Owned this kit for over a year now. Trust me, you can make amazing sounds when you know how to work with layering, decay, tuning, and etc. My custom kit sounds are amazing.
I treated my family and purchased a set of yamaha 522k in the summer of 2014. I set out to by a Roland kit, but after listening to the Yamaha kit, I like the sampled acoustic drum sounds better. The 522 is a step down, but really nice. The module I believe is the same as the 562. So far no issues. I'm actually a guitar player that hacks at the drums out of necessity. The rubber pads are very sturdy, and I store the the whole thing in a rubbermaid tote when I'm not using them. So far so good.
I use this module and silicone pads. I love them. The pads are phenomenal -press rolls sound and feel like a real drum. Try them in a store and see for yourself. These drums have not received the attention they deserve because so many drummers are ‘time players‘, data input artists etc. and less expensive pads will suffice, but if you work on your technique, you will not be disappointed with these pads. Mesh pads are louder and don't come close in feel and responses.
If anyone is not satisfied with the tuning of for example the Yamaha Maple kit, it's not hard to change the tuning. I have compared this to the Roland TD 25 (Yamaha is higher pitched) and then tuned it down to sound similar. I personally liked the Yamaha maple kit once tuned down better than the Roland since it is samples of the Yamaha Maple Custom kit. You don't get the same overtones on snare for example but it can be tuned lower to sound very similar to Roland TD-11 OR 25. This is my opinion but once you experiment with this kit, I find I like it more. Roland has its perks but Yamaha is better than videos show.
Material used on pads are far superior and more natural than Roland's mesh. Trust me, you want this Yamaha and, if possible, connected to EzDrummer or Addictive Drums. Great great stuff. Have it for more than 2 years and I love it.
This set sounds pretty good but I have a Roland TD-30 k VDrum kit and nothing is like a Roland period. The expressiveness and dynamics is out of this world!
+dennis moser - Cost of that TD-30K kit is roughly $7500.00 ... Cost of this kit is about $1700.00. I cant imagine why you would notice any difference in sound between the two - can you?
Even though people aren't getting answers, i will still ask. When it comes to adding your own sounds, is the software flexible enough to link multiple different samples to different velocities within the same trigger? Or is it just add a hard snare stroke that will still be a hard stroke no matter if you hit it hard or soft all it will do is play a low volume hard stroke? Because for an instrument to sound natural you need to be able to add as many sounds to a single trigger pad linked to different velocity ranges. And that's the problem with edrums. Example: Natural response Hit super soft = super soft sample at not too low volume Hit soft = different soft sample at a distinguishable volume Hit normal = different normal sample at good volume Hit a little hard = different hard sample at normal volume Hit harder = different harder sample at not higher volume The better the resolution the more natural, but less than 5, it's a cheap resolution charged as an expensive sound, and that's my problem with e drumkits. They offer the same sample, sometimes a mixed shift between two miserable samples like the dtx500. It's 2016 people!
Alvaro Hernandez the only kit that will allow multiple samples for example 128 sample of a snare is the 2box. You can add 128 samples from soft to loud. Yamaha allows sampling but has not indicated if the same can be done. As far as I know it is just basic samples and loops you can add. Unless they upgraded the firmware, the module or there is something I don't know you can't do what you are asking unless it is a 2box module. I hope that helps.
Did he? Do you have that kit? What kit would you say is overall better? The Roland TD-25K or the Yamaha DTX562K.I am looking to get one for recording. I have a miked acoustic kit but the E- Drums would be good for some bands I record. Oh nice cat :)
I was just wondering what Steven has that kit hooked into in order to get such a deep clean sound....I'm E-Drum shopping, but I want to be able to do live performances in addtion to all the studio things I have in mind. I'm also looking at the Stagepas 600i, coupled with a subwoofer for a one man show.
Hey, Cody. Thanks so much for your interest. Yes, you'd use the same headphones. You would plug your phone or laptop in to the 1/8" Aux input. The music will play through the same headphones while playing the drums. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
+Lorenzo Sanchez yeah I had the same question, you've gotta do some digging but they're out there. The only problem I'm having is finding extra cables to use to connect the cymbal to the module once you get the cymbal. www.musiciansfriend.com/electronic-cymbals/yamaha-pcy135-3-zone-electronic-cymbal?cntry=us&source=3WWRWXGP&gclid=CjwKEAjw3qu5BRC-0uCw8O6Y5zcSJAA_WtdLgL_uTl8qQgwD5iMWo-LkYvd6_DSx8bfaXXlTG_EXTBoCIoXw_wcB&kwid=productads-adid^92666429427-device^c-plaid^157466251722-sku^H69193000000000@ADL4MF-adType^PLA
SweetwaterSound Thanks, I thought they were mesh, but then I searched more and read they are silicone...so guessing it's really difficult to get them damaged or broken, right?
+Grayson Gerni - actually this Yamaha kit sounds better than the TD-1K...at least in my honest opinion and Ive played both...I passed on the Roland and bought the Yamaha .
Maybe too late but i tried both kits at the store and I decide by the feeling for the Yamaha TDX 522k. I will recommend you try them before you buy any. If you are searching for a normal e-drum kit to practice and some recording both are great options. This will never replace an Acostic drum kit. This is my personal opinion hope it helps.
Why do the snare drums and crash cymbals always sound so fake on these kits ? It’s unbelievable that you have to spend $4000 or more for a decent sounding kit when electronics are so cheap these days.

I`ve just bougth it and love it! Would you mind to share some of custom settings?
Patrick E. Cool.
What do you play it thru?

Man, I like your playing style! Nice drum set also!
Sound layering and sample import. Done deal!
This set sounds pretty good but I have a Roland TD-30 k VDrum kit and nothing is like a Roland period. The expressiveness and dynamics is out of this world!

cool drumkit wow
OMG! It is so jazzy and "natural"
Steve is the man!!
Amazing sound!

A good drummer. I wonder what band he plays in, I'd like to watch and learn.
Against current competition this would probably be a good competitor for the Roland TD07KVX
Which is a better option? This model or Roland TD 17 KVX ??
I find it hard to believe the guy demo'ing the kit cause he used to work for Roland
Did he? Do you have that kit? What kit would you say is overall better? The Roland TD-25K or the Yamaha DTX562K.I am looking to get one for recording. I have a miked acoustic kit but the E- Drums would be good for some bands I record. Oh nice cat :)
Yes he did, look up roland TD30,Yes I have the TD30 kit,Cant say anything about the Yamaha since I do not own it.And Smokey says thanks...... :p
"he used to work for Roland"?!...He works for Sweetwater.
Anyway he plays better than Tom. Lol
This guy is a beast
Are the rims programmable with different sounds for all the snares and toms ?
Hey... Steven Fisher ... wasn't he with Roland before?
Hi Sir How to handle the stick from the left hand i want to learn that thanks
Has the 502 app stopped working with iPhone 7? Can’t get it to work at all.
I was just wondering what Steven has that kit hooked into in order to get such a deep clean sound....I'm E-Drum shopping, but I want to be able to do live performances in addtion to all the studio things I have in mind. i have a dtx 522k and was just wondering if u can change and upgrade the hi hat cymbal
nope. this is last version.
Absolutely yes to the rh135
The same Steve fisher that recommends and demonstrates Roland? Which is better this kit or the Roland 11kv?
i wish i had the money...
Its not that good but its ok lol I got mine used like new for 350 from this rich dude
I wonder how much it cost Yamaha to poach Steve from Roland.😝
I would doubt they had to poach this guy. He's not very convincing, nor is his playing doing anything to make it seem all that impressive.
can you set the second rack tom to trigger a cymbal instead of a tom?
Is the KP65 bass drum capable of high speed double bass? I heard there can be some latency issues at very high bpm.
+frankm5150 - Ive done 300 bpm for a couple of minutes or so and Ive never noticed any latency whatsoever...but longer than that I can attest to.
frankm5150 I use this bass drum pad on it’s own as a practice pad,it is awesome, pounded on the thing and has not broke over 6 years of use.
Trombon players but Yamaha stil sounds good !!!
So how do you listen to your drums while listening along to a song, say on your phone or laptop, through the same headphones?
Hey, Cody. Thanks so much for your interest. Yes, you'd use the same headphones. You would plug your phone or laptop in to the 1/8" Aux input. The music will play through the same headphones while playing the drums. I hope this helps.

What's the toll free number for sweetwater
Can you buy more cymbals to add separately with this kit?
+Lorenzo Sanchez yeah I had the same question, you've gotta do some digging but they're out there. The only problem I'm having is finding extra cables to use to connect the cymbal to the module once you get the cymbal.

is this better than the Alesis strike kit in terms of sound and triggering?
I don't know about triggering, but Strike definitely has better sounds
is it possible to ship overseas? Colombia?
Can heads be replaced or changed?
Hi Martin Lentini. The pads can't be changed. If something were to get damaged, then you'd need to purchase a replacement pad unit.
SweetwaterSound Thanks, I thought they were mesh, but then I searched more and read they are silicone...so guessing it's really difficult to get them damaged or broken, right?
Yamaha rules
can other cymbals to be added to this kit ??
Yes indeed. It plugs into the back of the base drum pad. However, it only has one zone, not three like the others.
Which kick pedal are you using?
What is the diffenrence between the Yamaha dtx 532k and dtx 562k? - Only the toms? :)
And the sounds
Light Yagami not true! Both have the same sound module (= same sounds).
So there is no reason to buy 562k and give more money
I'm going to modify my old Tama set to be an hybrid Yamaha kit.
Can it also be played with brushes?
While there is a "brushes" preset. You'll get the best response when using sticks on this kit, Martin Lentini.
SweetwaterSound Thanks. I guess it's difficult to get the sweeping sounds.
How loud is the kit without a drum monitor? Like I wanna play it out loud. Will the sound still be good?
+Samuel Kajah you need amplification as these kits don't have speakers included
+john robinson and the costs keep adding :'(
Samuel Kajah that's life i'm afraid...i've got mine connected to my old technics hifi
Can i add one more cymbal ?
Yes . . . the cymbal plugs into the back of the kick pad. Note, that it only has one zone so you don't need to buy a three zone cymbal.
I didn’t know Danny McBride played drums
Is it possible to setup this kit for a left hander? i.e. in mirror image?
Yes! Nothing special required - just reverse the setup!
Thanks very much... Trying decide between the Yamaha DTX562K and the Roland TD11KV
Awesome, Jerry Groome! Give us a call at (800) 222-4700 if you have any questions!
Jerry Groome Hi Jerry, any conclusions? In similar position but thought Roland were the bees knees! : )
CSMedia Hello... I'm going for the Yamaha myself, but I think I'd be happy with either :-D
how did you record the sound? thank you.
Give us a call Frenky Kristiano and we'll be able to answer all your questions.
still isn't a TD-1K
+Grayson Gerni - actually this Yamaha kit sounds better than the TD-1K...at least in my honest opinion and Ive played both...I passed on the Roland and bought the Yamaha .
Warren Wright probably true, I'm less happy with my roland now
Give me a vintage 1960s Camco kit any day of the week...
This kit or roland td 11?
Maybe too late but i tried both kits at the store and I decide by the feeling for the Yamaha TDX 522k. I will recommend you try them before you buy any. If you are searching for a normal e-drum kit to practice and some recording both are great options. This will never replace an Acostic drum kit. This is my personal opinion hope it helps.
Cing-cing hauuuu....

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
These kits sadly always look like expensive kid sized toys
"Not quite my tempo"
Way too small!
