If anyone is interested there's a youtuber who goes over almost all the episodes of Banned Broadcasts named Tara A. Devlin. While Saiko The Large Family is interesting the third episode of Banned Broadcast called "Stalker Hell" is the one that grabbed my attention the most. There's a quote from a psychologist in that episode "Stalkers don't see themselves as the perpetrator, they see themselves as the victim." I won't tell how that quote ties into the narrative but when you do put all the pieces together it's a very dark picture.

i think the poison was meant to make him sick/weaken him so they could psychically take him on because he's stronger than everyone else in the family. it may have been strong enough to kill a cat but not a grown man. also the father mightve been the one who came up w the photograph lie to try and cover up his crime to the family but they all saw through it but played along to use it against him (i dont know japanese and havent seen the film myself so there may be holes in this)
Agreed; he was preciously a carpenter so he works with his hands and with manual labor, so even for a growing boy, the son could possibly/probably be overpowered
That's what I was thinking too, that the dad started the photograph plan and the family used it against him, hence why he didn't attend the exorcism because he already knew it wasn't real.
but also, since the photograph came from a gachapon, it's highly likely that one of the kids brought it home explained what it was, then Takaharu drowned, mom decides that enough is enough and then makes a plan (she goes ahead and does the work to get more of the same card and then creates the storyline) it could very well be that both the parents were in on the haunted picture ploy (dad so that there wasn't suspicion on him, mom with her own agenda to kill dad -- keeping in mind how she turns in the sequel, it's possible that she originally wanted to just save the kids and herself but, obviously, it's hard to break the cycle and it's likely that, more than anything, she doesn't like not being in control, which is what the whole plot gave her)
Just want to point out that the father most likely died from Gouki's strike with the bat. The drawing at 21:56 says おにいちゃんがパパをジャストミート which roughly translates to, "Big brother hit dad right in the head". This also makes sense seeing how Gouki became a shut-in in the sequel and doesn't want to play baseball anymore seeing how he used his bat to kill someone. Edit: ジャストミート is wasei eigo (literal translation is "just-meet") for hitting the ball squarely and it seems to be a term used in baseball based on the dictionary that I searched.
To add to this, though it's been a bit since I watched both films so I forget which part it was in, I recall there being a scene wherein one of the documentary crew is allowed to taste the powder that is being added to the father's dish and dismisses it as nothing more than an ordinary seasoning. To me, that suggests the idea that the mother was poisoning her partners was more of a red herring than anything, which makes the cat's death another tragic instance of the same.
I mean, the cat could have definitely died from the over seasoned meat, to be fair. Depending on how much more seasoning and what is in it it could have made it sick. @@underscore-hyphen
Yeah, My theory is they tried to poison the father originally, but the dose wasn't enough to kill him, only the cat, which is why they just resulted to just beating his head in with a bat. I also agree with you as to that being the reason as to why Gouki is a shut-in. Even if his dad was an abusive POS, he still killed a man, and that could mess anyone up, especially a child.
Consider: the drawing of the dad being hit by the baseball bat may be based on the son describing that his "practice" is motivated by him fantasizing about beating his abusive father?
Both biological parents are unhinged. The cycle did repeat itself in that one instant when the kids took it upon themselves to place their mother into a coma. That itself must have been a unanimous decision amongst the older children and then they had to lie to the younger children about what happened to their mother. I do feel bad for the cat though. Throughout ALL of this, the cat seems to have been the only and genuine innocent party in all of this. The mother wanted to instill psychological fear in the children while the father wanted to instill physical fear in the children.
But hey, at least there'd be some little hope in the end since the stepfather genuinely loves the kids and is willing to do everything for them. Although yeah, it's sad that a cat got winded up into this and ended up killed.
Still think they waited for the mother to find a good father and when they realised he truly loved the kids and wanted them best for them that’s when they chose to get rid of the mum
I think the claim that the photo first appeared before Takaharu died was a lie created to bolster the narrative that the cursed photo was the root cause of everything. By the time Takaharu had drowned (most likely at the hands of their father), it was the final straw that broke the camels back and the continued abuse even after he killed one of their sons was what finally made the mother come up with the idea to kill him. And honestly, it makes sense. After seeing that he's capable of going as far as killing their children and could easily do it again with how often he abuses the others, why wouldn't she take extreme measures to make sure he could never do it again? Planting the photo and lying about how kind and loving of a father he was is an alibi of sorts; it makes the "disappearance" seem like it's one of many tragedies in a pattern, and acting like he was a dearly beloved father would make it seem like they'd have no motive or relation to his disappearance. As for why the mother herself became abusive? I think she started resenting the kids because of the combined responsibility of being a single mother and the responsibility of keeping the secret of what she had them do, and it wore on her. It's a sacrifice that could literally break apart the family she tried to protect if discovered. And a lot of parental abuse gets easily justified by the abuser being stressed by a situation, and that directing it to the child is "an accident" or that it's deserved while the abuser was "blowing off steam" or whatever. TLDR I think the "cursed" picture was a red herring the mom used on purpose to make it seem like there was no abuse and thus no reason to implicate the family + the moms shift from savior to another abuser is likely motivated by resentment for her situation
Agreed, I wish I had read your comment before making my own about the photo and Takaharu's death, since you lay it out so well here. Sidenote: I also like that it makes sense that Keichiro would go along with the curse narrative because it masks his abuse, but isn't fully "in on it" since the ultimate purpose of the narrative is to explain away his disappearance. Also, Ringo being "affected" by the exorcism was totally a part of the ruse.
A child getting a “swollen eye” from something other than allergies or pink eye? 👀 👀 It makes the fact that Ringo decides to go home after hearing that Ryuta was hurt in the sequel all the more meaningful. It’s clear that she realized the same issues are repeating themselves again. 😔
Feels like they were slowly poisoning the dad but then he did something so horrible that the son perhaps couldn't take it any longer but obviously killing his own father with a bat took a toll on him
In 12:48 i think the exorcist is chanting "Maka Hanyya Haramita Shingyo" which is the Heart Sutra. Im foggy with the details but i think it mainly talks about emptiness like desiring nothing and such, which if you dont desire stuff then theres nothing that would lead you astray.
As for Ringo's reaction, the scene involved long exposure to a raised voice and loud noises. What she was experiencing could've easily been trauma or overstimulation, and having the exorcist respond by singling her out could've prolonged the breakdown until it became a shutdown.
I think the older kid finished him with the baseball bat which may explain why he became a hikikomori for feeling as part of the blame he decided to finish the mom who probably manipulated him into doing it so he knew it was his responsibility
Some projects are ahead of their audiences time I hope that the creators see the peak of interest and continue the series maybe even going further back in time when the “accidents” happen
Leaving some questions unanswered gives it that documentary feel. Makes it more believable. In life we don't always get answers. That's for films and fiction. This story really interests me. Either way it's just a tragic story that really gets into your brain. I'm so thankful that you introduced it to me!
theres a bit of concern for them because if we take it that the older kids plotted upon the mothers coma in the second one then this is them kind of perpetuating the cycle even if somewhat justifiable
At 22:44 I think the mom found the photograph before her sons death and after he died she thought of it as haunted or some sort of cause or contributer to his death so she made copies and distributed them so that way the hauntings in the picture kill her husband
It feels like as is often with poisoning cases the mother misjudged how much poison it would take to kill her husband. Rather than try again after the poisoning failed. She convinced her son to finish him off.

I love how the series are connected and gives you time to really think about every scene, every dialogue, and every angle of the series. Wow, perfect timing. I just rewatched your video on the sequel yesterday because it was so good. So interesting to see this "prequel". I love these kinds of horror stories because there is so much to analyze.
Here's a theory I thought of while watching this: What if the mother was the villain all along? Rather than the "seasoning" being a poison, what if it was some sort of drug that caused mood instability and violent outbursts? This would mean that the father may have been genuine in his love for his family, but the drug caused him to become abusive, which ultimately led to the son fighting back with his bat. By the time of the second film, the daughter may have learned the truth about the drug, explaining why she said her father was kind while showing sadness. This is just based on these videos. I'd really like to track down the full films to watch myself.
Funny how people will actually excuse this awful man and still want to bash on the mother. Don’t get me wrong the mom is awful as well, but going out of your way to excuse his violence ? Really?
@@Emma88178 Emma, there are too many men who are abusive and in my life I've also seen abusive women who did it by not being direct one way, direct another way, and then some people knew and they couldn't do much. So the food theory hits at my experience, although no one was ever poisoned that I think of. I couldn't do much. I was hurt by someone who invited me in as the family friend only to see she felt so outshined that everything I did was a threat to her. I've been hurt by men that others wanted me to excuse. Basically to say that they had done nothing wrong, that I was sorry for having stood up for myself and disrupted things. I wonder if you've had direct experience with abuse. So many of us do. I also think instead of jumping down @TheM0T's throat with accusations you could express why seeing this film that way doesn't reflect how you see things or what you think society should see. Being seen as wanting to hurt others can hurt. I once defended someone and a thread was started where it was treated like I had said the opposite and I still struggle with it. All the people who liked their comments, what was said.... I actaully reached out to as many people as I could. One person in the thread said they had never thought I was bad, they misunderstood my wording at first. Honestly, one person I reached out to who had liked at least one comment brought up points I never even said, although a comment above mine had. Some people said they didn't rememeber liking comments against me, one person said they only partially liked a comment against me, some changed their minds, some had read things wrong. I still have problems from that day, although similar situations or predicting I would struggle if I was ever in a situation like this is a part of it. That's a point though. We don't always know where someone is. I'm hoping both of you can come together and not feel so hurt.
I haven't even fully realized until now that I'm an early subscriber of this channel. I subscribed when no one knew of this channel. Like seriously under 1k. Her voice has changed some. I drop in every few months/years to see what reignbot has been up to.
A small TH-camr made videos for all the parts of this horror series. i remember how they were on hiatus and after another TH-camr's videos about the first movie went viral they came back to finish the whole series
I feel like if the death of the other child is somehow foul play it definitely is related to the father, that would explain why the mother took such a drastic step also in the drawing the father was pushed in a river, didn't that child also die like that.. why river if it's not related.. the mother ain't the perpetrator it can be seen that she cares for her child, as when her young child tried to go for the meat she immediately stopped him saying that it's still early morning.. also after their dad death them not having any injuries is also another proof...
Sidenote: i remember watching "Unbelievable" in 2014 which was still a show back then (believe it or not). I was in Japan visiting my grandparents and i remember they were talking about this bizarre story about hearing voices in a road barrier that turned out to be coming from the radio station not too far away.

Thanks Reignbot. I came across this show during covid. Couldn't make sense of it especially because there were children involved. It was great to explore these vids with you
Oh my god FINALLY I’ve been wanting your take on this ever since you mentioned it in the first video!
I’ve spent like 2 days trying to find your channel again, I could not for the life of me remember the channel name, and I was trying everything, so ended up going through my decade old watch later list from beginning back, I’m so glad I did, and gladder you post still. I was convinced you were removed from the internet
I like how ambiguous the original was as a standalone because we could allude to the same conclusion, without being too on the nose.
That whole praying sequence was incredible, even if this was acting, it was incredibly powerful
yeah that was great, i had to skip it the first time, made me so uncomfortable
I've seen lots of horror movies, but that scene of all the family members reacting to the Dad eating the "seasoned" meat with the cat is absolutely unnerving. Brilliant.
She slept all summer and woke up in fall
I've been pining for Reign-Bot to release her follow-up review to the first mocumentary! Yay!!!
I love the lore! plus the scene in the other movie still creeped me out, when the mother spies on them😖😣. I love how the series are connected and gives you time to really think about every scene, every dialogue, and every angle of the series. I really hope we could know more of this, just to confirm some theories. Thank you so much for the content I really enjoyed it. Even though it creeps me out, I'm glad I was able to watch this even though its night 😣
YESSS I FINALLY WATCHED SAIKO A FEW DAYS AGO
Hey! Where can I watch these short films? It looks right up my ally
I immediately watched the mockumentary after your first video, and it was great. They really need to make an actual film out of this, it's got so many layers and is so compelling.
This series has that tense, eerily quiet build up with hidden messages throughout like Signs - the most underrated horror movie of all time.
You should explain the other episodes from the anthology. I like how they depict subtle horror and making viewers create their own interpretation
I have been waiting for this video since forever and im so glad its here. This is a great analysis video and I am so invested in this mockumentary and I hope theres more
Please tell me what weird cosmic coincidence that I remembered this movie just now in this moment, started searching for it, ended up at the previous installment, and see this follow up posted only a day ago 😭👏🏽👏🏽
i saw this on my feed and I went YESS!! YESSSSS!!! because I liked the video u made before, and was so curious about the prequel.. I'm glad to see this continued
Wow, perfect timing. I just rewatched your video on the sequel yesterday because it was so good. So interesting to see this "prequel". I love these kinds of horror stories because there is so much to analyze.
Literally dropped everything to come watch this
Both of these films put together make for a masterwork of a story.
I really hope they make a third one. I am completely invested in this crazy family now!
14:07 Great example of unintentional comedy lol.
the way I LOVE this mockumentary because it's genuinely eerie
Gonna use this in my new mix tape 14:25
Fr lowkey a beat
psychic spittin’ bars
I was thinking the EXACT same thing 💀
omg i remember watching the first video you made about this! i loved it good work!!
Been waiting for this one!! Thank you ReignBot
I can't help feeling bad for the cat.
Really?
yup the older kid was manipulated by the mom so he did klled him which is why he became a hikikomori
@@Emma88178 All M0T did was offer a possibility, nothing more.
@@Emma88178 Gal, that's not what he said. They are just offering their own opinion.
I'm hoping both of you can come together and not feel so hurt.
ughh i love this kinda content, hope you make more of these
poisoning dad is fine, but man its sad that the cat got involved.
i mean he said it himself .. °daijobu desu°
I watched your first video the week it came out. glad I stayed for the ride
Yay, I've been looking forward to you making this video!

Omg i was just thinking about if Reignbot was gonna do the prequel. ❤❤❤ im so happy
Finally. I was waiting forever since your last vid ab that mockumentary.
This does put a lot of the behavior we saw in the other vid into perspective.
I haven't even fully realized until now that I'm an early subscriber of this channel. I subscribed when no one knew of this channel. Like seriously under 1k. Her voice has changed some. I drop in every few months/years to see what reignbot has been up to.

I was soooo hoping you would cover this! Time to get spooky!
Wait this is not a trick?
What a treat!
yeeesssss omg I was waiting for this video!!!!
A small TH-camr made videos for all the parts of this horror series. i remember how they were on hiatus and after another TH-camr's videos about the first movie went viral they came back to finish the whole series
The thing with the morning beef explains so much.
I hope you do one for the sequel ❤
You have no idea how much I’ve waited for this…
It's good to see you again. Carry on.
I've been waiting ages for this
I stumbled upon the first mockumentary randomly last week and now I got the prequel too. Shout outs to TH-cam algorhythm.
STOP I WAS HOPING THERE WAS MORE TO THAT MOCUMENTARY
this mocumentary has been living in my brain rent free since I saw your video on it. I just saw this in my recommended. fuck yes.
Sidenote: i remember watching "Unbelievable" in 2014 which was still a show back then (believe it or not). I was in Japan visiting my grandparents and i remember they were talking about this bizarre story about hearing voices in a road barrier that turned out to be coming from the radio station not too far away.
Omg! I found you yesterday through the first video and here is the prequel. I felt like I was chosen one now cause I was like if she made the one on prequel
Great videos ive been waited for the you to watch and see this part ! Love your videos keep up the great work and cant wait to see your works in the future!!
I'm sorry but the exorcist just going ALL OUT on Ringo for no reason is so funny to me. Like chill girl she ain't even the dark spirit you claim is in this house 😭
