hi, fern! as a fellow lover of super thrive, here's a quick tip: when you open new bottle, poke a hole in the seal. that way you can simply squeeze however many drops needed and not have to mess with a dropper. 😊
I’d love a Hoya dedicated plant chores video ❤ I’m just getting into them. I got an inner variegated Hoya Burtoniae bc I saw yours and I love it so much!
I'm super duper impressed your BF knows the difference between a liquid measure and a dry measuring cups. So many people wonder why their recipes don't turn out and that is usually the problem. They don't say baking is a science for nothing. 😉😊 He's a keeper.
I started watching your videos after I gave birth to my son because it was winter and I was just feeling cooped up and blue. Well, now 9 months later he watches your videos with me and I think it's absolutely adorable 🥹.
I have had a nepenthes for over 10 years,it is huge!!!My conditions:I live on the Baltic coast in Poland,my pitcher plant lives in the west facing window(it has never been in a cabinet).I have it in a big pot,the soil is an orchid mix,a lot of bark,perlite,lava...also some organic soil,it loves moisture but I water it when I remember. It is a very forgiving plant,I love it.
Ok ,I kept watching😊...I use my DIY pest solution mainly,it is water plus a paraffin oil plus a few drops of fairy/any dish soap...in appropriate proportions obviously... And I keep watching 😅
For mite treatment I’ve always done half isopropyl alcohol and half water and rub the leaves a little to remove webbing. I never need more than one treatment, works amazing.
I love when you post. It raises the vibes and always a great motivator. Do you still have your "Dead Plant"? The one that looks like sticks. If you do, can you show it in a video. Thanks Fern 🧡 🌿
I used a very similar pest solution for the first time this year, got it from a local plant shop but then started making it myself. I’m telling you, it got rid of my thrips!! It was a miracle. So I think you’ll have very good luck with it 🙏🏻
Yes!!!! That’s exactly where I found it, like 3 years ago and it’s WONDERFUL!!! I no longer use Captain Jax etc., just use some systemic here and there for more of a preventative! I hope you like it Fern! It’s a great leaf cleaner too and keeps the pests away. Any new plants that come in get sprayed with this too. You should make up some gallon jugs and have it on hand. I’m telling you g you it’s worth it. And it does smell great. I don’t wipe off most of the time when I’m just using it to clean the leaves. ❤❤❤
Hi fern! I wanted to thank you for all your videos. Your videos help me destress from life and just focus on working on all my plants while you work on yours! ❤
i actually got my castile soap yesterday to make this after you mentioned making a diy mix because spider mites might be present in the plant oasis. its just very odd to me that there is more alcohol than peroxide in this, i drown my plants in peroxide when i go from soil to pon and it helps tremendously in preventing shock. Also with Nepentes, i have mine in a dish of distilled water that i keep filled at all times, mine is a thirsty boi... I was also told by the nursery i purchased from that carniverous plants do not need any type of fertilizer because they get their nutrients from the insects they absorb. Another thing i learned from another video (i dont remember from who to give credit, its been a minute) When your pitchers get crispy on the top, you can cut the crunchy part off the top and the plant will continue to collect bugs. I was also told that if you happen to dump the water in the pitchers you can just squirt some distilled water to cover the bottom so it doesnt dry out and gets a jump start on refilling. Take this info with a grain of salt, i have been doing this and mine is doing just ok D:
One thing that's never failed me for spidermites is using mite spot on treatment that you would use for rabbits, ferrets ect. You use like 6 drops per 100ml. I saw it in a plant group once and tried it and was amazed 😂 I now spray my plants every month or so, when I remember and It definitely stops them coming back. When I get lazy or don't spray for a couple of months the spidermites pop up here and there, but it literally doesnt bother me now as I can easily get rid 🌿 Love all your videos and vlogs Fern!! Thanks always 😊
Your hair looks amazing. I love how the waves frame your face! Your bangs suit you so well, too! Also, I enjoyed this video so much! The troubleshooting, tips, and insight on how you think of solutions with your plants is much appreciated!
You can mix those Castile soaps with water in a soap pump and use them as a gentle hand and body soap….also a gentle shampoo, but don’t get in your eyes.
Also trying the pest treatment you are doing for the first time as I'm so over spider mites and also have such a large collection. Hoping and praying it works x
I would love a hoya care video! Also, have you thought about doing a "living wall" or trellis/lattice wall where your cabinet used to be? That could be cute with some of your begonia "climbing" and others too. Just a thought. I finally got a Fannie Moser recently after drooling over yours and I'm in love!
Ohh, that's exciting Wilderly is opening a location near you. I've been to the shop in Edmonton. Could have spent all day there. There's so much to see. It's amazing! 💚
Thank you for the great video.I have 2 nepenthes in ambient conditions and they thrive. I cut off the pitchers that are drying at the top. They are done. New ones come sooner when I do and the plant looks a lot better. I have one in the carnivorous soil mix and one in my regular arid mix, both are doing great. I think you would've been fine using it.
Howdy! Really enjoy your videos. I use that same diy pest spray. And you look soooooo cute when you wear your glasses, reminds me of a cool librarian. 💞
I love the electric sprayer too, got the same one. So glad you added the Begonia repot at the end, "gothic sister", love it! 🖤 and a definate Yes to the Hoya video, pls and ty ❤😂
I am curious to see your updates down the line on how the DIY mix will work. Lately I have switched the following method. I very generously spray any plant with annoying pests with 70% alcohol. I leave it with it for a few seconds to max a couple of minutes. Then I hose them down in the shower and that's it. I feel it works because alcohol kills anything on contact and showering them removes it so it doesn't damage the leaves. I have used beneficials before but tbh I don't like how they look hanging on the plants and it feels like a shame sign on them 😂 Plus I do like to shower my plants to clean them every couple of weeks and with beneficials you have to wait for so long before you can clean them. The DIY mix you mentioned last time that contains alcohol as well so I feel it's promising 🙂
In the PNW climate you can expect to get powdery mildew on outdoor plants like cucurbits , especially when the rain comes. Preventatively treating squash, melons, etc will help. I’ve never used neem as an anti fungal but it works on chewing insects for sure
With my two cane begonias, I have two bamboo canes in each pot and I tied the two stake to each other so that they balance each other out. Now I need to chop them back because they are trying to outgrow the stakes! lol
I like using neem oil to kill pests but recently I’ve been adding a systemic to the top soil of my plants and using this has removed any concerns of pests coming back! The brand I use is called Bonide, the active ingredient is Imidacloprid. It protects from damage from a number of pests and continues to protect your plants for up to eight weeks. Basically what happens is the plant takes up the chemical and when the pest goes to eat the plant it either prevents them from doing so or kills them when they injest it!! Hope this helps!!
I keep my nepenthes in small glass containers . I use sphagnum moss and fill with rain, dehumidifier water. That’s it. No nutrients, that’s what the bugs do.
I used a fluffy makeup brush, dawn soap with a splash of alcohol in a spray bottle and filled it with water then sprayed my Alocasia with crazy spider mites. I used the fluffy brush to lightly scrub the plant in all its crevices and I’ve never had a spider mite issue since - it might be more effective than constantly having to spray plants with what you’re using, it’s worth a try! After I scrubbed the plant I let it sit for 5 mins before showering the soap off! 🪴💓
Hey Fern! Consider growing your carnivorous plants in a closed container. They don’t mind sitting in distilled water and I can go like a month without watering mine in the particularly deep closed containers I grow my pings in. I fill the container up until the water is like… two inches below where the plant is. I have a little crocheted vase cover (but you can use a sock) to keep the algae at bay.
Hey what's up Fern love your bangs They look incredible I got good news for and I just found out today that I'm moving into my new house next Tuesday I'm so excited👍💯😂👋🙏😇
Yay for Begonia chores! Did you keep the mother plant of your thurstonii? I have some crazy looking Begonia I'm so intimidated to do anything with. Lol I'd love to see more Begonia videos! 🥰
Oof🫣🤭i totally left too much sphagnum on my new kalimantan, caudata silver and nicholsoniae new guinea ghost and had to snip at the base too… like not even a full week later🙃oh dear😋 ..the kalimantan is the only one thats taking forever to re-root! Im sure itll be just fine🪴 & ma’am your begonias are beautiful!!!! 😍
If someone is claiming they are “plant food”, it's likely that they cannot legally call it a fertilizer. All fertilizer will have an N-P-K because it's required by law because plants definitely need it to survive.
Fern, I just watched your repotting of your begonia thurstoni!! I ordered a beautiful specimen from Steve’s leaves here in the United States in Texas. I hope I can put a picture up because it’s a beautiful plant for the price.
I love using superthrive amongst other things like dyna gro and natures safe granual fertilizer. For pest prevention I use a few things like neem oil, d e powder, or I mix a soapy spray. It all depends what im trying to control. I dont use systemics
I just use neem oil and lemon dish soup mix with water as a preventative on my plants once every month. I find winter months for some reason get more fungus gnats and pests the most for some reason. Maybe less airflow and also central heating on maybe and windows closed cause of the cold weather. Which i dread every year.
Hey fern, super cool video. I was watching it while doing my own plant chores, so relaxing!! 🤩 I have a question. I was wondering if you're still using trofolia moss poles bc I haven't really seen them in your videos lately. Are you still convinced of them? 🌱🌺🌿
Ok so I will also put my chicken farm back into my cabinet because mine also looks like it belongs in the compost 😂 Dr Bonners soap is the best. I use the rose soap for hand washable and to clean my bathroom. Healthy planet sells smaller bottles (online too) and I believe they’re $15.99 for this month… I will always try a more Natural pesticide but I do have safers endall for emergencies 😂 And I must have that HOYA Tshirt 🎉and My next wish list plant is begonia sarawak
Fern! Great name! I LOVE the vibe and tone of your videos and just LOVE doing plant work while I watch your vids! (Btw, the pizza conversation part, etc. are fun to leave in because it gives continuity!!!) I have also been using the Liqui-Dirt guy's recipe for a couple of weeks now! I honestly found all the spider mites and other smaller bugs LITERALLY CRYSTALIZED under a microscope (lol yay). However, I JUST did a soil soak of this last night on some soil because I've been battling the fungus gnats, too!! Well, today I came home from work and there is a FESTIVAL OF GNATS happening in this container that I seriously SOAKED with this solution last night.... I do agree it smells great and I'll definitely be cleaning other things with the mix. I just watched the part where you found gnats in the nepenthes water -- I keep Ping, Spatulata Sundew, and Cape Sundew and I'm thinking that the Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis) or "Mosquito Dunks, Mosquito Bits, or Mozzie Bits" might work for them -- I think also doing the sand layer on top of the soil for other types of plants helps the fungus gnats, too. Seriously
hi, fern! as a fellow lover of super thrive, here's a quick tip: when you open new bottle, poke a hole in the seal. that way you can simply squeeze however many drops needed and not have to mess with a dropper. 😊
omg. this is life changing 😂 THANK YOU 🫶 I’ll def do that for the next one
My hubby did this for me, and I don't think I'd ever think of that.
Just when I thought I’ve self-taught every little planty hack thank youuuuu
This is a fantastic tip! Thank you 😂
Genius idea. Thank your husband.
So many videos lately WE ARE BLESSED
Thank you for watching them 🥹🥹🥰
Please take us with you to the new Plant shop!
BIG YES to a hoya chores video!!!!!
Dr. Bronners is the best!! We use it for shower soap, hand soap, dish soap, and plant soap
Starting to think this is why my mom's pancakes always come out so badly. 😂

Hi fern! I wanted to thank you for all your videos. Your videos help me destress from life and just focus on working on all my plants while you work on yours! ❤
Thanks for all your video uploads I had eye surgery and it’s so comforting to watch another planty video from you Fern!

YAY NEW FERN VIDEO 🫶🏻
Yes!! Thank you for making my day 🫰🏽💚🪴
My pleasure 😇
Hey Hey Fern! So thankful there's a new video! I'm gonna get comfy & enjoy!
Hope you enjoy! Thanks for watching 😊
Your hair looks great and those glasses are adorable on you. Nice hanging out with you while you do plant chores.
Your hair looks amazing. I love how the waves frame your face! Your bangs suit you so well, too! Also, I enjoyed this video so much! The troubleshooting, tips, and insight on how you think of solutions with your plants is much appreciated!
I have so neglected my begonias! I am going to take better care of them now! TY Fern!
Another great video. Thank you!
The begonia on the trellis is really beautiful. The leaves fall perfectly to cover the trellis. It has plenty of room to grow and get taller
Even before that person made that video, I’ve been using this mixture (not the same measurements). It’s 100% an amazing pest treatment and prevention
nepenthes are so easy to grow in normal humidity for me! I repotted some a couple months ago and its crazy how much they exploded in growth after
Yesssss, that nepenthes is still so pretty 🤩
HOYA chores and watering day!! YAY, YAY. YAY. ❤😊

If Kat Von D was a plant, she would be a fannie moser! What a great video fern, really enjoyed this one 🥰😘
such cosy vibes ahhhh ☺️
Yay enjoy!! 😊🌿

Yesssss, i'm in Edmonton and I have shopped at Wilderly often! They have some cuuuutie plants! Hope you find some gems
Omg the whole time you were repotting those pitcher plants I was thinking please cut those crispy pitchers off!!! 😂
You and Shane with the honey’s and asking each other if you should go get pizza is giving me all the feels 💕
Hoya chore video definitely!😊
Hair tips or care tips. Your hair is always spot on
I think you could just use plain Castile soap and then add the essential oils - that would cost a bit less I think. Hey from Vancouver btw 😊
🦇🖤🖤🖤🖤🫶🏼🦇🖤🎃Fernnnn!!! This video was soooo good🖤🖤🖤
& i would love love a hoya chores video💚🖤💚🖤💚yeassss
Thanks for sharing Fern!
Ohh, that's exciting Wilderly is opening a location near you. I've been to the shop in Edmonton. Could have spent all day there. There's so much to see. It's amazing! 💚
Love the double trick outro!
I find when I need to remove from pon or perlite or even spag, its easiest to flood w water, as the fluidity helps in extrication 😊
I too have some begonias that need repotting 😀🇨🇦
Hey Fern nice to see you again. Looking forward to this video.
Thank you for the great video.I have 2 nepenthes in ambient conditions and they thrive. I cut off the pitchers that are drying at the top. They are done. Hi Fern. Kelp stimulates root growth and fruiting/flowering. Enjoy!
new video letssss goooo 🌱💚
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Have a great week!!! See you in your next video!!!!
Yes you Hoya chores. yes!!
Yippie for a new Fern planty video!! I always *need* more hoya after watching your videos, lol! Also,.. math is the WORST 😂
🤭I totally thought you were about to shout me out, saying “I learned this from transplanting….”
More Hoya content please! Would also love the plant watering video 💕✨
The water in the pitchers is actually like stomach acid. The bugs fall in and that's how they digest their food.
I make the same spray with the same soap. I love the smell and also use it for pet messes and other cleaning.

I hear ya about fractions… that segment was awesome 😹
My favorite days are ferns posting days
Love your videos!
Thank you so much 🥰🌿
I cant believe I live in alberta and have never heard of this store!
Can you do a getting ready for winter/winter care routine? Do you change anything?
I just got a wonderful. It’s the new variegated one it’s cute silver and stunning
lol. The double speed makes me laugh while you two figure out fractions.

Hey what's up Fern love your bangs They look incredible I got good news for and I just found out today that I'm moving into my new house next Tuesday I'm so excited👍💯😂👋🙏😇
curious to see how using kelpy is gonna work out. sounds cool to me. always fun to try out new planty products :P
I work at a plant shop and we use Kelpy there! We also sell it in shop :)
Hey Fern I love your vids! Also I really like your tattoos!🥰
Thank you!! 😁
Take us along when you go to wilderly. It would be fun to see that.
Fern, I keep my pitcher plant in a self watering pot. It’s the only reason it is still alive.

If someone is claiming they are “plant food”, it's likely that they cannot legally call it a fertilizer. All fertilizer will have an N-P-K because it's required by law because plants definitely need it to survive.
Would love Hoya tour!
Haha, I’m literally making a matcha at the moment you talk about yours 😂.
Hey Fern, just wanted to let you know that I bought my Castile soap at Winners (in NL) for $13.00! $30 each is crazy expensive!
Hoya video…. Yes Yes Yes! 😊
Ok so I will also put my chicken farm back into my cabinet because mine also looks like it belongs in the compost 😂 Dr Bonners soap is the best. I use the rose soap for hand washable and to clean my bathroom. Healthy planet sells smaller bottles (online too) and I believe they’re $15.99 for this month… I will always try a more
Natural pesticide but I do have safers endall for emergencies 😂 And I must have that HOYA Tshirt 🎉and My next wish list plant is begonia sarawak
Fern! Great name! I LOVE the vibe and tone of your videos and just LOVE doing plant work while I watch your vids! I get the Castile soap at Walmart in the US. They also have a smaller bottle
