Never seen Meikyo performed with uchi uke performed on the second turn and age uke on the third turn? I learned it ( and have only ever seen it) with gedan barai on both the open sequence and second turn, then uchi uke on the third turn?
You are basically right, this is the classic version and also the most common. But there is also this version. I think it makes more didactic sense, which is why I have adopted it.
Tolles Lehrvideo.
Masterful execution. As I have gotten older I have come to appreciate this kata all the more. It's simple but very nuanced all at the same time. It truly is meditation in motion.
@@fioretartaglia Sensei, I'm a yellow belt in shotokan karate, soon to be red, I'm looking for a kata outside of the "heians" so I can practice by myself, outside of dojo, for myself. So I'll humbly ask you - I've seen versions of this kata with the jump being "1-2", in your case I believe you landed at the same time. I'm absolutely not judging, who am I to do such a thing, I'd only like to understand, you also replied to a comment about the kiai: "I prefer the version with one kiai, because it is the classic version as described in Nakayama's book (executed by Sensei Asai)" - so back to the jumping question, what's the "classic version" about this matter? Is there a consensus? I'm from Brazil, and my school is ISKF, just thought I'd add that. By the way, considering what I said about learning an advanced kata, do you think it's ok? Would this kata be a recommendation from you to a person like me? I saw the "double block" and it reminded me of heian nidan, so that caught my interest too. If you have another recommendation please do let me know! Thank you, sensei, you're really awesome!!
This varies from karate association to karate association. Sometimes it also depends on the region. Personally, I prefer the version with one kiai, because it is the classic version as described in Nakayama's book (executed by Sensei Asai). Does this answer help you?
Coisas............
1:25 Strong version! Check out the description and stay in Zanshin :)
His hips and upper body twisting is great, especially in slow versions. One can understand whta they should do watching these videos.
I'm glad, thanks for your feedback.
