Excellent. I'm going to do this for my 09 RK classic. It only has 26k miles. I was down for several years b/c I had a stroke. I'm going to replace the stock front-end lowers with chrome, replace the front wheel to a 21 inch wheel, change the cans to a chrome set that I think I bought on Amazon, and change the suspension from stock to Legends. Now all this is foreign to me but I've got the time to slowly learn and do myself. Your video will really help. I just subscribed to your channel to show support. Have a great Christmas. 🤠👍🏽 12/23/24
That's rough! Glad to hear that you are going to back on two wheels soon. I'll be rebuilding the forks on Christians bike this winter and will show all the steps and tricks I forgot to get in the first video. Thanks for subscribing and Merry Christmas!
Nice video! My 1997 Electra Glide FLHTIP, police bike is now leaking some fork oil on the side my tire. You make it look simple to do! But going to have it done by a guy who repairs Harley's. I did have fork oil changed when I bought bike two years ago, but must be the seals now.
It's not too bad, does help to have the special tools that's for sure. I don't think you could get me to go into one now without replacing the bushings. They aren't expensive and it sure beats tearing up and having to buy a fork leg.
I just got my hands on an 04 road king police. Only 18k miles on it but the suspensions is very tired plus it’s leaking on the clutch side. Already changed out the rear air shocks with a set of Progressive 412 13 inch heavy duty shocks. This just made changing the front look easy. Haven’t done it on a road king yet. But I will be saving this as a reference. Thanks.
I wonder if the fork cans would slide down so I can inspect a seal? 1997 Road King. It may be steering bearing grease or a seal, but I want to have a look. I’ve seen leaky forks and the oil is usually pretty dark, and this oil is clear. I know these forks have never been apart, bike has 14,000 miles.
With the nacelle off you can access the bolts for the cans. Should be able to slide it down to the fender mount. I've never done it, but it seems like it should work. While 14,000 isn't a ton of miles - it is 27 years old, so I would probably have a rebuild kit on hand. While a guy can just do the seal if that's leaking, not much more to replace the wear parts. Only real pain is getting the cap back on, and the lock tabs on the fender bolts.
@@repairsupgradesandadventures i’m going to pull it apart and have a look. Thanks for the tips. However, after good ride last weekend, the fork tube remains free of any oil. Probably still worth a look.
I used a kit from that river website. It had extra bits in it that I didn't need but if I was doing a dyna I would have. What it didn't have was the screw and washer that comes in the Harley kit. But it did have the thick rubber washers for under the fork caps that the Harley kit doesn't. It fit and seems to work great. I plan on going back into it next year to see how well the bushing are wearing. Here is a link to the kit I used - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CKDX9QYY/
I guess I just didn't think of it. The hardest part for me was getting the caps back on the forks. If a video of removing the nacelle would be helpful just let me know and I'll put one together. Thanks for watching!
In my drinking days I would have considered that a 5-6 beer job! Well done!
5-6 leads to 10-12 so I'm better off if I just don't start. I get more done that way. Thanks for watching!
yup I was refefering to the vise too

Ty for the video, way to involved to do myself!!!
loving the "Quiksilver" oil, nice!!!!! very good oil. i run the semi-sythetic.
Thanks! I've got an even more involved fork rebuild video coming up. I'm going to do my buddy's 2004 Ultra Classic. The oil should be extra gross.
Nice job! What type/size black socket did you use to open/close the cap that holds the spring inside?
It's a 35mm fork socket. Here is the one I used a.co/d/j6QEXSG
The other hand socket is this one a.co/d/8vDKLZI.

I want to buy aftermarket fork seal kit
But i don't know what is the good one...

Very nice!

@@repairsupgradesandadventures I’ll be alright, thanks. They make a tool for getting the cap to help get them back on.

You've seen the black fork oil before?
