Much of the curiosity may be developing on a sort of subconscious level, as European heritage overall, in recent years, has been the target of clear psychological campaigns to cloud awareness of heritage and history. Of course, many are very aware of this, and we often witness anyone expressing "too much" interest or enthusiasm for their European roots being harshly mischaracterized from numerous directions.
We also see a curious phenomenon where certain parties will venomously deny all of this, claiming fear, fragility, and paranoia as reasons for Europeans to perceive such things. These odd denials don't stop many perceptive folks from noticing the undeniable trends they're seeing all around them on a daily basis though. European tradition and historical reverence is gradually eroding, and regardless of cause or reason, whether exacerbated deliberately or unintentionally, many can sense this unfortunate loss and rightfully fear total estrangement from their roots. On a very deep level, even the less perceptive among us can sense the serious tragedy in abandoning heritage.

Vikings here in England are taught to you from a young age. I understand you're Danish and they came from your land. But their mentality and influence are found more in us than you. Warlike, seafarering, trader and explorers. These are Viking and British attributes. Not found in Danish attributes since the best and toughest Vikings left your shores and settled here and in Normandy, who also invaded these islands and made us what we became.
I’ve watched an hour of it, but I need to sleep, this doc is too good to miss, that I don’t fancy watching it through my eyelids 😅

Not so much as exchanges i dont think, being they was so much alike, they was neighbours after all?, in regards to the British isles anyhow, in some cases they evem fought their own relatives for land, meaning connections had been made previously through out the years...

I suppose it's to be expected the Christian version of Nordic pagans being brutes and aggressors starting it all with the Lindisfarne raid 793 is portrayed. Personally I believe the significance of Charlemagnes conquest and forced Christianization of Saxony and Frisia 770s - 800s is paramount to later events. As mentioned ties were close between Frisia and Scandinavia and Pagan expansion of fortifications (Dannevirke) and construction of ring-fortresses (Fyrkat, Aggersborg, Trelleborg ao.) in the immidiate aftermath of Charlemagnes expansion certainly suggest so. Arguably the whole period until pagan conversion late 900s can be viewed an ideological war. Conversion was a way for the Danish king Harald Bluetooth to secure his sovereignty after a defeat 980s to the holy Roman empire at their shared border in Anglia/ Northern Germany. His people was forced to convert and apparently it wasn't an easy feat as Haralds looting and destruction of previous rulers pagan grave sites all over the territory he controlled indicates (Denmark, Southern Norway and Southern Sweden). Essentially he tried to erase pagan history to maintain control and power. Christian and Pagan beliefs were intertwinned for quite some time until Christianity got a strong hold. Evident on runestones and grave markers from the period (Runestone finds in foundations of the first stone churches 1000s - 1100s shows they were no longer wanted and removed/reused). When Haralds grandson Cnut/Canute became King of England 1016 and Norway 1018 the viking era was de facto over. 1066 and the battle of Hastings being the end is a later adoptation (PR shinning a positive light on the present dynasty).
Some unsubstantiated liberties describing events is taken. Most profound at 1:37:30 claiming Vikings (Rollo 911) intended becoming an integral part of the Frankish society. Being opportunists it seems more likely they were given an offer they couldn't resist as is commonly perceived.
In the dramatized parts Godfred and Cnut is filmed living in stone castles - In their time all structures were still wooden.
Entertaining documentary none the less.

Rollo did not have so much lands, just on the coasts. The Duchy of Normandy has progressively developped after with his descendants who mixed with the Gallo-Frankish World.

I really enjoyed this. I love the Vikings since I have some of their DNA like lots of other people. It makes it feel like I'm learning family history. That's got to be why I can't get enough education about the Vikings. The info about how the status of how women's place in society changed with Christianity was mind blowing. There truly is an element of male chauvinism in the concepts of the Christian church that Jesus never intended. Taught me alot about the changing role of women, and the thought that they regained power through well placed marriages and alliances was good to learn. Thank you so much.

As scandinavian i dont believe they were raiders. But more traders or trying to be. But if you meet a unknown tribe who fight with other local tribes, then you dont know what will meet you when arrive. It must be the vikings attitude to be prepared into the unknown.
First and foremost, this is a high quality documentary with several experts adding to the story telling. And what is fascinating is that this story only focuses on the vikings excursions south and westwards, but completely leaves out the extensive trade and dynastic relations throughout the Baltics, Poland, Belarus, Russia and Ukraine; all the way down to Miklagard (Constantinople/Istanbul). Just the tangent about the Novgorod vikings who under Rurik gained control of Kyiv and started the Kyivan Rus dynasty which still is a cause for contention between Russia and Ukraine, as Russia appropriated the heritage of Rurik and claim it as theirs, which was made possible by Kyiv being entirely sacked by the Mongols.

All of my ancestors I can find came from Norse countries or Viking raided countries. Denmark, Norway, Sweden, obviously, and then Yorkshire and even my German ancestors came from Schleswig Holstein which was a part of Denmark. A little bit of the British isles, I believe from the orkneys.

Check out Dr. Jackson Crawford's videos on the topic. They're all descended from proto Germanic, and I'm fairly certain he's got a recent video talking about when the different languages split and their degree of mutual intelligibility
the Vikings spoke old Norse, it's very close to modern day Icelandic all the Germanic tribes spoke old versions of Germanic languages old Norse was one of them, when the Anglo (Danes and Germans) and the Saxons (Dutch and Germans) came to England after a while old English became the language it had old Norse and ancient Dutch origins mixed with what was spoken by Celtic ect.

There is other documentaries about that sort of, its called 'The last pagans of Europe'.... It even mentions the spread into Latvia and Lithuania...
That's going to be difficult, as they didn't dominate EUROPE, parts of it, but get your facts right if your going to write about History! No short measures please!

Yeah the costumes are pretty horrendous. If you've watched the Welsh Viking's video on viking costumes in cinema you can at least angrily understand where it comes from: a slow evolution of Victorian opera costume, and then through film since about the 50's

Historical records show that European people were not pyramid builders from Egypt. Just tribal pagans or Vikings. Only about an hour in but it's pretty interesting. Not been a mention about where they got their information from...??? My guess is; trade first, exchanges of goofs, ideas, rumours and a good old chinwag about things your trading mates know over some good food n booze! Trade isn't only about goods, it's about ideas, knowledge, legends, tall tales etc... more than enough reasons to come back...
