    The only thing that you need to know about flat earthers is demonstrated in this conversation. Eric asked about the fact that locations on the same meridian line grow farther apart as they approach the equator from the northern hemisphere but then grow closer together as they move away from the equator in the southern hemisphere. Flat earth disproved. Full stop. Their response? To immediately change the subject (talking about what longitude is), not answer the question, and repeatedly lie about the subject (longitude was first developed with a round earth model and a geographic location of Alexandria as 0 degrees). So in other word they run away from positive disproof, lie, obfuscate and bluster. Typical...

      This is exactly what happens in every conversation I have with flerfs. I bring up star trails in the southern hemisphere and they respond with "Well, why does Polaris stay in one position forever if we're moving so fast through space?" Not only is their script factually wrong but they cannot have any conversation about anything outside of their script.

    It's because a circle has 360° and a day has 24 hours so it works out to 15°/hr.

    Lol so let me get this straight... The sun stays the same size all day, which means it's not moving much. Then suddenly at sunset it accelerates wildly?
    Do they even realize they're kinda proving a round earth if they coordinated with people in other time zones? East coast would "observe the sun moving super fast suddenly", meanwhile the guy at the west coast wouldn't see any size change...

  • @slim22rb
    @slim22rb 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    The angular size of the Sun doesn't change by 13%, it changes by a just few percent from aphelion to perihelion (over the course of a year).

    • @freddan6fly
      @freddan6fly 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The 13% is the angular size change of the moon from aphelion to perihelion (over the course of a month).

    "I'm in GMT+1, where am I?"
    Well that depends on the time of the year. The UK is at GMT+1 half of the year, it is at GMT+0 the other half.
    In (northern) winter GMT+1 is CET. So that is between 10W to 30E (west most part of Spain to east most part for Norway).
    In (nothern) winter GMT is from 18W to 26E ( west of Western Sahara tp east of C.A.R.).
    If the Sun sets these time zones, how can they overlap in this way?

    I love how Flerfs use the fact that they don’t have one settled upon model to all answer questions differently. Prime example….
    One guy says the sun gets smaller, it’s just that refraction makes it look bigger (because it’s hot like a piece of iron???? 😂😂😂)
    Meanwhile, the next guy claims….no, the sun actually does appear smaller in the sky. He claims it’s 14% smaller and you can measure it everytime.
    But, the two guys don’t seem to disagree with each other. They only disagree with Planet Peterson

    We don't use GMT anymore, we use UTC. For my life, we have used satellites to locate 0 deg, it is 100m away from the telescope method because of inaccuracies in determining zenith. The telescopes at the Greenwich observatory used star transits of the eye piece. Not the sun or they would have to have found a new astronomer after two observations.

    The flerfs were talking about celestial coordinate system that is generally used to get positions of celestial objects, such as stars. While that can be mapped to Earth's longitude and latitude, forming an *ecliptic* longitude and latitude, it is not same as *geographic* longitude and latitude. Geographical (that we generally use) and ecliptical (used in astronomy) coordinate systems are different things, but both agree with each other. Flerfs here are trying by fallacy to say that they are same thing. Geographical coordinate system doesn't use Sun, while ecliptical coordinate system can use Sun (but not limited to it).
