Good to hear that you approve of them, I'm considering splashing out on one for my 2a - I've just got it running again after it's spent the last 8 years parked up in a field waiting for some attention. The shaft on the lucas starter is badly pitted, drive cog sticking etc, etc!
No the cables are custom made for this car, the owner has made the wiring loom from scratch to suit his application. To be honest its taken about five years for it to chafe through.

Is it a standard Lucas starter motor?
No on this one it's the High Torque unit from Powerlite. I recommend these, I have one fitted to a V8 too.

Is the chaffing due to factory cable routing or later modifications?
No the cables are custom made for this car, the owner has made the wiring loom from scratch to suit his application. To be honest its taken about five years for it to chafe through.
