    Hi Lads, just to help you., I bought an Arbortech saw. Its brilliant. Cuts saw action 80% less dust than a whizzer. Expensive. But saves time.. use it for all situations. . Also I noticed your breathing heavy.please make sure you have a good break, holiday, even health Spa when u can.. YOU DESERVE IT MATE ! Massage, jacuzzi etc. From an x Brickie

    Use white cement mixed with building sand to point up a sill like that and it shall blend right in , all the best , great job as always .

    This was absolutely brilliant I’m doing exactly the same to my own garage in the summer.
    Can you brick direct onto the slab even if you’re not sure if there’s a footing there or not?

    Nice neat job that lads when done right these little garage conversions can add a belting room to a house. Forgive me if you cover this as I've only watched up to the halfway point but it would realy smarten the look of the front of the house if the existing cills got a clean up and possibly painted to look fresh and new again it would be a nice little Saturday morning job far ya.

    Correct me I’m wrong, but don’t you need to dig a footing to comply with building regs???

      No as long as the slab in minimum 150 mm thick , reinforced and a Dpm underneath which are all standard practice now , plus these garages are built soils across the door openings so everything is sat on a wall anyway 💪🏼🧱👍🏽

    That was a brilliant way of taking the garage door off. I bricked a garage door up a few years ago and nearly killed myself removing the door. The spring shot off just missed me......phew

    A bit late to the party here but, is there any requirement to do anything with the floor slab - insulate? And are building regs generally needed to convert a garage into a habitable room?

      Building regs are required but we always convert our garages to regs standards .
      The floor has a floating timber floor put in with 100 mm celotex insulation in it .👌🏼🧱👍🏽

      Yes they did and why would they refs fire door 🚪? It’s not a garage anymore so no fire risk 🤷🏼‍♂️

    All garages should get the same treatment...don’t about others, but never put a car in one, only ever used for ‘storage’...mind you, most garage nowadays, unless they’re double garages, don’t fit today’s cars...unless the doors slide open, and even then it’s a pretty tight fit. Though the plastic air bricks might be a bit low to the concrete block paving at the front, are they going to take out some of the blocks there?

      Unfortunately the groundwork’s put the slab in level so it’s 75 mm too high at the front . We should have 150mm to damp .
      On the plus side the drive is at the top of a slope and if any water does ever get in the floor is suspended so there is a void underneath 👌🏼🧱👍🏽

    Question please - What’s the purpose of the wide black (DPM/DPC?) tray from the inner to the lower, outer, brickwork and would it be there if the stone mantel wasn’t present? (I’m not a builder). Many thanks.

      It’s a cavity tray , the same as you see above lintels on houses . It’s a long winded explanation, but it’s there mainly because building control want it in 🧱👍🏼

      @@SteveAndAlexBuild Sawzall - it's the Milwaukee brand name for a reciprocating saw. Any reciprocating saw will do (even mains) its the Irvine masonary blade that's the important bit. Those blades aren't cheap (about £30l but last forever & will plunge cut really easily 👍😁

      They have to vent the floor and we only have 1 course to damp. Can’t put periscope vents in because of the cavity tray . Luckily the drive slopes away .🧱👍🏽

      you had a new window in and if you bang those blocks of the window would you own up
      I think its a builders thing and its not your house its a job thats what I mean
      you done a good neat job but I think the window should have been last in after the blocks were in your van
