad” bugs in the garden, powdery mildew on roses, blight on trees? I’ve long wondered why the constant struggle in the garden against things that would destroy it……
    Without having the words for it till now, I’ve wondered if there are negative correspondences too…that come from the various negative thoughts of humans(?)
    Thank you all for all you do!

    • @offTheLeftEye
      @offTheLeftEye  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, shefo -- "negative correspondences." Swedenborg talks about both negative and positive correspondences, so that water can be a damaging flood, or it can be life-giving and clarifying. And he talks about how animals can be strong (positive) or destructive (negative). I always try to think about how the "negative" things in nature must fit into the ecosystem SOMEhow, and provide a balance -- or reveal a deficit, like the fact that many diseases are actually due to vitamin/nutrition deficiencies. Interesting to ponder -- thanks for adding to the conversation!

      Hi Jim -- Great question. The misuse of physical resources that were created by God corresponds to the misuse of spiritual resources that were created by God. For instance, there are religious ideas that had their origin in God's truth, and yet people used those ideas as weapons to dominate others instead of to help people. We discuss that further in this playlist, "God and Evil" th-cam.com/video/ifpXbWeUh5E/w-d-xo.html

    Hello Curtis,, Good video friend. Deism was a metaphysical theory developed by Aristotle. The early Chritstains borrowed certain aspects of deism to form the basis of their theology. Deism was also widely taught by the Freemasons during the American Revolution, that's why so many of the Founding Fathers made mention of it. I wonder Did the ancient Egyptains uses correspondences in their hieoglyphs? Always enjoy your videos Curtis. Thank you!!

    • @offTheLeftEye
      @offTheLeftEye  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for filling us in on some of the history of Deism, Randy. I (Chara) have a tough time keeping all my "-isms" straight! Yes, Swedenborg does mention hieroglyphs as partaking of correspondence. I'll see if I can find some quotes for you on that!

    • @offTheLeftEye
      @offTheLeftEye  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Here's one, Randy, from Swedenborg's book called "Sacred Scripture." Subsection 2 mentions hieroglyphics, but thought I'd give you the context of the whole thing. I don't think he ever goes specifically into what individual hieroglyphs correspond to.....
      "20. 4. The spiritual meaning of the Word has not been recognized before. It was explained in Heaven and Hell 87-105 that absolutely everything in the physical world corresponds to something spiritual, as does absolutely everything in the human body. However, the nature of this correspondence has been unknown until the present time, even though it was common knowledge in ancient times. For the people who lived in those times, the knowledge of how things correspond to each other was the very essence of knowledge. This knowledge was so universal that it governed the writing of all their scrolls and books.
      "[2] The Book of Job, which is an ancient work, is full of correspondences. So were the Egyptian hieroglyphs and the fables of the earliest peoples. All the ancient churches had practices that symbolized heavenly things. Their rituals, as well as the regulations underlying their worship, were made up entirely of correspondences. The same held true for everything about the church among the children of Jacob - their burnt offerings and sacrifices were correspondences even with respect to details. So were the tabernacle and everything in it. So were their feasts - the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Tabernacles, the Feast of First Fruits. So too was the priesthood of Aaron and the Levites as well as the sacred garments of Aaron and his sons. So also were all the laws and judgments that had to do with their worship and life.
      "[3] And since divine things become manifest in this world by means of correspondences, the Word was written entirely by means of them. That is why the Lord, speaking as he did from his divine nature, spoke in correspondences, since in the physical world whatever comes from the divine nature clothes itself in things that correspond to divine realities and that therefore conceal in their embrace the divine realities that we call heavenly and spiritual."

    • @offTheLeftEye
      @offTheLeftEye  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Here's another, describing one of his experiences in the spiritual world:
      " I was in the spirit as before. I accompanied my guide, first to a hill in the southeast. When we had gained its gently sloping height, he showed me a wide stretch of land; far away we beheld a mountainlike eminence, between which and the hill where we stood was a valley and beyond it a plain from which the high ground rose gently.
      Descending the hill to cross the valley, we saw here and there on either side wood and stone carved in the likeness of men and of various beasts, birds and fishes. I asked the angel, "What are these? Are they idols?"
      "Not at all," he replied. "They are figures representing different moral virtues and spiritual truths. The peoples of this epoch had a knowledge of correspondences; and as every man, beast, bird or fish corresponds to some quality, therefore each piece of sculpture represents an aspect of a virtue or truth, and several together the virtue or truth itself as a whole. They are what in Egypt were called hieroglyphics." "

    • @offTheLeftEye
      @offTheLeftEye  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lastly! I now see that Swedenborg wrote something called "Egyptian Hieroglyphics Expounded through Correspondences" -- but apparently he never published it. In a letter he wrote to someone in 1771, he described this as a work soon to be printed. Too bad it didn't happen!

    It is Friday evening, I was driving through the town where I live to go to the supermarket after work (work had been kind of glum) to buy some food for dinner. There was a depressing feeling around (it’s not the nicest town, though not by any means the worst) people drinking for the sake of drinking, it was just one of those pretty depressing evenings. Then, as I drove out of the car park, a baby pigeon, old enough to be out by itself, but still being fed by its parent. There they were, the two of them. My heart melted and it was like they were the only real in that place. Every thing else an unreal backdrop, but those two, straight from heaven. Then I came home and watched this - thank you!❤🕊

    Just had two revelations within the first few mins! Bam.
    When I saw the grasses at 0.45, they looked (to me) like they are leaning or turning towards God and I realised that's what plants do. They grow and point towards their source of Life/Llght, the sun, the correspondence to God. Are we designed to turn our faces/grow towards God?
    Revelation 2. When I had an nde-like dream in 2006 I was shown how vitally important it was that I existed, because none of 'all this' could happen if I didn't. I've understood and appreciated that ever since, but just now I realised its much bigger than that. if I didn't exist then God couldn't either (because I'm a piece of him, and vice versa) The same principle applies to everyone and everything.

The number of times Swedenborg uses the word "ineffable" gives me the notion that my space-and-time-bound mind is never going to be able to imagine the reality of it all. So here's to patience and trust, as we wait for our turn to experience the wonder of heaven!

    A question came to my mind - how does the misuse of the resources on our planet - creating weapons to kill people, etc. subverting the free will given to us by God, to control and subjugate people - how is deliberate misuse of that comes from God, explained by the laws of correspondence? Please let me know if you need clarification and thank you for your consideration of my question.

    • @offTheLeftEye
      @offTheLeftEye  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question!

    So does all that correspondence mean that angels have bodies like ours with all its bits and functions?

    • @offTheLeftEye
      @offTheLeftEye  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Maureen! That's what Swedenborg witnessed, anyway, and tells a story of some young newcomers to heaven who were surprised to see they still had all their body parts. Of course they're not made of physical matter, but of spiritual substance, and we have the experience of being in a body. What do you think?

  • @kaledon6
    @kaledon6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a doubt about Swedenborg´s hell regarding people on Earth who love to watch the "violence" of a boxing fight between very agressive men, is it possible that "Hell" is just a place where peacefull people can find repulsive BUT OTHER PEOPLE MAY FIND ENJOYABLE FOR ALLOWING MEN'S AGRESSIVE TENDENCIES ???
    And is it possible that the eternity of hell is just based on different or opposite preferences of individuals on how to find "meaning" in existence ??
    If the answer to these questions are affirmative, my doubt is whether people can still "change" these preferences in the afterlife

    • @offTheLeftEye
      @offTheLeftEye  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, Kaledon, and one that even devoted Swedenborgians debate. Swedenborg indicates that when we enter the spiritual world after the death of our body, we go through a process of learning and reflecting and shedding and choosing, until we are "all one thing." That is, we completely embrace (and embody) love and kindness and goodness, or we completely embrace self-interest and ego and arrogance and cruelty. He makes it sound like we don't get to either heaven or hell until we are COMPLETELY sure who we are and what we love, for good. And yes, in that scenario, people who ENJOY violence and cruelty would be more comfortable in hell.
      But there are a few passages that indicate the eternal possibility of growth and change, and the truth that God loves everyone and is constantly magnetizing us all towards him -- as much as we will allow it.
      So some believe that a resident of hell will be there forever -- because they love it there -- and some believe that in a timeless situation, we might become more open to God's love and be inspired to change.
      In this Q&A session, Curtis discusses a similar question at about 35:44:

    In traditional Deism, God's existence is revealed through nature. There are different types of Deism since it is not a creed-fueled religion, but rather the result of the workings of the predictable rational mind. In my teenage years, I was a traditional deist, though I had never heard of Deism. I believed at that time that (any term for "God") created the material world, set it on its divinely-defined course, then left it alone to function as it was meant to.
    Then, Deepak Chopra said that nothing can exist without an observer. Swedenborg, being a scientist, identified the observer and power behind everything as God. Jurgen Ziewe identified Him as a Consciousness. The channeling tell us that, though the brain may die, the spirit lives on, the mind functions as it always did. The NDE's report that people continue as normal people after the death of the body with no interruption of thought and emotion.
    My adult mind now tells me that materiality has no innate consciousness to drive it to the fulfillment of its purpose. So, there HAS to be an Observer to watch it, a Mind to keep it going, a Thought to see it to its justification. And, that there HAS to be a primary and eternal Consciousness outside of materiality that MUST maintain all life on a continuous basis. Swedenborg explained that at a time when mankind was still steeped in slavish faith and obedience to arbitrary rule. I still believe all religion to be infantile, but of a positive service to many. I am still a deist, but a more mature one thanks to Swedenborg and all the developed minds that have explained the greatest mystery behind all that is.

      @@offTheLeftEye I was watching TH-cam videos on the formation of the universe, how Earth began, how life started and developed and how evolution brought all life to this point. When I saw how, for millions of years, Earth and the universe were devoid of intelligent life, how Earth was molten rock, solid rock, rock covered with spans of snow and ice, oceans, forests, savannas---in constant movement and violent change, mostly at a snail's pace. But, rock cannot see, cannot understand, cannot appreciate any of it. Of what value does anything have if there is no one to see it while it is happening; for that matter, to orchestrate the change and movement of any inanimate object? Thus, there must have always been an Observer.
