After the old front strut is removed, dont let the spindle / rotor assembly tilt or fall outward away from the car at the top. This can pull the drive axle CV joint out of the transmission coupling , causing serious work for the beginner to re-install
Torque specs: Two large bolts strut at steering knuckle: 113 ft. lbs. The three nuts for top of strut assembly at body: 29 ft lbs. Stabilizer link nut: 55 ft lbs. If you have ABS, the speed sensor bolt: 21 ft. lbs.
Hey thanks for the compliment Brad. I pin a link to the top comments and in the description with all the products. It'll say "Shop This Video". Here's the direct link to the store: www.nthefastlane.com/strut-assembly-corolla-type-s-store
Wish I would have watched this before attempting to install my new struts. Got to the sway bar part and thought I substitute that 16 backer wrench with channel locks. Galled it all up. Had to order a new one. I’ll be sawzall’ing it off when the new one arrives.
Thanks for the video. I have suspension noise when stop and turning. I changed the worn out swig link and outer tie rod but noise still there. I checked the strut and it has broken boot and I think strut may be the cause. Thanks for sharing the video.
Thank you for this I informative video..today I learned that my 2006 Corolla needed struts after I had to replace all my tires that were terribly worn! The mechanic gave me the bad news that I need to replace my struts and I had no idea what that was! Now I know:)
Great video! Quick, precise and straight to the point. Also, thanks for putting links to the products you used, I'm going to purchase the impact drill!!
Goo video. My problem. 2003 Corolla Flat spots on tire. Usually it is the balance. Tried bounce test in front but front doesn't move at all. Can't move it down!!! 150 miles. Any suggestions?
Thank you This video helped me fix my wife's 2008 Corolla after she went on the sidewalk at 30mph. I though it was going to be worst but this left the car better than before.
Im going 2 be doing rhis soon to my car. I appreciate the video u made here. I do have 1 question though. U made this seem pretty easy, & i believe it is, but how long will it probably take me to do this assuming that im averagely mechanically inclined?
Kuma San yes. Look at car’s manual for torque specs. I think is 65 lbs/sq bottom bolt and 45 for the top and 25 for the strut mount on top. Also. Tires torque is 81 lbs
I found that if the car drives straight I would not bother with an alignment especially if the tires are worn and you are planning on buying new tires then you can have the alignment done.
Yes it's recommended. Anytime you do something with the suspension you'll want to get an alignment. The only thing you wouldn't need to get an alignment on is when you replace the sway bar end links, you don't need to get an alignment with that repair.
There may not be any adjustments, but where the strut meets the knuckle, before you tighten it down, there's quite a bit of play. That is where an alignment shop would loosen the two knuckle bolts, then proceed to get the tire in position, and torque down the bolts. They even offer camber bolts that has a little lift on the side of the bolt so when you turn it, it moves the knuckle in and out a little bit fixing the camber.
Was this car from down south or something? There's not even any rust on those struts, they look almost new. Here in the north east they would be nothing but rust.

Wouldn’t the lower control arm prevent this? Serious question. Never done this before

Very well explained!
Thanks for the help! 👍🏼👍🏼
Now that you have several years on the new strut assemblies, how do you like the Unity brand struts? Still going strong?
Hi Brian.
There hasn't been any issues with them. The customer puts roughly 25,000 miles a year on the vehicle.
Almost paid $1464 but now my inner Hispanic is kicking in lol
You got this! 👊
Very good video! Easy and right to the point! Thanks i will save some $

Finally a good video. Thanks, do you have the rear side of the vehicle video?
Not as of yet but it should be the same repair as this: th-cam.com/video/L44l7PTbhIg/w-d-xo.html
Is doing the sway bar link recommend to be done at the same time?
Since you're already there you might as well replace them. Here is the how to video for that repair: th-cam.com/video/tEcM0_ro360/w-d-xo.html
Thank you
This video helped me fix my wife's 2008 Corolla after she went on the sidewalk at 30mph. I though it was going to be worst but this left the car better than before.
LOL. Aint that the truth!
Im going 2 be doing rhis soon to my car. I appreciate the video u made here. I do have 1 question though. U made this seem pretty easy, & i believe it is, but how long will it probably take me to do this assuming that im averagely mechanically inclined?
A year.
What was the strut brand that u used on the video?
Should the bolts get torqued? I did not hear you say if they should be and what to?
Kuma San yes. Look at car’s manual for torque specs. I think is 65 lbs/sq bottom bolt and 45 for the top and 25 for the strut mount on top. Also. Tires torque is 81 lbs
How much do you torque the 2 19mm nut?
Straight forward instruction video.
Thanks
You call always purchase a chilton or haynes repair book like for 20$ and you'll find a wide range of torque specs, i really recommend getting one.
Thank you so much for such a great video. Just one question, If you are replacing the entire strut, you do not need a spring compressor, correct ?
ROB NAVAEI Correct, no need. Just don't remove the center nut on top of the strut.
Is an alignment needed after changing out all four struts?
Great video. Is alignment needed after this replacement?
johnim1 I was wondering the same
Yes, anytime you're replacing a strut you will need one.You can get away without having one with the Sway Bar Linkage repair though.
I found that if the car drives straight I would not bother with an alignment especially if the tires are worn and you are planning on buying new tires then you can have the alignment done.
Like it, it delivers.
Do we need To get the car align after that ?
Yes it's recommended. Anytime you do something with the suspension you'll want to get an alignment. The only thing you wouldn't need to get an alignment on is when you replace the sway bar end links, you don't need to get an alignment with that repair.
@@Nthefastlane Thank you
Do you need an alignment after this ? I have a 2003 Corolla.
Yes you do Blake.
Why ? I don't see any camber adjustment on the strut.
There may not be any adjustments, but where the strut meets the knuckle, before you tighten it down, there's quite a bit of play. That is where an alignment shop would loosen the two knuckle bolts, then proceed to get the tire in position, and torque down the bolts. They even offer camber bolts that has a little lift on the side of the bolt so when you turn it, it moves the knuckle in and out a little bit fixing the camber.
is it the same process for the european version of this car?
Great video thank you
That sway bar link @3min in looks very different from mine... anyone else having any trouble there? Ended up using a vice grip on the back.
What was the part number again?
Ik this is old but is a normal 03 to 08 corolla struts the same as the 03 to 08 Corolla s
Don’t forget the torque wrench!
Please do the rear assembly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was this car from down south or something? There's not even any rust on those struts, they look almost new. Here in the north east they would be nothing but rust.
Yes :)
Mine has loads of rust everywhere
WTF was that thing you used to take out top bolts.
That's not an accurate way to check modern shocks/struts at all. Back in the day yes, now with macpherson style units no.
instead of criticizing, you should add value...
Forgot the back
