Yep, just MORE unfounded hate for Sega coming from all the Nintendo fanboys... 🙄 Just simply because the Genny is the 'PREFERRED' tried-and-true 16-bit platform to develop homebrews and ports on, and also because it's getting a few more extra new games added to its ever-growing library!
Tanglewood is actually a decent sized game. You have to use the B button while yellow to glide to the part you couldn't reach before. Then, you get other power ups. Quite a fun game. Another one I like is called Demons of Asteborg.

Of all the Sega homebrews (or new games for old consoles) I've played, I would rate them in order: Xenocrisis, Demons of Asteborg, Ultracore, Tanglewood, Curse of Illmore Bay, the Cursed Knight, Life on Mars and Attack of the Petscii Robots.
Bone marrow looks like it's meant to be a clone of the web game 2048. The idea is that you are meant to get to 2048 by merging tiles of the same value. Done by sliding the blocks of the same value into each other. The general trick of the game is to hold the high value tile in one of the corners.
04:30 Drunk as I like MY TIME TO SHINE! This seems to be one of the many, many fan games based on the Touhou series. And it is indeed a bullet hell series (with a crap ton of fans). The girls name is Suika Ibuki and she is an Oni, the type that really likes to drink. My guess this is an abstract thing that depicts one of her many bar escapades. The pickles are a reference to another character named Nitori, who adores them. Still not sure why they are here. Not sure about the lamps. And finally, the title is the name of a popular piece of music that acts as her theme in one of the fighters. Check out Touhou. Its one hell of a rabbit hole.
[2:23] I'm a year late for this, but here are the popups from _Bone Marrow_ translated from Russian into English. "Одинаковые предметы можно объединять" - "Same items can be merged". "Индикатор дня и ночи: Сейчас ночь" - "Day-night indicator: It's nighttime" "Наступил день, теперь вы можете поднимать предметы" - "Daytime has come and you may now pick up items"
Tanglewood is a great game. I've played the heck out of it. When you return a Fuzzle to it's nest you get to borrow it's power for a short time. You change color when this happens. When you're yellow you can glide across large gaps that you can't jump. Other powers include 'slowing time' and taming beasts that would otherwise kill you. I don't think there is a ROM available for Paprium but it is coming to modern consoles... but my guess is it will be a long wait.
A lot of very interesting new games here. Beside the nice looking shooters and puzzle platformers a few really stand out such as Reknum, which has a really cool dark ambient Black Metal atmosphere to it. Mega Q*Bert looks like a good take on the PS1 and Dreamcast Q*Bert games as well as Q*Bert 3 on the SNES. Tanglewood looks very promising and XenoCrisis is a great Smash TV inspired selection. I'm looking forward to trying them all out.
Some of these are pretty solid, while the others.... ehhh. Thing is, I'm not a programmer, but I totally tip my hat to these guys just the same. Besides, the homebrew scene in general has been on fire lately, so there's always something golden right around the corner. Matter of fact, I think any cartridge based system is 'ripe for the pickens' as far great new content is concerned. Great video my friend, and also a great way to showcase titles that many of us would probably never see otherwise.
Some of them are really really great (Final Fight for example.) Others you can see they are just getting their feet wet. Still... They're all better than I could do!
I noticed that too... Glad I'm not the only one. Makes me feel less dirty. But I guess if there's a tiddy out, even if it is literally 6 pixels and like 1\32 of an inch big, I'mma find it immediately. 🤣🤣
27:32 is a bootleg released a long time ago. There's also a version called Sonic Jam 6. Same with the game afterwards. It was modeled after something but I can't remember what. Another odd one to try is Super Mario World 64.
Yeah, both of the Mario games on here are ancient bootlegs from the late 90's or early 00's at the very latest. The one titled "Super Mario World" is actually a hacked version of Squirrel King, which is a bootleg based on Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers on NES. What's funny is that if you play far enough into it, the Mario themed graphics are dropped and it reverts back to Squirrel King. They never even finished the hack.
You can have good voice samples on the Genesis as long as cart size isn't an issue. Back then ROM space was expensive and bankswitchers also added cost. If you were really slick you could probably decode a channel or two of ADPCM on the Z80, but that would prevent you from using it to do other things, like mux multiple channels. So might not be worth the tradeoff.
"The speed of the game is just.. too fast". That's all that blast processing man! When programming Megadrive the trick is to slow things down to make it playable :P . And that's hard, as that creates friction and heat :P, so sometimes you have just have to have sections of the game were you "gotta go fast". Sonic wasn't fast by wish, but by necessity :P .
Great video! I've always thought that Maniac Mansion would have been an amazing Master System Port or even better a 16-bit Genesis port! I wish someone would do a homebrew of that!

Shrine Maiden Shizuka looks really good probably my fave out of all of themalso Metal Slug it's going to be awesome once it's finished of course Final Fight looks amazing and more complete than the release from Capcom Xeno Crisis looks fantastic really colorful graphics thanks for making this video
Beach Volleyball is a conversion of a very early Atari ST/Amiga game by Ocean, it was quite primitive. Same for Ivanhoe. Same studio (Ocean France), same graphical style which was quite impressive for 1987-1988, same basic gameplay.
Did you try it? Some dude put the rom of the game and told us to buy it of we like it. I have it on my Sega Genesis emulator that's on my phone! It's AWESOME and i will definitely officially buy it to support the creator so he can make more cool games.
Great showcase here man. Irena: Genesis Metal Fury is my personal favorite of the bunch, it's insanely polished and plays smooth as butter. You should check out Insane Pain too if you haven't, great little cyberpunk fighting game. Feels rough around the edges at first until you work out the moves and feel of the game. The final boss is hard as nails, absolutely brutal. Great soundtrack too.
Final Fight looks fantastic so far, but it should be able to run a better then that. I did notice that there can be an additional enemy on screen compared to the SNES version (4 of them at once, which would have caused major slowdown on the SNES), but I was still expecting less slowdown then this. But it's still a work in progress, so hopefully the dev will eventually be able to get rid of most of that.
Nice, but aren't those Mario ones from 1993 or something? There was a SMB1 port a few years back which is good though, just doesn't do much with the hardware.
I think it's so cool people are still making games for the genesis, but I wish I could find one that feels like an authentic genesis game... all of these look and play like indie Steam game demos tbh

Dino Runner actually uses Google dinosaur as a sprite and Sonic the Hedgehog sound effects .
Why is no Hamoopig project mentioned?
Examples Fatal Fury One, Fatal Fury Real Bout, Kunio No Nekketsu, Dino Fighers, Street Fighter 1...
Good question!!
Interesting question....where are then
Im pretty sure the music from Old Towers is a riff from the song 'Popcorn'
It is popcorn, the songs used in Old Tower are public domain I believe. and its a great game to boot.
Super Mario JUMP effect ?? 04:10 Seriously?? OMG ! Sonic might be furious with you bro!
I'm always completely baffled when these gaming channels make such obvious errors like that.

I don't think there is a ROM available for Paprium but it is coming to modern consoles... but my guess is it will be a long wait.
I think Paprium has some helper chips so it probably wouldn't work on a normal Everdrive or an emulator without updates.
A lot of very interesting new games here. Sweet Homebrews. I need to grab some of those and check them out. Saw some boobage on that beach Volleyball game in the background. 🤣

So many new games! Geeat stuff! The fighting game deserved line scrooling for the ground and a bit more work in the backgrounds.

The music for Old Towers is Popcorn by Gershon Kingsley from 1969.
I have Xeno Crisis too - brilliant game!
There are some fun interesting titles here. Some kinda look a bit better than the base genesis library IMO
Beach Volleyball is a conversion of a very early Atari ST/Amiga game by Ocean, it was quite primitive. Same for Ivanhoe. Same studio (Ocean France), same graphical style which was quite impressive for 1987-1988, same basic gameplay.
It also has a bare boob hanging out on the left side of the screen. For some reason.

Thanks for covering the Mario game. I've played it and rarely hear about it.
The ear worm song on Towers is actually Popcorn by Kraftwerk.
Bone Marrow game - looks like 2048 style clone (match numbers to double them when they touch until you get to 2048 on screen)
I want that final fight game. They even added 2 new characters from what I understand.

like how Gluf is playing the leekspin music
Foxyland you have to double jump! Its a cool game
20:30 original music: Popcorn th-cam.com/video/NjxNnqTcHhg/w-d-xo.html
Fun fact PAL roms actually run slower because they didn’t run at the same fps as us roms. So that’s not the problem with the volleyball one
Luckily i own a SEGA Mega Drive from Italy
Foxy land you can double jump. That how you get the other gem.
All I thought about when you said why would we start in England in a game called Beach Volleyball is they don’t have beaches in England? 😂😂😂
I'm surprised you couldn't tell, but bone marrow is a 2048 clone

Avoid the pickels because Yuki Chan no like them. Yuki Chan like sushi
