      I have a 2012 the cylinder nearest the driver is burning oil my machanic said that ring was collapsed in that cylinder could it be just the valve cover? It has 180000miles on it

    Had a 2009 Sierra. I had to replace the oil pressure sensor twice and had crazy oil consumption. I replaced the valve cover with the bigger pcv valve in it and switched to full synthetic oil and it stopped burning so much oil. But I had a nearly trouble free 200k before I traded it in. Great truck!

    What about the lifters in cylinders 1,7,4,6? They wipe cam lobes, bend pushrods and destroy rocker arms.

  • @rustyshackelford7651
    @rustyshackelford7651 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Broken exhaust manifold bolts. Causing an exhaust leak "ticking" which a lot of people think is a lifter. Gm went with regular old bolts on the exhaust manifold and after about 10yrs or so the bolt heads break off from stress and heat cycling; then the manifold moves away from the head and leaks. Extracting these broken bolts can be extremely difficult especially if it's the dreaded driver's side rear there is very little access. The bolts that break are usually driver's rear, driver's front and passenger rear. They sell aftermarket clamps that bolt to preexisting holes in the cylinder head then a bolt puts pressure on the manifold to seal up a leak. It's a bandaid but can work. So gm knows about the issue and designed around it. Most manufacturers use studs to avoid these problems.

    Hey 1A-Auto ,
    U guys also suppose to mention next:
    That GM engine: especially v8 are very sensitive with: 1. oil change postponing.
    2. Oil consumption burning (afm or dod systems, all , all , all issues are these AFM, DOD. innovation in these vehicles,
    Because previous generations till 2006 was regular hydraulic lighters but no v4 or v8 gas savings mode,
    .
    That AFM DOD,
    killing previous good GM engines reputation,
    A lot of people have to doing expensive AFM,DOD DELETE KIT AND BIG JOB DONE,.[ or buying RANGE DEVICE $220] AND KEEP IT PLUGGED IN ODB PORT ALL THE TIME.👍🙏
    .
    3. Head gasket blows and leaking after 150,k.miles. on these vehicles.
    So please make a new episode, and mention these only three major Issues on these v8 engines : 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, and 6.2L
    Called AFM (active fuel management)
    From 2007 to 2010 or 2020
    BUT from 2020 and 2021 they make again something new , some customers says that that experiencing even worse things
    Called DFM(dynamic fuel management).
    So they asking GMcomp.
    To make a recall,
    And now gm offering a some Silverados with out DFM and fully working v8 fully time engines on these trucks.🤝👍👍👍

    • @MrIvesston
      @MrIvesston 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once they start getting a lot of miles, the lifter tick is probably fairly common. But if you take good care, change the oil every 3000 miles, maybe you’ll never get a lifter tick.

    • @user-Kdaddy
      @user-Kdaddy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @alexehhhh

      A lot of the lifter tick issue (what you actually hear) is exhaust manifold leaks. Very few that I've come across with more than like 250k km (155k ish miles) has some form of exhaust leak that emits a lifter tick noise.

    The 305 V8 is one of the last engines GM made right. They rely on an old technology (waste spark ignition as opposed to coil-on-plug ignition) but that technology is pretty much bulletproof per its simplicity. Only thing is, when you service the distributor cap and rotor, make sure to align the rotor to the correct time, otherwise your ignition will be ever so slightly out of time, causing the engine to run rough.

    I have the 2007 5.3. I'm approaching 120k with it. What would everyone suggest I do in terms of maintance to prepare for the milestone? Truck was well taken care of by previous owner (elderly man) and I have changed the oil regularly. Bought it 2 years ago at 86k miles, have 118k now. Recently replaced the throttle body 150miles ago, but am having trouble relearning the idle manually. I want this truck to last so any advice is well appreciated!

    • @williamscore5322
      @williamscore5322 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to do an idle relearn with a scan tool. Probably cheaper to have a shop or dealer do it than buying a scanner with that capability. As far as maintenance, frequent oil changes (3-5k mile interval) seem to be the cure for AFM issues.

    • @calidream9273
      @calidream9273 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would do spark plugs/wires. And check you're transmission fluid color. If you do the transmission oil change I suggest dropping the pan and replace the filter. Lube shops will just suck the old fluid out and not replace the filter.

    I bought a 2012 April of last year. When I buy a used vehicle, I always change all fluids front to back even the gear oil in front and back differentials. The truck takes 6 quarts of full synthetic 5w30 oil. Here's what happened to me one day.... In January my family and I were coming home from taking my son to the doctor when the check engine light came on. I got the truck home (Thank God) hooked it up to my OBDII scanner and it wash the oil pressure sensor. I was going to replace it but a guy on here told me to check my oil first. When I checked it, the dipstick didn't have a drop of oil on it. (I FLIPPED OUT) I just paid $18K on this truck! So, I went ahead and ordered both valve covers because I wanted both of them to be clean and to also match one another. I've installed both of them, but I've not checked to see if it worked because after installing them the passenger side pcv outlet on the new one has a flared end on it and the original didn't have that. So, I went to Advanced Auto to buy a rubber hose to use on it after I cut the pressure clip off of the pcv hose. I also decided to get me and new gas cap while I was at it. Anyways, I hope and pray that the new valve covers help the "Oil Consumption Problem." I'm sort of worried about it though because that's a lot of oil being consumed in just 4,000 - 4,500 miles. Yes, I've also checked for leaks and there were none. I've seen vehicles that are burning oil, but this truck doesn't do like that. The only time I've seen blue smoke out of the exhaust pipe is when climbing a hill, but it's just a small amount and then it's gone. If you were not paying attention to it, you wouldn't notice it. I've also checked my antifreeze for oil to and if good. Another thing, after I change the oil the dipstick doesn't read right which has me stumped. It should be on the full area, but it shows as if I put 12 quarts instead of 6. I'm thinking it got the wrong dipstick in it, but if anyone knows something different let me know.

My pickup runs great but coming home today the rpm gauge jumped up to 5k but the pickup speed and sound did not change! when I reached home and shut the truck off the rpm gauge stayed at about 2500. Trucks running great, no problems, no warning or codes showing. HELP

    Thanks for the information. I have a 2013 Sierra that's ready to hit 120k and just love it. It still runs great and looks good. I just put some tape around it for now until I find a better solution.

    Stay away from GMC. I have 2013 GMC Sierra. Bought brand new. It is a POS! Has the GMC known lifter/cam shaft defect at 123K miles! Why isn"t there a class action suit against GMC for continuing to push out defective engines???

      I had the same issue with 2013 Silverado. After this truck, I am dome with GM.

      @@1AAuto I'd also like to see a review of the V-6. I bought a used 2012 Silverado W/T about 2 1/2 years ago with 58,838 miles on it, and have put about 1,700 on it. I like it but it needs a set of headers and a cat-back.
      Fair winds and following seas to all.

    Driver side motor mount. Buy the solid mount that is for the Hummer H3. Also get a tuner and turn off the AFM.
