  • These wonderful recordings are part of a project to produce an album of Bach-Siloti transcriptions. Tragically, the Pianist James Barbagallo died unexpectedly before the project was completed. Recorded in December of 1995.
The Toccata and Fugue is one of Bach's most famous pieces written for Organ and transcribed here for piano. Some scholars question for technical and stylistic reasons whether this piece was actually composed by Bach. Other scholars suggest that the Organ version is a Bach violin piece later transcribed for Organ by some other composer (the original violin manuscript being lost).

Such a transcription of this organ piece was also my wife's Master's Thesis in college. She used to play it for me sometimes -- on her 7-ft grand, Bösendorfer-insides, Schwander-action piano. Kinda nice. (I'd lay under the piano, on the rug, to get the full effect of the sound-board. )
