Why is our racecar named SoccerMom????

  • A video telling the story about our shop car SoccerMom, how she got her name, what the current combination is, details of some of our data analysis, etc. Lot's of talking, but the I talk about what is going on under the hood, under the car, and inside the car. The car is a 1979 Camaro Z28 and has a bit of an odd name for a race car. After watching the video, you will know why ;)
    Happy New Year 2021!!!!

Cool car! Amazing what little work their chassis need to rip down the track.
I also own a 79 Z, it's a pure bracket car, 10.0s running an N/A 406 Gen 1 small block. Rear suspension is the Calvert springs and bars, front is stock with Afco low friction ball joints/Moroso trick springs/Energy bushings with no upper bump stops giving me about 6" of front end travel. (Koni SPA-1 stock replacement shocks front and back) Moly 8.50 cage to wrap it up.
Keep up the great content, especially on Soccer Mom!!!

When I was in high school (early 70’s) a 12 second car was really fast. An 11 second street car pretty much ruled the streets and was almost undriveable on the street due to high compression, big solid lifter cams, etc. 10 second street cars were pretty much unheard of. Hope that makes you feel younger.

I have a sweet idea for the alternator!! Perfect for a drag car and you can chuck the starter. It was the 12-16 Malibu or LaCrosse hybrid that have the 115v E-Assist starter generator.
It will take a little tinkering but it's not much bigger than a regular alternator. The best part is that instead of costing you power at the track, it adds 15hp and 80ft-lbs of torque! Now that's an alternator! Less than $400 bux on ebay or something and the small 115v lithium ion battery pack is less than a hundred pounds including the alternator. So less the starter, it's a minimal amount of weight. (You may want to set a start timing in the tune so it cranks over fast and starts quicker without taking much juice)
You should only share that with friends and family so you don't catch any crap.

I bought a 76 Camaro as a weekend wrench project and when my son was three he would love to come out an "help" me work on it. I wanted to instill that gearhead into him and show him what you can accomplish by getting your hands dirty. One day he was standing behind it and asked what that was and was pointing at the plastic "chromed" plate that the dealer puts on all the cars they sell. It said Matthews because I bought it from Matthews Buick/GMC. So I told him and he said "so that's the cars name?" And I thought about it and said yes. So we started calling it Matthew. "...dad, are we working on Matthew today?" or "...I got the brake calipers for Matthew..." and it just stuck. Then we shortened it to Matty and that was even easier to say for a kid so it became Matty and I still have it, 23 years later. THAT is how a car gets named. It just happens. Soccer Mom is no different!

2021 has more of KSR uploads it be a good year. that car is so street i love it. so many cars saying its a street car but are one bar short of being a pro mod, but sound damping, steel almost all the way back i dig it, and your tree race was epic. till after the 60. then you got out muscled or geared i am not sure. but your attention to detail is inspiring, soccer mom RMRW 2021????
