Littering is completely unacceptable especially in our national parks. It should be an immediate 3 year national park ban (all national parks) and a $2500 fine.
I agree, the issue is actually policing it. You know how many rangers you’d need to actually catch and managing every person dropping a piece of litter.
I used to live in Banff and always enjoyed going to Johnston Canyon on my day off but around 2007 more tourists arrived and the place got more crowded as time when on to the point that the parking lot was full earlier and earlier and the road leading to the Canyon was clogged. Downtown Banff in the summer is a mess with traffic and since I moved to Calgary in 2009, I have been going to Banff less and less. I avoid the townsite totally now.
Yep, although I don’t live in Alberta, I have been visiting Banff for 20 years, and I am seeing the same trend, it’s now to the point that I try to skip Banff town all together and stay in field or golden but I fear places like Yoho will soon be over exploited unless there are some more policy changes in place .
As an Albertan I used to vacation there all the time. Now it's just too crowded especially without the much needed rail connections... Lake Louise, Banff and Canmore should all build or rebuild in LL's case their tram systems that loop to massive CP Rail stations in each of those communities like has been talked about for decades... And ban cars and trucks as much as possible starting with RV's. They really don't have a place in these regions if you ask me especially in the most crowded spots. It's a nightmare of epic proportions.
Well said! Agree with most of what you say, only thing I would say is, it would difficult to bans vehicles all together. I would def ban RVs and severely limit the number of cars and trucks entering in park. But other than that I agree esp With the rail connections!
