Ah man, I remember this game so well. I was just about to turn 10, and I got to go with my family to this game. We sat in a UGA section, right on the border of a Tennessee section in the upper deck. My dad wisely took the border spot. When UT scored the go-ahead TD on the screen pass to Stevens, some guy next to my dad was going insane. He yelled in my dad's ear about "This is OUR house! You don't come here and f*ckin push us around!" After Verron scored, dad turned to find this guy gone.
Listening to the commentators just fawn over the "magical sense" of neyland, and knowing that it is about to be absolutely shattered is maybe my favorite part of this whole video.
Fulmer had to be regretting the choice to squib the kickoff for Georgia's last possession. Gave the Dogs the ball at the 40-45 when kicking it out of bounds would have even benefited the Vols more. I hate the squib kick. Kick it deep, light a fire under your special teams ass, and trust that they'll make a tackle. What a game, I'll never forget watching this game with my dad who's a die hard UGA fan. He grabbed his hat and slung it like a 95mph fast ball across the living room after UT took the go-ahead score...that hat now lives in infamy.
@@zackwoods4224 Nope he never had control. The ball landed and was immediately knocked out of his hand. Honestly, though, doesn't really matter Tennessee still lost the game.
Ben Shainker mark richt's signature win in his 1st season. UGA fans should be grateful to have the same HC for a decade and a half. It's rare to see that but Les Miles, Steve Spurrier, Mike Gundy & Nick Saban are creeping in that category as well
@@edwardrichardson9543 3 have won national championships Steve Spurrier fun n gun offense when coached his alma mater at Florida in the 90s rewrote the SEC record books plus defensive coordinators had sleepless nights trying to slow down that offense
I have only been to Neyland Stadium one time! I have only been to one UGA football game with my dad! They both occurred on that fall day in 2001! A day and a game I will always remember! To this day one of the loudest environments I have ever been in. The damn stadium was swaying back and forth with Rocky Top! However No one looks good in Orange!! Go Dawgs!
Not many coaches would be forced out of a top-tier program after going 40-19 in five years. But Jim Donnan was. And you could argue his successor hasn't really done that much better.
Jim Donnan went 40-19 divide both those numbers by 5 that's averaging right around 8-4 every year top level programs expect to compete for conference and national championships, when richt was our coach he averaged around 10 wins a season (2 SEC championships to his name and 4 appearances, something donnan doesn't know anything about) but in his last 10 years we almost always fell apart against good teams or in "trap" games judging by the start too Kirby's second season 5-0 currently (10-5-17) and the way we have dominated opponents it looks like UGA has made the right decision in both instances.
Lol...Kelly Washington didn't score the TD in the first Quarter...he never had control and didn't stay in bounds. Just another example of a game where Instant Replay would come in handy...
Georgia haven't won in Knoxville since Jennifer "Jenny" Foxworth from Disney Oliver and Company was Six Months old in 1980, but NOW 21 Years later in 2001 21 years old a College Student at NYU.
I know SEC officiating is bad now but geez so many blown, missed calls in this game and the CBS guys are not even calling it out. It's like someone told the refs that no one would question there call so be as bad as you want..
who cares? if you want to go that route, georgia is the oldest state-charted institution in the nation. we've had those far more attractive colors much longer.
We live in the present. Can you help carrying these two BCS trophies? I don't want to drop them. A parent of one of the players already did. Oops. I guess that's what happens when you get more than one.
But this was Richt’s first signature win as coach. Georgia had gone through a three year stretch where they were losing with regularity to their top rivals Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, and Tech. This was also just a few weeks after 9/11 too.
When Tennessee was relevant and competing for SEC and/or National Championships... They're just putrid/awful/bad/terrible/shitty... Hopefully, Butch Jones can turn it around and break Tennessee out of Phillip Fulmer's shadow
How old the university is, itself, is irrelevant to the topic of colors for football uniforms... IF you want to talk about that, then actually UT has had OUR colors longer, seeing as our football program was started before UGA's, but I digress. Georgia is overrated, as usual, and they'll be lucky to come out of Columbia with a W this Saturday, IMO.

"Oh, how Georgia would love to silence this Tennessee crowd..."
And boy did we shut them up. Go Dawgs!!!!
You can thank John Chavis

Love how they're still showing UT's touchdown during Georgia's final drive, like they haven't realized UGA is already at mid-field.
Yeah but Tennessee got there revenge in 2016
It was nice of the officials to actually make Tennessee catch the ball on the 2nd TD
Dumbass comment he caught it clearly on the first
@@zackwoods4224 It was not a dumbass comment. Go back and watch the replay 14:04. Washington dropped the ball..

The ol' "Hobnail boot" game. RIP Larry Munson.
Was this the infamous "Hobnail Game"?
Yes

dang i miss greene
That first Tenn TD was a drop in today’s game. He didn’t even take a step and the ball was out.
Same great intro.

Munson's call has to be edited in there somewhere. It's just necessary.

Randall Dubin Jim Donnan hasn't coached since. Won't ever again.

Richt was a much better coach than Jim Donnan...🤦🏻♂️🙄
39:35 It’s Damien Gary😂

LOL, "Look at him get his feet down." No one said anything about the ball rolling on the ground.
It was a clear catch
randy sanders is what did tennessee in really, long term. he had no imagination and it's just an iso handoff every single play

That first Touchdown, would not be a touchdown in today's game.
Yes it would he caught it
Yes sir! What was College Football thinking waiting so long for reviews...smh
UGA started its final drive on their 41. I've always hated the squib kick to run off time. Doesn't seem like it's worth it to me.
We've used the same colors for 120 years and not planning on changing anytime soon, so DWI.

Georgia's colors are so unique, right? Red?
Only another 40 schools use that exact same color (or just a few variations of it).
1980.
1998.
Lol Tennessee fans 🤣...1998 hillbillies...that's one thing Tennessee doesn't have to worry about...no one else would wear that ugly orange

haha you could tell who the color guy was wanting to win.
Fuck this game. lol
At least we finally managed to pwn David Greene before he graduated in '04!
And later that night we invaded Afghanistan. That's how I always remember the date of when it happened.

Tennessee first touchdown wasn't even touch down .. not even close for a completed pass
It was a clear catch stop crying
I wonder how uncle Lou reacted to this game
He wasn't a fan back then.
Georgia is overrated, but Tennessee is just flat out bad. Disco Derek has no SEC victories this year.

This loss turned out to mean absolutely nothing for Tennessee. They still had a shot and blew it against LSU..

And then rocky top every time they gain one yard

Lol in the present is correct, cuz they were a joke prior to saban
Why? Cuz you couldn't beat anyone?
Couldn't beat bama? Where was alabama from 1995 to 2007? Non-existent!
But tennessee has been way worse sense 2007 nick saban 14-1 against tennessee thats pretty bad.
I will not wear that gaudy orange.
