- In his first public performance at a railway station, Lang Lang drew a huge crowd to hear him perform The Flight of the Bumblebee, composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, followed by Liebesträume, by Franz Liszt, on a piano specially brought into London’s St Pancras station.
The performance, inspired by the incredible amateur pianists featured on the Channel 4 show, The Piano, came ahead of the series one finale.
Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, #ThePiano sets out to find the best amateur pianists from across the UK. Performing on public pianos across iconic venues such as London St Pancras, Glasgow, Leeds and Birmingham train stations, while sharing their beautiful stories and music with the British public.

I'd say to the boss, "I'm sorry I'm late for work but Lang Lang was playing Liszt in the train station, I had no choice." Serene.
And the boss would say: sure I’d do the same 😊! anything for great talents!
@@ilovechopin2846 "What is this life, if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare. "
It wasn’t Liszt -it was Rimsky-Korsakoff
Ok, the 2nd one was ….
@@johnwade7430 The first piece was Rimsky-Korsakov, the second was Liszt.
It was incredibly generous of him to play in the mall, where people who might not be able to afford a ticket to his concerts could enjoy his skills.
If you’re shopping at a mall in 2023, money would clearly not be an issue
It’s a train station
followed his career since an early TV doc when he was very young and supported by his mum and dad. He has grown into one of the world’s greatest pianists, a consummate musician and a wonderful human being
Yes, the same here; it may have been the same documentary I remember watching 🙂 He is so talented, and interesting to listen to when he is being interviewed or is mentoring....he just seems a really nice person.
Since the first time I heard his piano i. Became her fan. I m still
He had clean notes and still do it. ❤
His performance teaches me how soft tunes can deliver the greatest impact.
I often hear talented trained musicians passing time amusing passengers at this busy station. Then a world renowned classical pianist drops by… it’s like night and day. After that performance, passengers ears won’t be the same for a while. It will be some time before they can appreciate the talent of the mortals again.
I can almost hear the soul of every note liberated, floating away in the station.
Yes I do feel that
Este cel. mai bun!❤️🌹🥀💐
Why am I having tears in my eyes the moment he plays the Liszt piece 😢
So much feeling in his playing . The music almost stops with his romantic emphasis .
Great pianist and very generous to play at the train station to let people enjoy his great performance!
I bet he hasn’t played on an upright for a long time and still he got so much out of it. Just the most generous personable human being, love educating kids and a great dad now. Met him years ago and got his autograph 😊
He always has a upright piano in his hotel room
This upright is good as a grand. See how tall it is!
Lang Lang makes any upright piano sound like a grand piano! 😁👍
Really! 😍
This guy has magic fingers. Simply mesmerizing performance even at a train station.
Lang Lang is one of top pianoists in the world in my opinion in the top 5!! He's a Great guy! 😊
""PIANOIST"????? Really?
Lmao bro said pianoist
okay pianoists
@@JSBach-pd4yg you are not real
hes good but definitely not top 5
Lang Lang's Liszt is passionate romantic with of course impeccable technique. Just the right musical magic for this fortunate crowd and an upright in poor acoustics. Amazing.
That's the future: amazing artists performing for the people, for free, for the heart.
Just casually playing one of the most difficult pieces of music ever to embrace an instrument in front of a public audience effortlessly. Lang Lang is one of the GOATs
The Leibesträume is sublime. To me, it is the most romantic, passionate piece of music ever written.
LIEbestraum
My hands are too small to play it 😢I can only reach 1 octave +1 and I don't want to rearrange and butcher it. This is my dream song that I wish i could play but never will lol
Lang Lang is such an amazing pianist. He's a role model for all the young pianists like me.
@Lewis Levits thank you, I will definitely listen to Vladimir because I don't know him yet.
As good as those two are, neither can hold a candle to Yunchan Lim. Listen to Lim- he is already considered by many to be the greatest pianist of the 21st century.
@lewislevits1193never heard of VA. But what is your point of coming here making such comment? if he’s really that good of musician, he will be recognized by many……. Like Lang Lang. have some respect and manner.
You can see how every note moves him. And he is such a humble man. Truly one of the greats. Thank you Lang Lang. 🙏
@@lewislevits1193literally 0 people asked
@@lewislevits1193 Yes, you ask - NO is my answer 👎! IDK WHAT you’re talking about - or IF YOU actually play the 🎹 yourself? Lang Lang studied at Curtis, which is even considered to be above the Juilliard School of Music. Also, he was influenced by many others like Gould, Barenboim, Goldberg (for his Bach interpretations), etc. *** I was a classical pianist for more than 1/2 century myself and played THIS piece too in my younger years - although nowhere nearly as well as he does! Composers WRITE the music notes on paper 📝 , but it’s the musicians who actually PLAYS them in their OWN unique style - and imo that’s how it should be, and how I was taught!
He’s just so awesome! Was a pleasure to meet and shake hands with one of the greats!! 🙌❤️🎹
So lucky of you 🎉 I’m so jealous!!!
Ooh, I'm so jealous... what a delightful treat for you!
I'm also a fan of this amazing musician, also a nice human being...
The people who's here today such blessings to see Lang Lang in person to enjoy the beautiful sound of piano that he played wish I'm here 💖
So happy for all the people who cannot afford to buy a ticket at the opera. More performers should bring music closer to the streets.
Absolutely beautiful playing - gone all goosebumpy listening to it as it's wonderful! What a talented pianist Lang Lang is and what a treat to those listening! I wonder if there were people who stayed who were late for work or an appointment?
In another video, this young man did an absolutely wonderful 'Fur Elise'!
I was actually there to listen to this. Couldn't believe it. I was so thrilled, until I missed my train. Had to wait an hour for the next one. Was late for a very important job interview and didn't get the job.
destiny😊
@@patricksmith1319 Very true. And since then I have found employment elsewhere. Nearer to home as well and 50p extra per hour. So a big thank you to Lang Lang for changing the course of my life, for the better.
@@marlowemarlowe4893 Destiny!
Well done! Getting your priorities right.
@@marlowemarlowe4893 Narrator: Marlowe saved every one of their extra 50 pences and spent them on piano lessons. They then went on to become a concert pianist.
He always plays with such grace and class. He turns all these masterpieces into a heavenly treat. It's not only moving and impactful. It's a tribute to legendary classical composers, and he'd like the world to hear what 'music souls' are all about.
Lang Lang, a humble man of the the people with a God-given talent which he enthusiastically shares with the world.
God given talent without countless hours of right practice would have equaled to almost zero.
Gift from the Gods! Great pianist as well as human being! Did so much for Classical music and bringing children into music!
He makes The Flight of the Bumblebee look so easy!
He feels every note.
Long Live Lang Lang. He is gifted
What my parents hoped for when they paid for my piano lessons.
😅 👍
As a parent, I laughed at this comment.
My teen, although has passed her G8 piano, rarely plays unless I ask her to!!!!!
@@isabellewhite3505 For how long did your daughter study piano to achieve G8?
@@kellydreamy5036 . The covid period didn't help, and she passed her G8 after her "3rd" attempt.
She began playing the piano at age 5 and reached G7 at 14. She eventually passed G8 at age 16 & flatly refused to take her diploma with abrsm.
When she goes to uni this yr, I'm hoping she'll play in a quartet or trio in her spare time. But with her A levels looming, playing the piano now is not her priority.
How long did you play the piano before passing your highest grade?
@@isabellewhite3505 I see! Wish your daughter all the best! Mine is quite similar. Started at 5 and passed G8 at 14😊
Wow Lang Lang that was so beautiful! You play with such grace. If I were there I would have surely missed my train to hear you play
Saw his wife Gina Alice in the crowd filming him just like a fan! How sweet!
Quel plaisir de voir ce grand pianiste si humble et tellement sympathique,il est ma préférence à moi,❤❤❤❤
He played liebestraum perfect for in a public station on this Boston piano!! Especially the melodie line to give it a bit more power
Ta. Muzyka poważna płynie jak woda Cudownie grane .Ukłony i Pozdrawienia Posyłamy Państwu Polska 🤷🌹🥀🙋❤️🌹
Amazing rendition of one of the most incredible pianist of the history.
Terrible take what are yall talking about? He literally just rushed it and messed up so many times lol
@@jponz85 my man watched the first 10 sec of the video and already decided to be a jackass lmfao... he's clearly warming up his fingers with Bumbelbee not actually performing it.
@@jponz85 And you can't even play flight of the bumblebee at original tempo lmao
Agree
SO jealous of anyone who was there but grateful the video was uploaded here.
Great 👍 but not my 4.5 top .😊
The wild bees danced and played a lively tune, their buzzing melody filled the air. Their movements were swift and their speed was unmatched. They moved with agility, darting here and there, creating a mesmerizing spectacle of rapid motion. The sound of their wings fluttering echoed harmoniously, as if they were playing a fast-paced symphony. These agile creatures painted a picture of grace and energy, showcasing the beauty of nature's incredible creations.
Thank goodness everyone recorded it on their phone so that we have 100 copies of exactly the same thing to watch. At least all of them not enjoying his sublime playing as much as they should have was well worth it.
Come on anyone would do the same. Who’s going to believe you that Lang Lang played at the train station without a video?
How I wish I were among the crowds watching his magic fingers dancing on the piano keyboard! What an exhilarating joy it would be!
3:45 was so touching ❤️. Liebestraum.
Absolutely fantastic!
hey cole lam
This video is 100 times better than anything anyone is capturing on their phones and still no one could just enjoy the music and download the video later? 😔
No, I think it’s mainly so they can have a keepsake and of course use it for bragging rights
if i saw lang lang playing i will record the hell out of it😂
Throws down my favorites. Unreal. Wish I was there.
Beautiful and what a humble and wonderful human being. A life well spent.
I passed Grade 8 at 12 , then LTCL when I was 16, all of a sudden, my father walked away from the family and my mom turned all her anger to me, I stopped my music career since then! 😢
So envy…. A human life well spend….❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
As a classical pianist and piano teacher, I say to you, please start playing again! Don't let what happened in your past define you. Have a blessed day!!!

A most wonderful series………what a treat!
He's a GENIUS!!! I love him 🎹🎶❤️
I had the pleasure to see Lang Lang live a couple of weeks ago and it was magical. Pair him with MIKA and it’s just pure wonder!
what a great artist and pianist
Wonderful .what a thrill for those lucky enough to be in the station.
Потрясающе! Браво!
Não me canso nunca de ouvir LANG LANG , é maravilhoso!🇧🇷
What's a Feeling !!!
Thank you so much Lang Lang.
Great performance. Loved it.
Playing this piece makes me feel so powerful - that being said, i play it like im trying to survive computer game in hard mode, with uneven tempo and not as clear of course
Un pianista GENIAL, Lo sigo de hace años Argentina
他應該是全球第一位網絡在線直播帶貨的鋼琴家🎉
I grew up idolising him. I kept telling myself that is why I practise the piano.
Excellent performance. So happy to listen to it.❤🎉😊👏👏👏
These guys got a real treat. His concerts ranges from 100 USD to 1000s USD.
Sound just flows through him ,A force of nature, just like Jimmy hendrix,no one can make sense of it.
This is what one gets from dedicating a lifetime to making music. Your presence becomes a magnet. I enjoyed Liszt's "Love's Dream" as I did his first piece. Not sure if that's "Flight of the Bumblebee"❤❤👏👏👏👏
It was flight of the bumblebee
I'm so sorry for your loss
I wonder what it’s like to know you have the power to create an unforgettable moment for a random group of people any time you touch a piano.
Lang Lang tickling the piano left n right so awesomely magnificent !!!!!!!!!!! 😀🤩👑🎹🎵🎼🎶
Absolutely sublime second piece! 👏👏👏👏🌟🎶🌟🎶
Браво!!!!💐Привет из Москвы!
He has a generous heart. Sharing his music to all, rich & poor.
I wish I had been there.
He’d be so impressed with my rendition of Three Blind Mice in C Major.
Pięknie zagrane. Od razu wiadomo że wiosna... Owady się budzą (trzmiele) 👍👍🇵🇱💕
You can hear how the poor Boston piano just can't cope with his astounding technique. WHY, of all the pianos in pianodom, did they go for a poor man's Steinway?
Yeah, I heard it too.
Yes, a real beast of a piano, he should’ve brought an axe with him.
Lang Lang is a super star within the classical music circuit and having him play at a train station concourse is incredible. 😊
Och I was in London but pitty not there in this time in St.Pancras station.Mr.Lang is not only pianist but nice deep person devoted to play for people giving pleasure beauty of music That's it!Thanks for this gift to God.
Wonderful!!! Thank you so much Lang Lang.
I just love how the high gloss of the piano reflects the word CHANEL thus make this whole moment high-end.🤣😂
Com uma apresentação desta, não têm quem não fique estatico. Parabéns e linda apresentação.
LngLang is kind hearted, noble, humble, BUT MOST OF ALL, HE IS A SUPERB MUSICIAN.

What a precious gift Lang Lang has been given .when i listen to him playing i am close to heaven..
Buzzing performance.
Thankyou so much for posting this so we could all share in these exceptional moments!
With his magical fingers he can be a heart surgeon if he wanted to.
How can anyone even hold up a camera during this? I woulda dropped it seeing how amazing this is to even be in the presence of greatness...
His technicality is off the charts
Oh, my gosh!!!!! I hope everyone on spot knowing how lucky they are as enjoying your music in the train station! Please let me know your assistant contact so that I can get the first hand info where I should spot you!!! LOVE your music and passion!!!
😀 le top, quelle sensibilité 🙂
Ouch, so uneven. I thought I was the only one who couldn’t make an upright respond quick enough. These pianos actually make my hands ache the next day; because the action is so different from a grand. I give him credit for being a good sport. Liebestraum was a better choice. The piano isn’t responsive enough to play Flight of the Bumblebee up to the right tempo. Half of the keys didn’t come back up in time to play them again. 😂😂
Rubinstein used to call these “half instruments.!”
Ya I was about to say the same thing, at first I thought it was his technique but that can't be cuz he's so experienced. I've played on worse and it really damages the performance. I doubt many people noticed unless they are pianists too tho.
Oh, I'm not a pianist, but I did notice... it was really bad to listen to...
I guessed he first played it just to attract audience..
Deslumbrante!!!
Momento de Céu na Terra!
We need a 2-set violin reaction to this.
u need too much
You know the grand arm flick at the end of the first song? I can also do that after practicing that song for 5 years.
😊😂 I catch your joke....after 5 years
Wonderful, just wonderful :)
I fell asleep hearing this last night, magical.
You can truly hear the bumble-bee when LL plays it
you pass by the train station and accidentally came across a world class performance

I find it strange that most people are watching their phones instead of fully appreciating the performance, which they may never experience again.
