When I was on this ship in October of 1972 it was sailing as an ocean liner on a regular route between Montreal and Leningrad. We travelled with an automobile which was hoisted by crane and was transported on a deck up by the lifeboat Davits towards the stern.
I got to sail on this ship in 1972 from Bremerhaven, Germany to St. Petersburg, Russia when I was a kid. I got stuck in the elevator for several hours. It was very memorable.
Well done Jamie.... very nice job, and great details about all 5 ships. I was always confounded by the differences, and one couldn't always see the names, but your research cleared it up.. They all had some decent cruise lives in the 90's and early 2000's, and it is a shame that a couple more of them weren't rebuilt as Marco Polo was. I sailed on her in 2007, it was a fascinating voyage from Barcelona through the Med to Piraeus. We hit some rough seas and she was a very steady seaboat.. I was devastated when she was withdrawn and scrapped.. She was truly a classic, like Saga Ruby. The photos from Alang, (I think on Peter Knego's midship Century website, really shows how sturdy a ship she was). Im going to look at some of my old BSC brochures and see if there are differences in deck plans... Keep the hits coming.. .
sir i want to personally thank you so much for being so supportive of the videos and the channel. Your comments mean so much to me. Once again, I’m extremely glad that you enjoyed this video, and I agree it’s truly tragic that she’s no longer with us, even though she survived so much
@ Your warm message gives me hope in humanity and the internet. With so much false info and click baiting, I’m warned by the connection we have made here !!🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you so much, Jamie, for this incredible video and for sharing the story of this amazing ship.
