    Thank you. I used to hang out in Portsmouth back in the 1980s and early 90s. Since then I’m in the big city of Boston. Love it here, but miss the quiet charm of Portsmouth.

      Glad you enjoyed it. It's a good contrast to have Portsmouth and Boston. That way you can have your top choice but visit the other on occasion to balance the vibes.

      Yes, I have good memories of bringing my kids to the pool and park over there. If you ever get extra time, you might like the harbor tour because the boat takes you all around to places you can't see from the shore.

    Portsmouth in Halloween is spectacular. My coworkers and I walked around after work a few years ago and saw a bunch of activities for kids during that time of October. And pro tip - park at the main garage for cheaper rates.

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The main garage is also much less stressful regarding avoiding parking tickets. I no longer park with the meters because no matter how hard you try to do it right, you still risk messing it up somehow and getting a ticket. The main garage has a clear rate and they are more understanding than the meter maids.

    🍁🍁🍂🍂🍃 Great video! Portsmouth is such a lovely town. Can you tell us about the climate/weather? How hot/cold does NH get? And, is Portsmouth b*l*a*c*k* friendly?

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The weather changes with the seasons but people are out everyday unless there is a huge storm. You can search on the internet for the time of year you are there. Right now in fall it is 50s and 60s, sometimes a t-shirt, sometimes a jacket. I wish I had friends of color so I could get a true answer on the diversity welcoming question. To me, I think it is welcoming, but how can I really know. I will say it feels a lot safer at night than many places due to how many shops are open, lights are on, people are out having fun, bands playing, etc. In this sense, it is a community feeling where the majority are friendly.

    • @ghostofcoolidge245

      @@RachelWhelton I wouldn't know how to answer the question "is a town black friendly" I'm black and I live in Columbia, South Carolina. There's no town or city that I've ever been to that wasn't black friendly. I've been to many cities in the deep south and I haven't had to deal with racism lurking around the corner or anything.

    Is Portsmouth largely a tourist destination? Can you live real life there?

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can live there in real life. Long time locals say prices in certain areas (of housing) have gone up a lot and the town is more populated. It is likely in a slow process of change towards becoming more premium/exclusive but for now it still has a lot of space and every size home and job. I live less than half hour away but that was so we could have a bit more space like a cheaper house and bigger land piece.

    Quick question is there any other people other then white? No offense

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I fully respect this question and we chat about diversity in our family. I grew up in San Diego where there was more diversity than here in New Hampshire. Portsmouth does seem to be mostly white people walking down the road with occasional people that offer some type of diversity, but not always of color, sometimes just from other places or cultures. I can't say what it's like to be a person of color living here but at least in general I do not sense negativity. Vague thing to judge I guess but I've been many other places that "felt" less welcoming. Hope this answers your question in some way.

    • @Kal-El207
      @Kal-El207 ปีที่แล้ว

      No there’s mostly white people all throughout New England in the nice areas. I’m from Providence Rhode Island. Providence, Pawtucket, and Woonsocket are the only areas where there’s diversity. I’m Dominican and I’d say Prov is the most diverse city next to Nashua NH, and Boston MA. New England is very racially divided. And white people know they have the upper hand in the good areas. Cops will adjust your location too by driving you back to the diverse areas if you get into an altercation. They will also make sure you do get charged with something as well if they see you have 1 little tiny ounce of attitude. This will all happen if you’re brown like I am or darker. That’s just how New England is and will always be. Unfortunately.

      This was in the morning and the city was a bit slow to wake up this day. I don't feel people are too scared here. In fact maybe they need to be more cautious. However, yes, later in the day the city would be more bustling. And also yes - it is slower than usual.
